Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 4G 16GB (Black) $579 Delivered @ ShoppingSquare

20

I'm on the lookout for a Note 3 and noticed ShoppingSquare have them for $540 at the moment, unfortunately their shipping stings, which appears to be $39 nationwide from the random postcodes I entered.

That makes it $579 delivered.

Kogan in comparison ends up being $592 delivered. So this seems like a good price to me, if there is a better deal going let me know.

EDIT: Updated heading to include delivered price.

For those who don't know, you will be the importer of the item (not Shopping Square). If you don't know what that means, you may need to find out first.

Direct Shipping Offer - ShoppingSquare.com.au is providing a platform for Australian buyers to purchase oversea item directly from oversea suppliers. ShoppingSquare.com.au will provide Australian base warranty for the item sold via direct shipping offer. Buyer remain as an importer for the items purchased from Direct Shipping Offers.

As with Kogan, it'll be covered under their own warranty (You aren't getting repairs done by Samsung). I couldn't find out much about what's involved. Other shops (maybe Kogan) say the service centre is in Sydney and the buyer has to pay for postage to and from the service centre, among other issues. Plus the fact the repairer is probably not ShoppingSquare.

I'm not saying these are big issues.

It's just for people who didn't know about this, to consider.

    • Interesting, I didn't know that.

Since SS and Kogan both do this Direct Shipping biz, would you give preference to Kogan over SS or are both much of a muchness? I'm thinking Kogan might be worth the few extra dollars since this is more their bread and butter?

      • answered below; but in short, for me, both have issues.

  • Wow, looks like the price of this phone has actually gone up in the past few weeks.

Just looked at the 32GB Note 3 N9005 for $567 delivered from DWI about a week and a half ago, and now the price is up to $595. Sure, there have been some people having problems with DWI in the past, but I think all grey-importers have had a fair amount of complaints and I've never had any problems with DWI/eglobal in the multiple dealings that I've had with them before.

    • I guess this isn't much of a deal after all. I'm actually going to buy my Note 3 from Kogan I think, I've never had dramas from them in the past so +$13 for some peace of mind I guess, even if both vendors do the Direct Shipping Offer mentioned above.

      • Yep, for a bit of extra money I think it's worth negating the risks. Hope you enjoy the phone, everyone I know with one has been pretty happy with it :)

        • Friends and family have one too, my old Note 1 is a slug next to them!

  • t-dimension cheaper I believe and free shipping via toll courier.

    • Close but not quite.

      $581.84

    • have no stock for next 2 weeks.
      kogan no stock as well
i ordered from unique mobiles on thurs for $640, with no response. i may get refund.

      • Yeah I noticed I was looking at the N9000 not the N9005. Out of stock as you say :(

  • Yeah, I was having fun with out of stock etc.

Pgdc5, I ordered from unique. Got emails about order going to warehouse. Got email about it was shipped and should be there. Spoke with them later and was told it was actually sold out at the warehouse, never shipped, they would refund me today … which they didn't do. I ended up putting in a dispute with PayPal. Ended up with my money but wasted around 3 weeks.

If you check their recent deals some members are happy but a few aren't

With Kogan, it may be worth checking if you are dealing with Kogan Australia or if there is small writing saying the product will be sourced via Kogan Hong Kong. Personally I don't like the contract clause that says

    8.1

You hereby appoint Kogan HK as Your agent solely to engage a courier on Your behalf to receive the Kogan HK Products at the point of dispatch or embarkation and deliver them to You.

It sounds like they can, if they really want to, deny responsibility for problems with delivery and also the phone. (All they did was hire someone else to get some object and send it to you)

I looked into some others and what I found, reviewed badly.

Try searching for TopBuy on OzBargain, for earlier fiascos, that did not inspire confidence.

Some shops say they open items to do checking. But if you find something wrong, and try to return an item that has been opened (even opened by them), they want to charge fees.

In the end I thought, if I order from most of these stores, it is an import. After shipping around 640.
Consumer rights are different; Samsung will not repair the phone if it has problems.

I decided, for an extra around $160, I could have it in my hands now, from Dick Smith (rather than Kogan).
I can get Wish gift cards from RACV at 5% discount, and Dick Smith accepts those.

(Already tried getting a deal from Harvey Norman, office works, good guys)

Any problems, I can go to dick Smith by law and ask them to handle warranty. It's in stock, in my hands, no messing around.

That all said, it's a beautiful phone and I'm loving it :)
The software that comes with it and in the upgrades is really nice

  • How does MobiCity compare to Shopping Express & Kogan, I've looked up whirlpool & it seems fairly positive.

    • MobiCity is good, although it's also a grey import. You can find cheaper, for example. Their model is $599.00 + Delivery ($19.90) by International Fedex.

Where ShoppingSquare currently has the phone $579 Delivered ($539 for phone + $38.95 for the postage). Also with ShoppingSquare you'll receive bonus points, these points are eqivent to about $5.

I bought a Galaxy S3 about 2 years ago for $639, and it had given me 5999 points, so I used that for this purchase of the new Galaxy Note 3 to take a further $6 off. Just something to think about later when you are going to purchase another item.

  • Thanks for your reply Moots, I'm still weighing the pros & cons of purchasing a grey import just in case there happens to be a problem with the phone later down the track.
