if this was the LTE version Id snap it up now.

iPad mini would go to gumtree.
Still a very very good price . I have the G2 and if the Gpad is anything like its a great device

    • -3

So you'd sell your iPad mini (assuming 1st Gen 16GB WiFi) on Gumtree for say, $200-$250? And then get offers for $50. Yay Gumtree :\

      • 1st gen 64Gb LTE

It would easily cover the cost of the GPad.

The only reason im not snapping it up is , 3G/LTE is a must for me in a tablet.

        • Yeah that's fair enough, I was more saying that Gumtree can be real annoying when selling.

  • Free pick up is awesome!

  • Ips display. I like that

Great price. I've got one of these and love it. The screen is beautiful but can stutter occasionally though this should be fixed with kit kat update - due in the next few months.

    • +1

Some people are getting the android 4.4 (kit kat) update through the LG Mobile Support Tool as mentioned on XDA. Maybe you could give that a try.

If you enable Developer Options and change the animation scals to 0.5x it makes it feel alot more smoother.

      • I couldn't find Developer Options in settings anywhere on mine. I do have it on my Galaxy Note but not the G Pad. Where do I find it?

        • Try this. Go to settings, about tablet, press build number 7 times.

        • +1

Thanks for that. Of course, why didn't I see that….

  • +3

I wish we had a Bing Lee in Melbourne.

  • Got one, awesome device, being running on KitKat and it's pretty good for the price you pay for. Resolution is 1920x1200 with GPS and GLONASS for the wifi model, unlike the iPad mini wifi, which doesn't have any.

    • Location apps still work when you have wifi or cellular coverage on an ipad mini. You can't use offline navigation, but that is the only limitation. Iphones send GPS coordinates to the ipad if you are using it as a network connection.

      • Its like telling somebody not to get a LTE tablet, because your phone can tether a internet connection to the tablet.

GPS onboard = do not need 2 devices to power 1 function.

        • Yeah but buying a none LTE tablet is smart if your phone has internet. Why pay the ongoing monthly costs on top of your phone bill? Suits me perfectly.

        • I think Iplau's main point was that it's good to have GPS on a tablet as Not to need to tether a phone when out & about in order to get navigation ( Location apps on wi-fi ) to work. He was more making the LTE comment in order to compare a similar analogy, ( not needing two devices to execute one task ). Whether that suits you or not is another matter, each to their own. That's the way I read it anyway.

  • Can you flash this with Google play edition?

This might make a good PDF reader upgrade over my original first gen ipad.

    • +1

Apparently not, however there are plenty of roms available

  • Better than the Galaxy Tab?

    • +4

      yes.

      • So specs wise its better than the other one

        Samsung - GT-N5110ZWAXSA - Galaxy Note 8.0

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139036

Response was overwhelming for that as its under $200 after cashback.

But without the pen, although has better screen higher res 1920 x 1200 IPS vs 1024 x 600 TFT

        • +1

Depends if the Pen is important.. If you are going to take notes in Work/School/Home scenarios, then get the Note. On-screen keyboards really still are not the best medium to take notes with (even with Swype or equivalent).

        • More like 1280 x 800 TFT display.

I picked up one 5 days ago from their store in Burwood, without even bargaining for a cheaper price it was sold to me for $285.00. I did pay in Cash. Very friendly and helpful staff.

    • +1

      i bargained and paid 280.

      • +1

Would you mind emailing me the invoice I can price match at jb? Thanks heaps!

  • I was looking at this LG with LTE or even just 3G, but it is never available. I ended up with 8.4 inch Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4, it cost a bit more, but a lot better. 2560*1600 resolution, Snapdragon 800 and LTE…I am also using it as a "Phone" too….I dont understand why LG did not make this tab with phone function…I would have got one and never looked at the Samsung.

    • +4

Wow, how practical is it to use as a phone? Do you always have a bluetooth headset on? Or are there occasions where you have placed the whole 8.4 inches against ur head?

      • +4

It is reasonably practical for me, it connects to the bluetooth in my car automatically. I shamelessly holding this 8.4 to talk occasionally, but I dont have any problem with that.

    • +2

How much is it by your definition a bit more? I am interested too

      • I paid $514 (inc. fedex express shipment) for a ebay seller based in Singapore, I know $200 is fair a bit, but I have the phone function, higher resolution, faster cpu, and most importantly existence! People paying $700 or even $800 for a tiny iPhone these days….

        • But $200 that is another galaxy note 8.0

        • +1

and ~$500 is a Surface Pro 1. I think it all comes down the needs of the user to define what is worth the money.

        • Not today, deal over now ( unfortunately).

    • Are you sure you have the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, no listed phone function as you mentioned. Also this LG tab has a "bridging" phone function where you can sync your phone and this tablet (including SMS).

      • +1

Yes, I am sure, I am using Tab Pro everyday as a primary phone. Look for the Galaxy Tab Pro T325, it is the same tablet with LTE, T321 is 3G only, T320 is Wifi only.

        • You want a huge phone why don't just get the xperia ultra for $399?

        • +1

You know the Ultra is not as big as the Tab Pro? 6.4 vs 8.4, and I have the Tab Pro to replace my Xperia Z Ultra…

  • In another related thread some people said they got it for $280 from Bing Lee. I told that to a sales guy at JB Hifi who matched it (even though the previous day a different sales guy told me the absolute best he could do was $310).

    • +1

You probably could haggle when you get into the store. Most likely clearance stock

      • I was in store on both occasions

    • +1

Yeah you have to love sales guys, everytime you try to haggle they'll say they are doing it for below cost. lol

  • I have one. I recommend it to everyone. Best tablet I've ever owned, and I've had 5 or so.

  • Beware that the Samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4 will be here very soon, with better screen and faster. Online sellers are selling it for about $380 with shipping.

    • My understanding was that the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 won't be released in Australia. This is based on this Ausdroid article together with it being missing from Samsung's website. If there is contrary information suggesting it will ultimately be released, it would be great to know the source.

  • So which is better value for money? This or the nexus 7 or galaxy tab?

    • +2

Hm, depends if you need the screen size. Nexus 7 and LG G Pad have the same screen resolutions. Battery life is all generally pretty similar I'd imagine (~7-8 hours). If you can get the Nexus 7 (2013) at $199 definitely go for it, otherwise try out the LG in store and see if you like the software/size of it.

If you're talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 this hasn't been released yet in AUS. But is superior to the 2 tablets I mentioned above. It's likely to be priced ~$400 though.

Otherwise the Galaxy Tab 3 7" is a cheaper alternative to the two

    • +1

It depends what you want. This has same type of hardware as the nexus but in bigger package. The galaxy tab is the weakest spec wise, but comes at a significantly lower price.

      • +1

for me the biggest deciding factor would be what size suits you. I have both the G Pad and Nexus 7 and the Nexus 7 is alot smaller. I much prefer the 8.3inch G Pad. Would be best for you to try them both instore. I much prefer the G Pad.

        • Thank you to everybody for their helpful comments, i really appreacite it.

I would like to watch movies, play games & do some office related work on it if possible…so basically instead of a laptop if possible.

Does the LG G Pad have 3G/LTE or is it Wi-Fi only?

Screen size isnt too much of a big deal for me…but when i spend my money i like to do it once, do it right. I totally understand that newer/updated technology is always coming up but i cant wait forever to get something better unless its coming within a month or so.

So what would any of you recommend that is best value for money?

The Nexus 7 & LG G Pad are obviously better than the Samsung Galaxy 3 7"…the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is better than all 3 above tablets…how long is it till its AUS release does anybody know?

Out of the nexus 7 & LG G Pad…which is the better out of the two seeing as they both have the same screen resolutions?

Sorry for all the questions…just trying to get as much information as possible from more knowledgable people than me as I'm totally new to tablets.

          Thanks in advance.

        • +1

For me the LG is quite a bit bigger. And having already owned a 5 inch phone, a 8 inch tablet makes more sense.
The tab pro 8.4 is available from all grey importers now, i guess its coming in weeks.

        • +1

Above all my advice is to try it in store, nothing like getting a feel for the devices themselves (bar the Tab Pro 8.4 obviously, for now). As much as you see on paper (specs, screen resolution, etc). Seeing and feeling it in person is the difference between night and day imo.

        • "Screen size isnt too much of a big deal for me…but when i spend my money i like to do it once, do it right."

I think that if/when you hold a 7"/8"+ tablets in your hand and actually use it you will notice the difference. Other than that, don't forget features such as expandable memory via micro/sd and or OTG make a difference to some, NFC chip, and maybe infrared port to others, besides the obvious software differences and potential updates/lack of.

this has now increased to $317
