Dudes and Dudettes, found this sweet Casio on sale. May your Casio collection grow to envelop the planet. In Casios name, amen.

Courtesy of shap08: A158WA-1A - $52.74 $56.95 was $109 - I have this watch. Love it. Very light, functional. Very accurate, downside would really only be the light. Similar to the f91w it lights up one side and dimly spreads to the rest of the screen.

@WatchNerd is this one a solid grab? :) thanks.

This has a resin case, only the bracelet is SS. And the width is 35.5mm according to Casio.

You can check Camel in the description for the average price. Personally I would rather buy an entry level G-Shock for not much more.

Or if you just want a reasonable price resin case Casio the W219H is still $45.

      • +3

Suppose it's a matter of aesthetic

        • +2

Yeah I think those cheaper G-shocks can look a bit daggy (the steel ones are awesome), whereas this one (and the F91W) have a cool 80's retro vibe.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

          • +2

@1st-Amendment: G-Shocks are resin for a reason, as the name suggest they are built tough to take a beating & absorb impact.

      • If I wanted a cheap watch to wear in the sauna so I knew what time it was while in there, which one should I buy? Gets hot and sweaty in a sauna, and wouldn't want it to cost so much that I'd cry if it stopped working in there.

        • +1

The A700W-1A & W219H don't have a very high water proof rating. I'm guessing you'd want at least 100M to be safe but others might say different.

          • @WatchNerd: So the cheapest resin Casio I can find that's rated for at least 100M is what you'd get?

            • +1

@AustriaBargain: If that's your budget, otherwise wait for a sale & get an entry level G-Shock.

              This one is 100M & currently $47.99.

        • +1

@AustriaBargain I would thoroughly recommend this Casio for your use case

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Casio-Black-Classic-Digital-F91W-1…

I have used this one for swimming in the surf (same as you, needed something cheap that I didn't have to worry about) and is very durable and reliable. 👍 It's basically a little tank imo 😂

Also seems to be on a very decent price at the moment (Prime day special I think)

          • +1

@wonderboy4: Wouldn't the metal band heat up in the sauna and burn you?

            • @AustriaBargain: It's plastic my friend, that's why it's perfect for the sauna or swimming, really cheap and reliable too👍

Plus it's a classic that's been going strong for decades, so you will also be retro chic 😎

Go for dude, you won't be disappointed, it's a good watch and it has a 7 year watch life, so even if you never replace the battery, it's still like $3.50 a year 😅

          • +1

@wonderboy4: Yeah alright, I'll get that one. I see someone on Reddit claim it's good for sauna and another guy on YouTube, so for $25 can't really go wrong. I spend more than that on hamburgers on Doordash.

            • +2

@AustriaBargain: My F91W-1 has been out in the surf with me for years and years and still looks and functions like new despite only being rated as Water Resist (incredibly humble claim).
They are the choice watch of many military and insurgent groups around the world too. Known low-cost performer at taking a beating.

              • +3

@harvestloon: I'll probably use my Apple Watches for insurgency; the F91W-1 will only be for the gym shower and sauna.

        • If you don’t like the F91w then stretch the budget a smidge and get a Casio Duro (the model codes start with MDV106 or MDV107). The “Batman” colour way is $136 on Amazon right now.

It’s completely immune to saunas and is one of the few diving watches that I like the look of

I'd get an fw91 and run the gauntlet. There's plenty of videos showing that watch to be much more water proof than officially rated

    • Check out the A1000 If you want a metal case
Would be a bit more (mine was 120-130 from tictacarea).

Those stretchy vintage bands may be hair nippers too.

  • I'm torn.. not sure which one to get

    • +1

I'm assuming the 35.5mm width would be a deciding factor.

      • +1

        Thanks for pointing that out

    • I own both and enjoy the A158 more. Just has more character

  • +8

Casio A158 was $33.57 in Jan (and below $30 sometimes). Hold off and wait for the price to drop

    • +3

Yeah and I paid 27$. Not worth more than $40 if that.

  • Can anyone suggest a decent watch at least 38-40mm that displays the date in Australian format?
    @WatchNerd

    • +2

Orient Mako or Citizen Promaster would look good on you.

    • Check shockbase.org and select multi date.
The ones with Bluetooth you can change the format usually.

  • Ive been addicted to buying Aliexpress watches such as Strive, Loqnce and Smael.
Really nice build with solid watch straps.
Have about 10 so far and people think they are expensive but i only paid a few dollars after coins and ali promo codes/credit

This watch is super thin. It’s the thinnest retro Casio at 6mm. By comparison, the A158WA is 8.2mm and the F91W “terrorist watch” is 8.5mm.

The crystal is also mineral glass, unlike most retro Casios which are just plastic.

    • Yeah it looks pretty good. Too thin and light isn't always good but mostly comes down to aesthetics.

  • Thanks OP

  • @WatchNerd is there any vintage/retro Casio watch styled like this that has a steel bezel rather than resin? the filter on their website is terrible.

  • I have this variant on order for what seems a decent price.
    https://www.creationwatches.com/products/casio-digital-350/c…

I've never shopped with the company before but it came up after watching a few you tube Casio clips.

  • Does anyone know when these Amazon discounts will expire? Looking to buy one before the end of the month but I am not sure if they will go back to normal prices soon?

    • This is usually a good indication

    • Wouldn't hesitate deals can be over after a day, but he'll an eye on it.

  • 62.95 now

    • +1

      resin case!!

Better off with an A158 or A168 for $40 (or less), unless you like the TV box type look.
