This morning we pushed out a new user-submitted referral changes. This is an update to the previous attempt in 2012. Problem with the previous one is that it's difficult to add new stores that support referral benefits, and the feature ended up only supporting GreenManGaming and not being used much by our users here. What happened afterwards were wiki pages created for each online shop. Yes it's an interesting use of the wiki pages, but

  • Not a good idea to let any member to be able to edit everyone's code.
  • Free-form might not be the most ideal format, and hard to police everyone to edit in the same format.
  • The list is ordered rather than randomised.

What we have done now is having a single place for you to put in all your referral codes. Go to your Settings page and click on the referrals tab. You should be presented with a list of "stores" that we currently have referral support. For the comprehensive list of stores / products supported, please go to the referral wiki page.

New ones should be easily added as well if the method of referral is via a referral link (i.e. unique URL per referrer). Feel free to submit new ones in the comments. I need

  • The URL format for the referral link
  • Instructions to get the referral link
  • Benefit for the referrers and referees.

Another reminder that Affiliate Links and Referral Links are different and we do not allow affiliate links here on OzBargain.

Once a referral system has been set up for that domain, for every deal posted to that domain, a grey box will appear below the content and above the Share buttons containing a randomised referral link AND OP's referral link (if OP has submitted one for that domain and the deal has hit the front page vote minimum - updated 9/5/16). The benefits for the referrers and referees are also shown so people know what they (and you) are getting. For example this Amaysim offer I submitted. In this case including your own referral link and link to wiki becomes redundant.

Yes this is still in beta and needs improvement. Some potential issues / possible improvements:

  • Since you do not really need to put referral link in your content, you can submit deals with your link in the referral box without the deal being marked as "referral post". This might lead to abuse of people posting excessive deals from the stores offering referral. I shall look at ways to prevent it. I don't want to mark them as referral post at the moment because previously submitter can pick and choose whether to include his/her referral link. Now it's always included. 9/5/16 Update: Your deal must hit the front page vote minimum (currently 30) to show. This was previously 5, before being changed to the front page vote minimum.

  • Referral-code / coupon-code type referrals are not yet supported. For example Budget Direct, Rabobank, etc. We can potentially generate a popup containing the code when people click on "OP" or "random".

  • A good idea to let people pick and choose? For example some people might not want to use OP's referral link, not a random one either but from a list of friends.

So here it is. Give it a try guys! I will start removing some of the wiki pages later today. Meanwhile, please leave feedback in the comments.

      We've discussed it and I think it's probably OK to accept any site that has a referral system as long as it meets our criteria of adding into the system.

      Surveyz benefits referrers and referees. So OK to have in the system.
      Octopus Group only benefits the referrer so won't be adding it.

    Looks like Doordash referrals need to be flushed and users notified to update their code.

    They've changed the offer to now $20 for referrer, 30% for the referred up to $15 and my referral code in the app had suddenly changed without notification.
    Still the same https://drd.sh/CODEHERE but the code changed

    To verify, if you have a Doordash account compare your referral code to the one you had saved to ozbargain awhile back

    Just checked with someone I sent a referral a month ago and they said they didn't get the bonus on their acc using my code :(
    So depending on how many of the 2252 referral codes in the ozbargain bank are "old", we are looking at a great number of disappointed new customers

      One staff member has a link in the system from November which is now different. My referral link from January is the same. All links do seem to work but have now moved expiry from 12 months to 3 months which will expire and notify everyone who has a link before Feb 3 of this year and also going forward.

        Had to chase up a successful referral with DDash so their system might be currently stuffed. It was a completed pickup order (as it says in the App) and met all reqs.
        Still appear as pending five days later

    The Placie referral changes daily now (well has done so last 4 days in a row) so I would recommend making it so the referee has to message the referrer for their current link

    When trying to get an EASI referral, it seems there are a lot of outdated or broken links, example being the one below - goes to a 404 page.
    Since a 404 is not helping anyone (including the referrer), can these invalid ones be removed from the pool?
    I've had to click several times to find a valid referral.

      Had a look at EASI app and they are now offering a 6 character code which is a bit easier to manage. Have expired all codes and notified everyone in the system.

        Just tried my own code in a cart, and there doesn't seem to be a minimum spend. Had a $9.9 product that is now $0 before shipping is calculated.
        Took it all the way to payment page but didn't proceed.

    Could we put "Chope" into the referral system, it's the equivalent to "the fork" or "eat club" but for asian countries (including but not limited to hong kong, singapore, bali), I'm gonna go nuts with it for my trip to Phuket.

    you get "chope-dollars" when u book and than can use them at restruants (very similar to "the fork" Yums) 400 chope dollars = $10

    Globird energy appears to have changed their referral system to now allow users to share a link, once they've entered their account number and phone/or/email.
    Can the Ozbargain system be updated so we can enter the referral link?

      The issue is when new customers sign up they'll need to quote the email address or phone number of the referrer. See here.

        Hi neil,

        I had a look at the post you linked to and that's from 2019. I can confirm in the past, I had to enter the new customer's email or phone to be able to get Globird's system to send them a referral link. Globird updated their system, so I can now enter my own account details as a customer, to be given a unique referral link that lasts 5 months at a time which I can provide to others.

        When I go through a dummy signup step, Step 5 (Confirm) shows the product and offer detail as bonus_referralbonus and promo code: refer, so I can only assume that Globird's system can work with ozbargain's as originally intended.

        sirspiff is correct. Globird have changed the system to remove the need to quote email address & phone number of the referrer. Now the referral steps are:

        1) referrer visit this site: https://quote.globirdenergy.com.au/referral and enter their account number and phone (or email).
        2) After pressing the "SHOW LINK" button the next page provides the referrer with a link to copy [screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/xXj0Cxp]. There is no more need to put in referrer's personal details.

        Note: the referral links lasts 6 month so OzBargain expiry needs to reflect that. If you need more details the link for the T&Cs goes here: https://imgur.com/a/xXj0Cxp

    New amaysim user can only share referral via email now. The link is very long, which is different from the existing one in the system.

      You need to remove utm campaign, utm source, utm medium from the link. Only the c= is what you need, the rest are just for stats tracking. I've added a note in there to not include it.

      OK, both formats should be accepted now.

      The URL they give is without the https:// or www but when you put in the URL in the browser it forwards to www.

    Referrer earns 30% commission on all fees paid for the lifetime of the referral.

    To setup, one needs to go to Settings > Referral Program > Edit* [edit/create tag] > Copy
    *this step not required if have already created tag and no wish to edit it

    Anyone know if the date at the end of Revolut referrral matters or not? Revolut regularly emailed me to refer friends and when they do, the date affixed at the end of my referral link changes but the identifier does not - eg JUN1-22-AR
    As in, do we have to keep refreshing our refer link

    Revolut chat agent said the date in referral link needs to change when the there is a new 'campaign'/email every month …

        That's a shame, if you add it to the system you will be able to add up everyone who used it and claim it for marketing purposes and triple bottom line accounting. Ozbargain could add it to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:charity_donations

        Also with the greying population and the fact it's third leading disease burden in Australia means that it's quite likely that someone related to the ozbargain community will benefit.

        Thanks for adding. I tested the referral link and saw an invitation to claim the $10 off by entering an email address, so looks like it will work. Thanks.
        The referral link provided by APD includes the long string after the smile parameter, but I note that it is not wanted by OzBargain, nor did it appear to be needed for the test.
