Sorry but I've never bought from Amazon,
Is it easy to ship to Aus?

    • +1

yep! just create an account with your Australian address, it'll calculate postage for you at the checkout.

    • +4

      D'oh !!!

      • +6

Only use the amazon currency converter as a last resort if you don't have a international transaction fee free credit card. Amazon rates are usually much worse then fee free CC.

        • +3

Much worse is a little harsh, I believe the fairly standard rate for the banks is around 2.5% while Amazons is around 3.5%. It's a lot if your buying a house or a car but not so much over a Lego play set.

        • It's 0% if you use a fee free CC

        • Can you recommend a card? Or tell us which banks have them?

        • +3

          I have the 28 degrees.
          http://www.28degreescard.com.au/

        • +4

Standard credit cards charge about 3% to convert to AU from US, and then another 3% for a foreign transactions. Even if you buy from an overseas kompanie in $AU, then still charge you 3%. There is a word for this: THEFT.

28 Degrees = same rates as on Mastercard's site. It the long run it will save you hundreds of dollars plus give you the satisfaction of knowing you are not contributing to the lavish lifestyles of all the parasitic bank share owners.

Generally toys are cheaper to purchase from Amazon than locally, but in the old days they were even cheaper, when Amazon charged $2.50/pound shipping to AU. Now it is $4/pound for Toy/Game items. Still considerably cheaper than paying the USPS rate though, and faster/more reliable.

        • Credit card companies and banks have to deal with fraud and fluctuating exchange rates. A surcharge on overseas transactions is one way to do it.

          You are paying for convenience.

        • +1

the bank share owners? kind of like anyone in Australia with a super fund?

        • Lots of good things about that 28deg card, but man, 20.99% annual interest rate, holy moly. Great card if you keep a nil balance, I guess.

        • You only have to worry about the interest rate if you don't pay your debts on time. You have up to ~60 days to pay.

I wonder if this will be collectible in 30+ years

    • +2

Only if they don't make many more models

  • +7

this looks pretty cool but i dont think im willing to pay $250 for it

    • +1

$320 for my pre-order layby at my local Toyworld. Great price if you were thinking of getting one. Apparently limited edition but not sure how many "limited edition" would be. I really hope they bring out other parts of Springfield like Moe's, School, power plant and so forth.

      • Limited edition usually means it's available for a shorter time than other sets before being retired.

  • -4

    doh!

  • good find! thanks OP!

should point out that Lego 10243 Parisian Restaurant is also available for shipping to AU at approx US$195 shipped (AU$215), which is also cheaper than buying it in Australia as well.

three Lego buildings now coming my way! how exciting!

Pretty tempting, though they have weird eyes..

    http://news.toyark.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2014/01/LE…

You need to purchase them separately, if you want them to have normal looking eyes:

    • +3

Yeah, Lisa looks embarrassed, Bart looks shifty, Maggie looks like she's seen a ghost and Marge looks… horny!

Edit: Was looking at your pictures but just looked at front of box and saw Ned is on Marge's right. No wonder Maggie's surprised!

  • I wonder what Simpson's franchise is worth

  • Would Simpson's had to pay Lego for this or the otherway around?

    • +1

LEGO pays Simpsons the rights, such as Star Wars themes etc…

      Hence the high prices

    • Don't know, though there is a Lego Simpson's episode that is airing soon, and even rumours of a Lego Simpson's videogame.

  • +1

Trying to work out whether I'll be saying D'oh! for throwing 250 bucks at Lego, or a bigger D'Oh for missing out…

    • +6

I purchased the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon back in 2006, for $600 now it is worth $3000, depending on the right collector

      • +1

        holly molly!!! >_<

      • do you still have it and new????

        • +1

Yes I still have it and in original new in cardboard box. Sits in garage. I plan to keep it till I have enough time/room to open and play it. cant right now, maybe in my retirement.

        • You sure you will have steady hands by then?! :P

        • +1

Im sure I can invite a few people to help ;)

          Share in the experience!

      • You sir, have just got my +1

      • Yea, I sold mine on eBay for $2500 last year USED. Bought it for around $800 in '08, not a bad ROI for a toy!

  • Was about to pre-order through Rick James Bricks….. but lucky this came up. Saved me a packet!

  • if its still on Amazon at my next pay I'm buying this, hope to not miss out, would pay more if i have to

  • To the people who are ordering this: For entertainment or collection (kept in box) purposes?

    • +1

Going to build it then pack it away!

  • Does anyone have a list of currently available Lego on Amazon that will ship to Australia? I know there are a few sets but I can't filter them on Amazon.

  • +1

Tempting, but it's this or the Sea Cow. The Sea Cow is rather awesome…

  • 742 Evergreen Terrace… Right?

  • -4

IM GONNA PICK UP THE PIECES AND BUILD A LEGO HOUSE.
IF THINGS GO WRONG WE CAN KNOCK IT DOWN.

  • Its ~AUD$258.97 now.
Oops sorry, I have the expedited shipping option selected.

    • mine was $265 using 28 degrees…how did you get $258?? what credit card did you use?

      • same here.

      • I am using xe.com to convert to AUD$.

    • +1

I'll get expedited if it's only a 3 bucks difference. Not really liking the usual shipping by i-parcel which gets transferred to AusPost which simply leaves it on your front door. But if you are lucky, you item may be shipped by UPS. I'm quite sure this one won't get the UPS treatment due to it's smaller box size.

  • +1

I want two, one to play with, one to collect.

  • Saw them yesterday while browsing…and then saw it on Ozbargain this morning so I knew I had to get it :) also snap up a pair of shoes with extra 20% off

    http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Minifigures-Simpsons-Series-Build…

    • was gonna get it and realised it's $5 AUD for ONE figurine, and it's in a packet so you don't know what character you're gonna get :(

      • +3

Shop for me is selling all 16 figures as a set for $80

    • got an email this morning outrimtrading another lego shop has em on sale for $3.99

  • +1

browsed through the lego website and ended up getting the Simpsons House, Death Star and Ewok Village….are there any other epic ones out there? looking for large setups

    • I hope you used your VIP card. 10% off for next time!

      • 5% right? $1.50 for 1 point. Get 100 points ($150) and get $7.50 credit. Or am I missing something?

        • Ah you may be right, I was thinking of double VIP points they have sometimes. My bad.

    • UCS Super Star Destroyer? it's ~3200 pieces if I remember correctly

  • This is very relevant as the Simpsons has a new episode on May 5th entirely in Lego style. It will be the most expensive episode yet.

  • Damn, why doesn't the shipping get any cheaper with multiple sets? I was hoping to pool with some friends and save money on shipping by having a few sets arrive in one box.

  • I just bought one using 28 degrees. according to the mastercard currency conversion website it's going to cost me $259AU delivered based on today's rates. There's only $3USD difference between standard and expedite delivery, so I went with the quicker one.

  • Anyone think this will be worth something more then $250 in the future?

    • In Australia it's already "worth" $329. ;D

      • ok more then that then sorry

        • +1

yes, but not until they stop making the set which is probably a few years away.

  • New feature on 28 degrees site - pending transactions are now visible.

I have been charged - AUD$256.92 for this purchase.

    • Nice. Thanks for the tip. Although it hasn't show up in my pending transaction list yet, but good to know for future reference.

  • Damn…used 28 degrees but chose to have the transaction in AUD…no wonder I got $265 :( and what's worse is that I ended up getting $1100 worth of lego…could have saved me at least $50 if I chose to buy in USD and allow 28 degrees to convert the rate. lesson learnt ::((

    • Question guys…if I cancel my order now…will they refund the total amount in AUD that they charged? Or it depends on the amazon exchange rate? Feel like cancelling and reordering

      • i think if you manage to cancel it now on amazon, the transaction will just become void and cancelled.
However, it might be too late to cancel though.

  • It seems just expired :) Luckily I bought one just before the price went up.

    • Dont worry its back in stock again :)

      • Can you post the new link as i can't find it now?

        • Sorry it seems the price has gone up. I was quite lucky to manage to snap 1 for myself.

        • "Ships from and sold by 911 DRUGSTORE."

I am imaging things or was it direct from Amazon when it was cheaper?

        • correct.

        • Hmmm… didn't realise the same product from a different seller would have the same address/ID. Not a good idea IMHO.
From memory the "previous version" (from Amazon) said stock was due on the 6th - maybe the price will go back down?

  • Looks like I'm likely to be receiving the package tomorrow.
It has already cleared the AU custom.
paid the cheapest shipping option and getting this speedy service.

May 4, 2014, 8:53 pm, —- Initiated customs clearance process
May 4, 2014, 8:53 pm, Perth AU Completed customs clearance process

    • lucky, mine hasn't been shipped yet :(

    • I think you picked the "expedited shipping option"?

  • Just received my package today from Amazon (Global Standard Shipping)! Awesome!

  • just got mine. damn quick delivery. 2 days!! btw. box is massive. way bigger than I thought it would be.

  • got it today too…freaking quick delivery from USA…what a deal…amazing set!

  • Got mine on the 8th as well. Can't believe it only took a few days!!! The box is MASSIVE! I had bad experiences with Amazon in the past with their crappy shipping practices damaging my stuff in transit. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Lego box in mint condition and the parcel packed very very very well!

Also, I used a (free) Bankwest Platinum credit card and it didn't look like I paid any conversion fees. Worked out to be $257 when I bought it on Sunday night.

  • +1

    its back on.

  • I bought one this morning, worked out to $254 AUD
