They couldn't give that crap away to homeless.

    • +3

I think they are trying to off load stuff that the home less have rejected.

      • -4

I can just imagine the homeless designing these clothes and modelling them on their own catwalk, which is just the scummy alleyway they live in, surrounded by Rivers executives, looking suave in last seasons clothing range, delivering positive critique in bogan dialect to a rousing applause.

hmmm…. should we be allowing 8 yr olds to post?

        • Well, they let you post, so it would appear so.

        • +1

What the (profanity)? Do people like you actually exist?

        • Welcome to the 21st century, George!

  • +8

It's never really worth the effort with Rivers, too much dag to sort through.

  • +2

Awesome… if the website worked :( Seems as though they've taken 40% off their web server!

  • +3

Not one single size fit me. They either too big or too small. It's very uncomfortable to wear any of their clothing. No deal for me!

    • Buy one of each and average out?

Yet you are not alone I have found it hard to meet my size in acceptable wear.

Too many 'all of this stuff is sh*t' comments.

Find the right item and its a great bargain.

    Thanks OP.

So the female floor staff are almost topless?

    • +1

      Hur hur. Boobies are cool.

Don't just take my word for it, read this before place your order.

Tha Store is in Shepparton Victoria .My phone number is 042584*****36. Many thanks Lorraine Robertson. 2***9Fraser Street. Natha******lia. 3638

Lorraine R goes to Rivers in Shepparton and has issues spelling "Tha", she also gives out her address and mobile number in a review… Probably not the most credible source for a review.

I've bought some terrible stuff (polos that shrunk 2 sizes in the first wash) at Rivers and some fantastic stuff (comfortable shoes, hoodies).

Compare it to BigW and KMart, don't compare it to brand name stuff. Apples with apples, and the price of these apples is right.

    • +2

I too have bought some great stuff and some not-so-great stuff from Rivers. At one of their last sales, I asked the manager why things were so cheap and she told me that Rivers had just been bought out (by whoever owns Katies and Millers) and when the new owners looked in the Rivers warehouse they saw heaps and heaps of stuff that would be hard to shift. They just want to get rid of all old stock as they will start buying new (and different) items, not keeping so much on hand.

  • +1

Can somebody help me? I used to recall Rivers as a "upper middle to high class" type store (leather hats, country-type business shirts) which I would never bother stepping foot into, until they reinvented into a cheaper-than-Kmart model. Does my memory serve me correctly or was it always this cheap?

    • +1

i think you were confused with RM Williams.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure they repositioned themselves at some stage. Less stuff was coming from Ballarat and more from China. The buyers would be all local so go figure. I just don't get why they would pick the colours/patterns they do and expect them to have mass appeal here.

The former owner was a shocking serial pest who molested numerous female employees.

      https://www.google.com.au/#q=philip+goodman+harassment

He was far to focussed on molesting pussy than running a quality business.

Sold entire chain for 5 million. That speaks for itself. I just hope the creep lost his wife and his 2x $2+ million Toorak mansions.

    • +3

Yeah, Rivers used to be an 'RM Williams' type store selling high quality, tough, Australian Made products… not to everyones taste of course as the styling seemed to mainly consist of conservative 'country' and 'boating' attire but decent quality nevertheless. That was 10-15+ years ago and I'm not sure if they got got bought out or if there was a radical management change but it seemed like they went from that to a Chinese factory outlet store overnight! Going by other reports I've read here it seems as though whoever took over got into trouble a few years ago and now someone else has taken over and I guess this is when the well known TV campaigns started. Seems like a bit of a basket case but I have managed to pickup some decent stuff from them for insane prices but only 2nd-rate basics like cheap socks, shorts & shoes… never 'nice' stuff.

      • Thanks for that. So I wasn't mistaken…

  • Rivers is one of the few places I can find my shoe size(14) at decent prices.

Quality might not always be fantastic but a pair of shoes I bought nearly 2 years ago are still going strong.

  • Their stuff is quite poorly made. Can't imagine what the workers get paid.

"Make this trouser and we'll keep you alive"

    • +1

They had really well made products in the 90's. It's a shame they've dropped to this level.

      • Food stamps.

      • That's because people got fatter.

  • +1

Rivers make some of the ugliest clothing i have ever seen tbh

  • +2

Rivers quality is now crap; I still have and wear the excellent cotton shirts I bought from them 15 years ago. I still have a pair of boots that are now over ten years old. But in recent years I've given up on them- shoes that collapse or fall apart after a short while, button holes that are way too big for the buttons, stitching that isn't, shirts emblazoned with the most inane and purile images, awful colours, awful stripes. Shit, even K-Mart does better these days.

And while I am having a whinge, the "40% off" don't seem that different from the prices I saw in their store awhile back.

  • Hobo Depot would be a more appropriate name. Mis-pronounced by its bogan clientele.

  • +2

Some great deals on clearance stock if you sift through it.

    some kids shoes $1.80

    decent adult shoes $6

    padded letterman jackets $9

I also got a kids hoodie for 60 cents

Have a look in store if there is one close to you.

  • -1 for shoes that fall apart
-1 for the zippers that break

quality sucks at even 40% off
