I can't see what makes this a bargain. Similar cookers, same wattage, on eBay with free delivery for less.

I got a couple of the eurolabs ones a number of years ago, figured they'd be rubbish and not last but they're still going strong. Still amazed how well induction cooking works.

    • eurolabs ones

do you have a power/watt meter? wana check the standby power of yours.

i got one of the 2 "burner" ones a while ago and its a POS. not only does it use 400w in standby mode but one side stopped working a couple of months after i got it.

but i do agree, induction certainly works well. at least as good as gas for most things imo

I unplug them when not in use, but if I can find my power meter in this flapping mess, I'll check them and post results.

I stopped using them a little while back as I replaced the gas burners with a 4 "burner" induction cooktop. The cooktop was the only gas item in the house and it was costing $60+ a quarter just to have gas connected and we used something like $4 worth of gas. Not sure why the hot water and stove weren't also gas, seems like a strange decision and had they been, I would have kept it. When I contacted AGL to turn it off, they just stopped billing us and never actually sent anyone to disconnect or turn it off, I ended up turning it off some 9 months later. Just goes to show what that $60 a quarter was going toward - absolutely nothing.

While I still had gas hobs, I did some tests boiling water and the induction unit was way faster. I know you will most likely know this but for the benefit of those that don't - with gas, a fair amount of heat is lost up the sides of the vessel whereas with induction, it basically turns the vessel into the element so there's nearly no loss at all.

Okay, tested one and on standby it draws .152A and 1.95W. As eurolab are just a rebadger, what you and I have while branded the same are probably made by completely different companies.

This is the one I have which looks an awful lot like this one from oo. Couldn't find the twin one on either of those sites and cbf looking any harder :)

  • I need a power/watt meter, any post on Ozbargain for them? :)

I have two Induction cookers, http://shop.bajajelectricals.com/Bajaj-Majesty-ICX-7-Inducti…
Picked them up around that price including utensils. One of them is going strong for three years now, the other for two years. They both go through heavy use of cooking Indian food :P

We have completely replaced the electric cooktop to use these instead. Can't get gas where we live, unless we use portable bottled gas. Love cooking on the induction tops :)

Aldi have had them a few times, nice and cheap, just wait long enough and they'll come up again.

Jaycar also have a couple if you want one right away. Can probably find differently branded versions of them all on ebay for less if you poke around.

    • I have gas - we use dual-9L bottle with flip over switch. I don't know why you don't just go this route - a 9L bottle will last you a good 6 months if it's just for a cooktop.

Having said that I want to get induction because a large portion of my cooking is with liquids and induction is so much faster heating that than gas.

  • opted for the baumatic from GG, $99 at least it's a local stock backed by warranty, so far it's doing is job

  • I have one similar to this one. I use it for hotpot rather than using butane tubes.

That portable gas cooker I have is basically just sitting in the cupboard.
