Powered by Fast Plextor mSATA 128GB SSD!

Isn't it powered by the battery ?

    • +16

      Powered by Intel inside!

      • +16

i think ultimately its powered by a coal fired powerplant

        • +19

Coal comes from peat, and peat comes from dead vegetation.

So your laptop is powered by salad, with the occasional chunk of dinosaur meat.

        • +5

          peat comes from dead vegetation.

that gets it's energy from the sun, so is it solar powered ?

        • +14

That's powered by fusion. So it is powered by fusion.

        • +2

Fusion is powered by Hydrogen, so it runs on gas

        • Which clearly everyone is cooking on…..apart from those using wood, or coal, or electric…….And around we go again.

          :-)

        • +2

          Ultimately powered by God.

          I said it!

        • +3

          Which is powered by Humans.

        • +3

Which is then powered by Chuck Norris.

        • which one

    • +9

Came here for the mandatory jv comment at the top.

      Left satisfied.

  • +5

Here is a review of the chassis, although screen reviewed is different (gloss, as opposed to the matte on the post)

        Was that so hard?

        • +1

or give it a go with SteamOS O.o

        • +2

Windows 8.1 is about $15 if your company has HUP.

        • can you hook me up? :P

        • +12
        • LOL!

        • +1

Sorry, unfortunately I only have one government email and can only get one for myself…

          Have a look at:

      • Windows 8.1 is about $15 if your company has HUP.

      • Buy an OS instead of pirating it? It's quality build with no OS and OS is not that expensive

      • +1

        haha. who buys windows?

      • +2

if you have issues with torrent OS ISOs then you are doing it wrong.

        • SHA-1 ftw

    • +7

And so are you, little man.

  • +2

I bought one a couple of weeks ago (from a competitor). Should have waited!

Very nice laptop and I can recommend it :)

Edit: Actually I see that it doesn't ship till 19 May so take that into account.

  • Rep is the 860m the new Maxwell or the Kepler version?

Would it be worth holding off for a 4k screen or are they going to be a while?

    • +1

      Maxwell.

Sorry I think 4K is still a way off from our 15.6" models.

      • -6

        Maxwell or the Kepler version?

I might wait for the Kepler model, it is rumored to be out of this world…

        • +10

Sorry but if you are going to troll Maxwell is also the name of a telescope. Named after James Clerk Maxwell.

        • -3

          Named after James Clerk Maxwell.

Is he the one with the Silver Hammer?

        • +3

          Is OzBargain your occupation jv?

        • +19

JV lives, breathes and eats Ozbargain. Some say he's even melded with the Ozbargain servers and his entire consciousness is now being stored in just 9000 lines of code.

And he's watching. Watching your every Ozbargain post.

        • lol

        • Lmao.

        • +4

Ah you think bargaining is your ally? You merely adopted Ozbargain. JV was born in it, molded by it. He didn't see RRP until he was already a man, by then it was nothing to him but a ripoff!

        • -2

          Is OzBargain your occupation jv?

Says the person that has, on average, posted that many comments every 46 days, for over half a decade…
          ;)

        • Yes, and your point is? Go home jv you're drunk.

        • Go home jv

I live here Walter… You must be new…

        • +3

JV lives, breathes and eats Ozbargain. Some say he's even melded with the Ozbargain servers and his entire consciousness is now being stored in just 9000 lines of code.

          That sounds like BS.

9,000 lines of codes is far more than required. 4,000 tops; including the sense_of_humourx86 v0.1 alpha update. Apparently they had to roll it back due to massive incompatibility with the rest of his consciousness.

  • +4

That is a great price for that config.

    • +2

Whoops didn't mean to neg vote, how do I reverse that?

  • Great customization options!

  • 2.7 kg too heavy for me :(

    • +5

      harden up :P

    • +1

I wouldn't go 15.6 inch if you carry it around a lot.

I would go 13 inch. Something like a budget Lenovo, except with a better screen.

    • Anything more than 3 kilo is heavy.
2.7 kg is not too bad.

I got the Targus travel adapter from HVN for $25 which reduced the overall weight.

  • Rep, the 8GB ram is in 1 slot? so I can simply add another one later? Thanks.

    • +5

Yes 8GB is one slot. It has 3 slots, so 2 spare. You can add it later with your own memory if you wish. It won't void the warranty.

      • What is the max ram allowed to be run with this laptop?

        • +3

          24GB

  • +1

Rep, I missed the Horize 13inch deal and it has now been discontinued. Is there any chance that it will be back with newer specs maybe?

    • +3

Yes, we will do a deal on the new model and will list it in the coming weeks. There is a new graphics card in it and an option for a higher resolution panel.

      • +1

Yeah, quite keen on the 13inch deal as well.

Oh yes OP, and sorry if i missed this anywhere in the post, but do you provide tax invoice for TRS purposes on all laptops? Keen to take advantage for end of June.

        Thanks in advance

        • Same question actually. Anyone knows if I'm eligible for any tax claim at the end of financial year if I purchased this now? A total noob here…

        • From [Customs.gov.au] (http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp)

To claim a refund you must:

          • Spend $300 (GST inclusive) or more in the one store and retain your invoices.
          • Have purchased the goods no more than 60 days before your departure from Australia.
          • Wear or carry the goods on board the aircraft or ship and present them along with your original tax invoice, passport and international boarding pass to a Customs and Border Protection Officer at a TRS facility.
        • For TRS you cannot bring the laptop back.
Custom is starting to crack down on this, so be warned.

        • What do you mean by you can't bring it back? Are you then expected to declare and pay tax on it coming in?

        • Looked it up. You are….I assume you can combine totals with your travel companion (wife etc)…. But it doesn't actually say.

        • Yes we provide a tax invoice as soon as payment has been received.

        • @ausooi

what has this got to do with tax returns?

        • Yep, I think you can combine with wife and family.

  • That's a pretty sweet laptop…kind of wish I had this instead of my current Samsung laptop (which is pretty bad now, only after 2 years usage).

  • Hi Rep, Could you please share the incoming 13" model number and its approximate price? Thanks.

    • Clevo W230SS. Currently available at competitors for around $1400.

      • Yes, you can get it at places like this:
        http://www.affordablelaptops.com.au/contents/en-us/d473_meta…

Interesting to see QHD 3200x1800 panel for extra $149. Finally a laptop with a better resolution that a phone, unfortunately a gloss panel, not matte, though.

        • +1

And unfortunately an absolutely terrible display. That display should not even be listed for sale. Samsung are planning on fixing the display issue in July or so, so we won't be listing it with the QHD panel until they have resolved the issue.

        • Thx for the feedback!

        • I can't find any more info on the display - can you elaborate on the problems?

    • +5

Horize W230SS. We are doing some bulk buying on this model to secure an excellent price. I will update the site when that product is live. I would approximate around the $1300 mark.

      • Will you post a deal on OzBargain when it's out? I'm pretty keen on a 13" version.

  • Hey Rep, bought one previously. Will adding a HDD (by myself) void my extended warranty?

    • +5

No, it will maintain it's warranty. Unless you break it yourself, so be careful. Although in saying that it is really easy, if you need any help just ask one of our techs for some assistance on the phone.

      • Awesome! Thank you so much. Might shoot you guys an e-mail :)

  • +1

Hi rep, will you guys be releasing a newer model of the w840sn?

    • I'd like to know this as well.

    • Sorry, no. nVidia is not refreshing the 745m card unfortunately. So there is no updated model to the W840SN. It has effectively been discontinued.

  • +1

For the price - it is an interesting option. However, I am waiting for release and reviews of the GS60 2PE Ghost Pro 3K Edition which while obviously a higher price than listed above at around USD$2100 plus shipping, it is a much better machine and not much more when you add up all the extras.

The store rep recommend the 95% Gamut and the AC wireless upgrades on the Horize. If you add those, plus all the other extra the GS60 has:
    12GB RAM, 2x128GB SSD + 1 TB 7200rpm, Windows 8.1 - the Horize would cost $1903.

Yet the GS60 has an IPS 3K screen instead of 1080P, weighs 30% less, has an 870M which will most likely be Kepler, which among other things doubles the battery life while playing games. Also I assume it will run cooler and quieter.

While the GS60 has some flaws (touchpad, fan profile when not gaming), for the extra $500 (shipping + GST) it is still a better option. I don't think people dropping money on a gaming laptop want to get second best. Just look at all the poorly specced, high priced gaming laptops for sale on ebay. Every 6 months they just get faster and lighter, faster and lighter.

    • +3

The W355SS compares more with the MSI GE60 than the GS60. If you want a high gaming spec laptop from Clevo then you need to look at the P151SM1-A, P150SM-A, and above.

And I think you are confused with Kepler and Maxwell. Maxwell is the cooler and more power efficient version.

You can spend a really large amount of cash on a gaming laptop but this being Ozbargain I think people want a good bang for buck laptop. That is exactly where this model fits in.

      • +2

IMO I wouldn't spend $2K+ getting a highend Alienware or similar laptop. It will get old real fast.
Something like this at the $1200-$1400 mark is much better value.

Better to save your money and upgrade your laptop more frequently.

I upgrade post June every year (for tax).

        • sad thing is you really can't upgrade the major components of this laptop (CPU & GPU)

        • +1

CPU you can, but GPU is onboard yes. The P series offer upgradeable GPU.

  • Great deal! I think i'll upgrade the screen but one question is: Anyone knows if I should upgrade the Wireless card to AC? Now I don't see AC Wifi in many places so will it give me better wifi performance if the router is only a wireless N or lower?

    • +1

Probably not. It already comes with a dual band Intel card.

You can upgrade it yourself (for less) in the future if needed.

  • Hi Jack, can you tell me the exact chipset for HORIZE W550SU-1 ULTRANOTE's standard wireless card + bluetooth? Thanks!

    • Hi. It is Realtek RTL8723AE

  • how does horize compare with metabox? :s

  • No IPS display on this one?
