Philips Masters MR16 7W LED Globe $19.90 Each @ Bunnings (Price Beat + 15% to $15.22@ Masters)

190

Was looking for LED globes after unsuccessful attempt to price beat during Masters buy 2 free 1 promo
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139423

Found that Bunnings is currently selling for only $19.90, RRP in Masters is $29.90. Masters price beat 10% and combined with 15% Caltex docket (valid til 27 April?)
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139922

Bring down to $15.22 each, better than any price I could find online.

Also available in 3000K Warm White

that review isn't for this particular light. you'll notice the colour temperature is wrong and the actual product reviewed includes the name "master" whereas the bunnings one doesn't

  • I price matched in Bunnings during the buy 2 get 1 free deal. I got them for $18 each.

  • Would I be able to replace my existing halogen down lights with one of these without replacing the transformers?

    • +2

Yep as long as you either have iron core transformers, or connect a few of the 12V wires to one electronic transformer. Reason is the electronic ones usually have a minimum wattage to drive before it turns on (printed on it).

      • Thanks for explaining that Robbie, I was not aware of that :-)

      • Usually about 10w is the minimum rated (thats what mine are stamped with, but they run 5w globes ok).

Since there is a bit of power loss in the conversion, ideally you'd want to run 6 to 8 of these 7W LED lights off the one transformer, rather than individually. Either that or use smaller more efficient transformers.

    • I ran a 4W Philips off an Atco Possum, so they are pretty tolerant to Transformers. Else $9 @ Bunnings for a replacement. Try a single unit first..

Aldi had 7w and 5w last week for $9.95 each

      Philips?

        Rebranded generic Chinese more likely

          Pointless price comparison then!

  • I am looking to buy some led downlights as well.
Can somebody post the receipt? so I can price match. Thanks a lot.

      Pricematch the Pricematch?

  • Can't find Philips mr16 from Masters website, are you buying from the shop or online?

  • They're only available in store. Pop into Masters and show them the Bunnings website, they will beat it by 10%. Combine it with 15% voucher if you have it.

  • Thank you thank you thank you so so so much
for getting me onto these LEDs, they are awesome!
I replaced a couple of 5w Aldi ones (one had failed) and I can finally see in my fken bedroom!
Although it says cool white, it is more like daylight, quite a nice colour. Nicer than the orange halogens and brighter too! (most likely 35w halogens I think)

The warm white ones were not available at the Masters I went to (Northland)

    • The Cool White is the Hotter @ 4000K - More a clinical/daylight colour

  • I have one question regarding the swapping of halogens with LED downlights relating to compatibility of existing transformer.

If I install the LED and it works without flickering or explosions, does that mean it is definitely compatible? Or is there a grey area where they might work perfectly for a few months and then stop working?

I ask this as I previously had a 5w Aldi LED downlight that went out after ~6 months whilst the other is still working.

I think it's just the Aldi LED are crap.

If the transformer can drive the smaller load, you should be OK.
