  • Where did u get $219.99.. It's $400+ for me

    • make sure to select the 480GB you have the 960 selected

    • The link defaults to the 960 GB drive, you need to select 480gb from the drop down box (edit: beaten by 30 seconds typing on iphone…)

    • Change the drop-down to 480gb.

Price on the msata has not moved. Doh.

  • Try looking for the 480GB and not the 960GB Unit. $219 is about the lowest it's got. Has been down to that level before in the last few weeks but when our dollar was lower. Good buying at the moment.

  • What's the best way to buy this .. in US $ or Au $ ..I do have a 28 degrees M/card. Would this be the best way with Amazon purchases ?

    • +4

Always pay in the shops country of origin currency and let the 28 degrees handle the exchange rate. The 28 degrees has near market rate exchange.

      • @ firstpost bekind

Yep looking at my last purchase of this ssd it came to AUD$246.37 shipped- when the AU dollar slightly lower than now. was USD1.08 is USD1.07 currently (approx)*using 28 deg card

    • I have my 28D linked to my Amazon account. Definitely pay in US$, my last purchase was $258 instead of $265 with an auto conversion from US$ to A$. Basically they are charging the 3% curr fee to do it I suppose.

  • 220usd + postage…

  • boy o boy, the price on the 480 sounds pretty sweet :)

Just in time my 256 is running out of space. Cheers

  • Comes to AUD 251.16 posted (AUD 245.16 + AUD 6.00)

  • Didn't realise you could get a refund from a price drop through Amazon. Started a chat, within 1 minute confirmed that a $14.01 refund was on its way in 2-3 business days, as I had bought it at $234 within the last 7 days. So A$258 delivered now becomes ~A$244. Nice. Delivery ETA was 2 weeks from order, so should have it by 30th April.

    • They give refunds 2-3 months out?

      • He said it was bought in the last 7 days.

  • I bought it for $305 delivered from mwave last week :'(.

And you supported a dodgy company.

  • Put USD in the title. Also, would be good to add + Shipping.

It should read $219.99 USD + Shipping.

You can make use of the report button for stuff like this, in cases where the OP may not read this/etc. If you report as 'other' and request the title be amended, it's usually fixed within minutes! :)

    Hrmmmm… OzBargain makes me poor.

  • Anyone know what is the cheapest price an 840 PRO 256GB or 512GB has ever been seen at?

  • SSD prices are dropping fast. Pretty soon (within the next 2-3yrs) SSD sizes will reach capacities equal to a mechanical 4TB HDD. That will be a great day!

    • dropped US$10 since last month: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/136609

    • They're dropping fast but I'm not sure they're dropping THAT fast. We're talking 4X the current capacity, and for the same price?

Maybe, but I would be impressed if in 2 years I can buy a 4TB SSD for $500. I can't imagine how big HDDs would be in size by then.

      • dropping fast enough to get 27 votes.

  • I'm running Windows 8 on a 120GB SSD (supplemented by a HDD), but keep having to clear stuff out. I also want to upgrade to Win 8.1 at some point.
I just bought this to replace my 120GB SSD.

Should I upgrade to 8.1 first, then try to clone the disk?
Or should I do a clean install of 8.1 on my 480GB SSD? It would be a pain in the ass to have to reinstall all my apps though.
    Any suggestions?

Depends how much you value squeezing every ounce of performance out of it versus convenience. The M500s are not the snappiest SSDs on the block, not by a long shot, especially with the release of their successor (though they are more than fast enough for 95% of users). If you had a Samsung Evo 840 or a SanDisk Extreme II, I would say just clone the old SSD, but with an M500 I would do a clean install (which is what I did with mine).

A clean install will reduce the frequency of writes, which will prolong longevity.

It'll also give you a chance to disable performance-hampering features like SuperFetch, System Restore, and Indexing, right off the bat and to move Temp Files/Caches to a secondary drive, and even the PageFile (though I will say people debate the effectiveness of that); all of which can make a huge difference to sustained performance. If you're really thorough you can check the partition alignment and realign if necessary.

Don't forget to update the firmware as soon as you get it. A new revision debuted just last month.

  • Gone up by 15 USD to make it about 260 AUD shipped.
