How does this unit compare to the thermochef?

A friend lent us hers and I really liked it. However she said if she could afford it she would have got a thermomix!

    Thanks for me.

  • Generally the first 2 things to go from the Thermomix alternatives is the built in scale and reverse function. The scale is handy when you are just following a TM recipe, as you just measure straight into the bowl as you go. The reverse is probably not going to be missed all that much. I'm guessing the blade guard mentioned in this unit is an alternative to reverse.

Haven't used this unit, but can compare a Thermomix and Bellini. The TM build quality is top notch, as you would want for the cost. Is it worth the ~$2000, I don't know. About half that is really the most I think it is worth, given the cost of the alternatives. The Bellini is missing the above mentioned features, and generally is ok but does seem to struggle when steaming foods, taking a lot longer than the Thermomix.

I guess something like this is a good entry point to see if you like cooking with this type of appliance. My thoughts are that you either start at this end of market or go all in for the Thermomix. I don't think spending the extra for the middle of the road units like the Thermochef is worth the money. This one is definitely priced well with the discount.

Comparison chart of some of the models can be found here: http://cheatingwithbellini.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/thermoco…

  • Price with the discount looks good. I am taking up the offer!
