Australia Post lost my iPhone

Sent an iphone via registered post to a PO Box address. It was tracked to the PO awaiting pick up but then deemed lost. $100 has been sent as compensation for a $500 that cannot be found at the Post Office and that is the extent of their liability. It arrived at the Post Office to be picked up and there has been no further tracking. Any suggestions?

  • I'munsure as to the terms of registered post , but find them and see what recourse you are entitled to. Personally, Australia post is the most unreliable post, you can pay as much extras as you want, but they are just crap. Too often registered post is just left with my normal post, no signature asked for.

(Good luck OP hope it turns out ok)

If they did, I'm sure the companies you owe money to won't forget lol

  • From memory registered post only gives $100 of insurance cover.

Full insurance to $500 would have cost extra, then they would have paid in full.

should have paid the extra insurance. it wasn't much more. you can still lodge a formal complaint and see if they take it seriously. I am not sure if you actually have any rights of recourse.

I would think its been delivered to the p.o. box and the receiver is being a bit dodge.

    • I agree, sounds like the receiver is totally being dodge.

Also you could do more to chase this up, are the POB's at an outlet? Call and see if they can help?

Did you call the call centre to see if they have more info? Generally they are really good and can help find out what has ACTUALLY happened.

In terms of compensation, they gave you what you agreed to by the insurance you paid for.

    • Receiver is not being dodgy. It was "lost" at the Post Office. There was no further tracking after it was delivered to the PO. I have lodged a formal complaint and was told that they rang the PO involved and they do not know what happened to it. Deemed "lost". Compensation of $100 paid. Done and dusted!

If you didn't "top up" the registered post, to cover $500 - then $100 is all you get.

You should always cover the total value you are posting.

  • 4 Compensation and Extra Cover
4.1 The domestic Registered Post service provides compensation on the article in the
sum of $100 and the cost of this is included in the fee for the service. Additional
compensation cover up to $5,000 is available under the Extra Cover service.

    10 Payment of Claim
10.1 Upon receipt of a valid claim, Australia Post will pay the claimant the amount
required to be paid under the service together with a refund of the postage originally
paid for carriage of the article, excluding any Registered Post fee.

So, you should have received $100 plus postage paid.

Was there anything that could have shown what the inside contents of the package was??

Regardless…. when sending something worth that much you should have had insurance.

I don't think it is too unreasonable to expect that once the item was delivered to the post office itself that it be dealt with correctly and either someone would have had to sign for it or someone thieved it. You won't get more than $100 for it, but that post office needs to have a good hard look at its staff.

I've received registered items more than once where the whole form has still been attached to the parcel, which means that Aus Post didn't keep the section they were supposed to keep, and didn't get a delivery signature. As far as Aus Post's records were concerned, those parcels would have been "lost".

    • Agree!

    "find my iphone"?

  • I think it was already been picked up by the receiver. There might just be a system glitch that caused the delivered event not to be recorded.

Have you asked the receiver? Is it a buyer or relative or Friend?
