great even for students, as i think apple is giving <10% student discounts now… 13inch pro is $1755 or so with student discount, whereas this is $1708

Yes… 10% does apply on older models -but there are very few in stock.

You cannot customize thru the Dick Smith website, it is in-store only. And no, the prices do not apply on custom built machines.
