Comedy price: $229 in Officeworks.
http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/casio-classpa… Officeworks claims Best Seller. If this is a Best Seller for them, then there must be a lot of people around that are loose with the cashola. Or maybe they are Warranty Worriers (WW). Are you one of those people? Then please spend 60+ more dollars buying it locally.

Amazon price (USD)

$141.82 Casio ClassPad FX-CP400
$ 9.89 delivery

$151.71 (about $168 Australian dollars (with currency conversion thievery added on)

If Ships from and sold by Amazon.com doesn't show up as your seller, click on "5 new from…" (or similar link) and find Amazon.com and add the item to your cart that way. Or you can try a third-party seller if you want. I tend to prefer amazon.com as the seller.

This is only a few bucks cheaper than Amazon's average price (and the absolute lowest price from amazon.com has been $136.52 USD recently), but $141.82 is still not far from the lowest and I'm surprised nobody has brought up the new colour ClassPad on OzBargain. Enjoy the savings.

Just a note for students: Because it is a graphing calculator, it is most likely not approved for exams by Board of Studies (for high school students) and Universities. Check with your educational institution before purchasing.

But wow, it looks almost like a Nokia candy bar phone.

It is approved for VCE mathematics examination as of now (that means you can use it for the 2014 exams and onwards).

      Source: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/studies/mathematics/app…

Not so sure with other states' regulations and rules as of now.

By the way, it is a lot better compared to the previous generation, big colourful screen, feel a bit faster (?)

  • Wow. I'm surprised that some mod hasn't looked at the headline and turned "colour graphing calculator" into "Colour Graphing Calculator" yet. We'll see how long that lasts. What a change to see just the product name and model number (and store name) in capitals.

Freedom is mine! (for a short time)
Sorry, I just had to mention that.

LOL: and there she goes! Colour Graphing Calculator. Thanks mod. Ahem.. ;)

I needed this at this price 3 months ago

    • It was only a few bucks more 3 months ago (~146.61 USD from what CamelCamelCamel tells me). So it was still a fair bit cheaper than local. The difference between Amazon and local on basics like this is huge; I don't know why anyone would buy it here.

  • It's a "best seller" because it's prescribed by pretty much every school for advanced maths classes. These fly off the shelf at the start of the year. $168 is a huge bargain if you're going to need one of these.

    • Yes, I guess my point is there is a general lack of knowledge of alternative suppliers selling for less. At $229 in all honesty I don't think they should be flying off the shelves. Maybe it's the ghetto in me.

On this particular product you don't have to look hard to easily get it at a cheaper price since this is only a little cheaper than Amazon's average price. Earlier in the year you could score it for only a few bucks more.

  • Guys, there is a fantastic YouTube review of the FX-CP400 here:
▶ CAM #2 - Casio II FX-CP400 ClassPad Calculator, Arrival and Review - YouTube
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VppXuhHO_g

    Goes in to some detail.
32 min. Detail starts at 3:44.

PS. Not a bad idea to pick up some AAA eneloop batteries while buying the unit if you don't already have some.

  • I've still got my graphics calculator in the drawer from 10 years ago and thats where its stayed unused since. What a waste of money and time learning to use just to pass one exam.

    • What a waste of money and time learning to use just to pass one exam.

What you want is to upgrade to a colour one. I can feel your lust.
Is there any reason why you didn't sell your "sitting in the drawer" model?

    • Compare to dead-tree books & cheap ebooks…

We have -costly- H/W col gr calc'rs, but
we NEED -cheap- S/W col gr calc'rs that run on Android tabs & Apple iPad.

Alternatively, folks can skip (often limiting) school & their restrictions
& work seriously at Home Schools, eg, along with other serious students,
eg, using KhanAcademy.org, OpenCourseWare, MOOCs, & iTunes Univ courses.

Most of these online courseware being free, they could save $$ for exams
or chosen uni's… or aim for IT, where demonstrated skills earns jobs,
ie, when those skills are at very advanced levels.

We're clearly training test-takers, while we need creative people, who
can think outside boxes, use resources efficiently & from new ideas -
eg, "Nuclear 2.0" / Molten Salt Reactors (MSRs) / Energy from Thorium /
Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTRs) so we can dump fossil-fuels &
play a genuinely leading role in the World.

(Canadians are predicting -they'll- have MSRs approved & -operating- within industrial application…
      WITHIN 6 YEARS)

  • isn't there an app for android to do the exact same thing w/touch screen keypad?

    • I know you can get some software for smartphones but I don't know if the usability or features matches a dedicated device. Hard buttons plus stylus plus touchscreen plus much better battery life than a typical phone.

I guess it depends on what you want to use the calculator for and what your demands are.

  • Amazon has dropped their price from 141.82 to 140.29 as I write this. A saving of 1.53 USD. Not in stock but more coming, so you can still order.

EDIT: amazon's price (ships and sold by amazon) is now 138.92 USD as I write this. A saving of $2.90 USD from my initial post. 138.92 USD is very close to all-time low of 136.52 showing up on CamelCamelCamel.

    :)

    • I bought this for USD136.52 + 13.07 shipping in mid April from Amazon.

      • I bought this for USD136.52 + 13.07 shipping in mid April from Amazon.

Amazon will offer you the cheapest delivery estimate when adding stuff to your cart, then it will hit you with the AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping option when checking out (which costs more). I almost got swindled at checkout before changing it back to AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping and it sounds like that is what you paid for.

You got the calculator at the cheapest price. Congrats. It has hit that price again now.

  • it is all time low 136.52 there go.

    • That's an amazon third-party seller (SchoolMart).
Price from amazon.com is now: $137.87 (a saving of 3.95 USD since I posted the deal). So the calculator is about $4.40 AUD cheaper.

      :)

PS. Remember to choose Standard delivery when checking out (in order to not pay more for delivery). Amazon defaults to the middle option (more expensive).

  • "Never buy anything so new it's ver. # is 1.00"

    • Care to be more specific?

      • It's a way to skip having to update firmware upon first opening the box & (hopefully) get fewer bugs in what you buy.

An update is usually just around the corner for such products.
Some may buy before they need one.

Over 1.0x often follows on the heels of initial product release.

The advice doesn't apply to all such products,
so ignore it if you wish… :-)

  • It was 141.82 when posting the deal.
    Now 136.52 direct from Amazon.
We have reached the lowest price :-)

Will it go lower? Will it go higher?
    Oh the suspense.

A saving of 5.30 USD since I posted. Unusual to see after an OzBargain posting.
Good things come to those who wait (sometimes!)

  • Amazon are having a hard time getting stock!
Unusual to be waiting on stock for this long…

    Price still good though.

  • Nope tried to buy this one from Amazon, they added $93 for shipping on standard only option ship to Australia!!! No option to buy direct … Am i doing something wrong here or have they closed a loophole for Aussies?

    • Am i doing something wrong here or have they closed a loophole for Aussies?

Make sure it's not from a third-party seller (it should say "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com." on the main page before you add it to your cart). I'm looking now and finally Amazon themselves have stock of the ClassPad.

      USD $136.55 ClassPad
      USD $9.62 postage
