  • australian bacon sucks. but bacon is bacon. + from me

    • Where to buy proper bacon?

      • +1

Boutique deli's/smallgoods shops. Farmers markets. Basically anywhere that isn't a major supermarket.

      • One place I tried is Pialligo Farm as they do traditional smoking and the bacon comes out like it sued to do when I was a kid, it's a special occasion activity. They have won various awards. Anywhere that does trad smoking will prob be OK. Just ask them how they do it.

        • The best bacon I ever had was in Tasmania last year, made from a local company and it was about $30/kg. Boks Bacon. Im sure some of our Tassie friends can vouch for it. Was honey cured, melt in your mouth sweetness.

      • my local coles actually sells "english style" bacon. to me that's proper bacon.

    • australian bacon

made in australia - from local and imported ingredients :(

      • local salt, imported pork ;)

  • Cheap bacon of any nationality is crap. Supermarket bacon is 50% water and spits all over the place and shrinks to half it's size as the water evaporates as it cooks. So,it ends up being actually twice the price. And, the nitrates are carcinogenic. Apart from that it's delish.

    • really..must you be such a sour puss. Im not here to preach to anyone to have a diet full of bacon, like everything in moderation its fine. Many things in this world we live in are carcinogenic. Thats life

    • And, the nitrates are carcinogenic.

your rant was mostly accurate right up until you pulled that one..

      • My mate's a pharmacist and I didn't realise it was carcinogenic till she told me last Christmas when I thought some lovely bacon and eggs would be a treat. After she said that, then I looked it nitrates and it is so. It's not just something I made up. It may not actually stop me eating bacon, just maybe not quite so often.

When did personal opinions voiced become rants and therefore to be criticised. I now buy bacon free of nitrates that's been smoked naturally and it's at least twice the price, 4 times the flavour.

    • try not to breath too hard on oxygen…they are the source of free radicals. That is proven to be the cause for all cancers!

    • the nitrates are carcinogenic.

      pig's arse…

Ok, a comment on bacon has been expanded to your actual breathing. ;)

    • +1

yea, that's why you should keep your comment as I only buy xxx bacon because they are naturally smoked rather than bring in healthy reason. What you did is like I only order "healthy tick" range in Macca or I only drink soft drinks without sugar or caffeine, because I am healthy.

Cured meat is processed meat and processed food is bad regardless. It was invented when people dont get access to fresh food all year long, not for "Healthier" option. You have access to fresh food access all year long but chose this for your personal preference, and you need to stop justifying it as your healthy lifestyle.

I stand up for people having an opinion - yours, mine, anyone's. And I have the right to voice it, just as you say I do not, that is your opinion. So nope, as you suggest, I will not "keep" my comments, just as I don't expect you to.

        • I thought they were your mate the pharmacists opinion though?

Mmmm gonna have a fry-up and celebrate today with Bacon. The aim will be to see how many things I can wrap & stuff with bacon + how many sides dishes can be made with Bacon. And yes, to also just eat Bacon on its own. Mmmm love Bacon.

  • How much bacon do I need in order to make a bacon angel like that in the Tv ad?

  • 1kg packs of Primo short cut bacon are $9 in the Woolies catalog ending today.

  • 33c/kg less than 1kg pack of Primo Short Cut Bacon at Woolies (ends today). Oops - too slow.
