  • Been waiting for this deal to come along. Shame it didn't come along after tax return time!

  • Sony tends to be overpriced compared to other brands like Samsung and LG?
I recalled I got a Samsung 55" LED LCD several years ago with a Galaxy 2 mobile for $1600…

    • Not anymore I believe.. if you read avs forums and reviews they tend to be competitive on certain models.. bought my sony 50" hx800 for $2300 with a bonus ps4 and the reviews suggested that the picture quality was better than the series 7 of the time.. $2700

  • Damn it, already bought my W900.

  • +1

time for Sony to distribute these machines around

    Are PS4s selling that poorly?

    • +1

Dont Know, but I bought a PS3 Super Slim 12Gb for $188 3rd April 2014."Upgraded it to 500Gb. Now no one seems to have it under $238. Seems like I ploy to push PS4, as most all PS3 Bundles are now only $59 shy of $458. And can I say I am loving it. So many games and great entertainment. And good price and range of games, unlike PS4

    • Worldwide, not at all. April NPD numbers are out this week, and they will show a very sizeable lead over the Xbone. Australia has been an anomaly so far, being one of the few territory's that the PS4 isn't outselling the Xbone by nearly 2:1, but everywhere else, it's dire for the Xbone and record setting for the PS4.

      • So why the promo?

        • +1

Maybe they're trying to sell more TVs?

Fourth month in a row PS4 outsold the Xbone. It's flying high. Fantastically high, even, at close to 2:1 ratio in the US. And May won't be any better for Xbone, given I image most people will now wait for the June price cut Xbone edition instead. A price cut Xbone plus the recently announced Halo 1-4 collection will be a good seller, I'm sure later this year. But I digress.

As mentioned below, maybe they're wanting to get some TVs out there? With the World Cup coming up, which is the single largest TV event every four years, they're hoping there is a bunch of people wanting to upgrade their TVs for the broadcast and were hoping to capture some them? I'm gonna try to offload my Panasonic plasma and grab the 55" UHD set, for what that is worth.

  • Crap!! I bought my new TV last month!!! Missed out again.. Though I have had a month of 65" sports awesomeness since then!!

  • Good deal if you are in the market for a new TV. I did this 6 years ago with the PS3 offer, paid $2100 for a 40" back then, TV still going strong. Back then Sony required the UPC code to be cutoff from the original shipping box and submitted for the claim.

  • I think people need to remember there are only 9000. If they wait too long for a JB sale or such, they may all be gone :(

  • Great bargain Ham.

Just don't buy any extended warranty on any Sony products. They last up to 20 years without repair!

  • +2

A good review of the uhd sony unit on hdtvtest uk.. for anyone that is interested in getting a uhd unit. (Yes it is a little expensive atm but for those who want to jump on the uhd bandwagon early)

    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kd55x9005b-201405123771.htm

    Best in class apparently.

Imo the build will probably be better than the mass produced models in the future when uhd becomes standard. (It will be bad marketing otherwise eh?)

  • Always good time to buy near EOFY (May-June) & EOY (Nov-Dec). a year and half ago I bought Sony 55HX750 for $1470 with $300 Sony prepaid VISA card effectively making $1170 final price, was my best bargain ever.

  • For anyone who interested in KDL60W850B, lowest price i can find is $2350

  • I guess they are doing this for tax benefits. Maybe they can claim the cost price of each unit as a loss.

If you calculate it for 9000 units that's over 3.5mil.

    • +1

For the opportunity cost of just over $1m (PS4 cost price), they can almost guarantee the sale of 9,000 premium TVs to Australian customers in 45 days.

      • +3

And a heap of PS4 games over the next 6 years.

        • Yep. This is all about the games.
It's all about selling a <$5 disc for $80, or these days the cost of a download for $80.

For me, I would rather get a Panasonic plasma for $1800.
Have a much better TV than the Sony and you have half the cost of the playstation saved if you still want one.

        • I don't think Panasonic make plasmas any more…

        • They stopped a few months ago.
They are currently on clearance/sale if you look around.
No more 55" at panasonic, so whatever is out there in the wild is it. Still a few 65" at panasonic (Friend from TGG inquired as they are a special order for him)

          55" VT60 $1800 - http://www.binglee.com.au/panasonic-th-p55vt60a-55-inches-fu…
          65" VT60 $3200 if you ask nicely

  • Sony stores are selling kd55x8504a for $2699, cheaper than videopro.

    Free delivery and instant PS4

    • May I ask which Sony Store? Is it available online?

      • +2

        this was at parramatta

    • Strange, aren't Sony stores operated by Videopro?

  • Which Sony TV are ppl recommending/buying?
    Thanks.

    • +1

The X9004A series if you can find one.
I picked up a KD55X9004A on Sunday for a price I couldn't refuse (just under 2.4k). This is our 2nd. Love them , picture and sound is top notch. Had a choice of a Panasonic 55vt60 ($1500) but went for the Sony.

  • im confuse. jan 2012 bought 55" LED SMART 3D LG 200mhz (not cheaper 100mhz) for $1700
but now looking at jbhifi, most 55" is $1800-2000? why prices are not cheaper?

    • Aussie dollar?

      • -3

come on why would someone buy 55" tv from overseas….
        fyi it was from goodguys

        • The TV's they sell, like Sony, come from overseas suppliers who expect to be paid in USD or yen.
Australian dollar falls in value, you need to spend more of them to get stock.
Although it's a weak argument as our dollar fell by a little less than 10%.

    • +1

Yeah I have noticed the same thing as well…prices should be going down not up…

      • -1

and i dont see any breakthrough technology/feature from 2012 till now (except the curve one but thats cosmetic i think). still full HD, 3D, smart.
        i have them all already.

        • They are UHD now. Otherwise, yeah, no difference.
          I bought a 42" LG for $799 in 2012. It was 3d, HD, smart.

        • Exactly, 55" for $2K…someone is making a lot of profit..

        • Prices should be going down if they were the same though considering that..

a)chinese standard of living have increased significantly over the past decade => higher salary
          b)Dropping AUD dollar
c)TV sales generally doing pretty badly (along with windows laptops)
          d)R&D for UHD isn't cheap I imagine
e)Changing panel designs, adding in software updates for newer models every year slowly add up in cost
f)China economy is slowing considerably (copper prices have sunk due to less demand)

TBH we have it pretty sweet compared to allot of countries (excluding US).. Branded TVS in Hong Kong are almost the same price as Australia but their wages are lower. Their rent is also quite high and property prices are cray cray expensive. Europe's 20% VAT taxes are quite bad too.

  • Any decent reviews of kd55x8504a?

  • It seems like no one really buy sony products.

  • +1

I got my lg tv 55" $1350 in late 2012 with free home delivery from dicksmith and now i cant fine any lg tv 55 under 1700
Whats going on? When you go to USA market their prices are sometimes close to half on same brands and models. Whats going ln in australia?

    • -1

nothing going on in australia lately, mate.
this has been happening since loooong time ago (we pay premium).
check news about almost everything.. ikea, food, rent, electronics, etc

    • The idea is if you can't afford to ship it here yourself, they can charge whatever they want.

Even if you can ship it here, or download it (photoshop , office), they still try to charge premium.

  • +1

still 2days passed and no one has claimed for even 1 out of 9000 units of PS4 =))

Dont rush guys no one would buy it at all

    • That is probably because today is still the weekend and I imagine they need to verify claims prior to shipping. After they ship it then maybe they'll update?

I wouldn't say noone is buying because at the place where I work at I think we've sold maybe 3-4 units over the weekend. (not a extremely high number but considering that these are 55" + units its allot)

  • new supplier new promo starts in next week or so

  • 8700 PS4s left as at 19 May.

    • Less than 7443 PS4s left as of 29 May.

*Estimated remaining stock. This counter is not 100% accurate in real time. Please purchase early to avoid disappointment.
