Spending too much time on OZB actually worth the savings?

hi guys,

just wondering if you ever get the feeling that you are spending waaaayy too much time on Ozb (checking it every 2 hours from your PC, mobile, tablet etc) just to save a few dollars? or even worse, buying things you dont actually need or use?

dont get me wrong, I love finding a cheap torch, a cheap fastfood meal, "cheaper" phone…but is the savings worth the hours spent scanning these deals? time you will never get back? time you could have spent exercising, hanging out with friends, reading a book etc….

just curious….

I get where you are coming from but I treat it as a hobby so instead of stamp collecting or photography I look up bargains. Just need to know when to stop. Actually learn so much from other Ozb members in terms of advice. I guess if I was honest with myself then I would probably say I even out. I save money compared to if I was to buy it without the ozb posting but I also buy items that I would never have considered buying like $50 torches and those dang Sanyo Eneloops

    • treat it as a hobby

This is what I try to do too but the mods start deleting posts and ban-hammering once we have too much fun. :(

    • good point, i do like the experiences people share on products etc…or how they post links to reviews on electronics

    • Yep, a big part of my being here is the advice others give in areas I know little or nothing about.

The site provides an insight into things I might need/want later.

Its a good treasure trove of information.

  • If you have an iDevice you can download the app Push and subscribe to Ozbargins. Every deal posted will give you a notification - unfortunately that means the bad ones too. Just something to consider if you're addicted and are wasting too much time on here.

Do note that NONE so called OzBargain apps on iOS or Android are affiliated with OzBargain. We didn't develop them and are not responsible for them. Alternatively you can subscribe @ozbargain at Twitter which would have all the deals, and @ozbargainhot at Twitter for front-page deals.

Another feature to use is front page email subscription. Turn that on in your subscription settings to get a new email whenever a new deal hits the front page.

      • Thank you Scotty.

Knew I was missing way too many deals (with only the daily email).
        Beam me up!
I'll never get out of here now.

        :o)

Anyone want to buy some Batteries or Torches…..

I kid you not, I bought a dozen (yes 12 exact) torches to give away as gifts, so far have only managed to give 3 away because I dont remember where I stored the other 9…. I also have 3 items of clothing that have NEVER been used and is probably out of fashion already..

Haha mid life crisis when even the Jedi cannot give away torches. That's what happens when you conquer that Dark Side, dang nabbit.

May the Force be with You! (But not those torches)

    • And head phones

  • no its definitely not worth visiting this place as far as your back pocket goes

time isnt a problem as i surf on work time

better off blocking ozbb on your $29 modem routers

problem is it alerts you to awesome deals that you spend money on that you normally wouldnt spend money on

why do i need half a dozen torches?

why do i need a bunch of modem routers?

what about the pile of cheap phones and tablets I have?

hmm nice laptop, do I need it? may as well get it since I can tax deduct it? but my current one works fine? but this one is FHD… and so it goes

    • haha, if only I could do this during work time, then it would not be a waste of time…:P

  • I have to ban myself from OB. I end up spending more money by buying all the bargains I do not need.

I love the community - not the trolls

    • I usually do the daily check, and send emails to my family of deals I think they would like (if not myself); no complaints yet. Guess I am turning into a Promotions Officer for Ozbargain.

  • Probably not. But I love it anyway

And end of financial year is nearly upon. Xmas for ozbargainers!

  • I have been thinking about this for a while now. Am I saving money or am I just spending more because I can't resist a bargain. My big items have been flights to USA and Europe for a family of 5. Yes I saved a few thousand compared to regular prices but did it really cost me or save me? Anyway I can't wait to go to Europe, thanks Mikeologos

    • you have to spend money to save money

      • I have been thinking about this from different angle. You have to spend time on ozbargain to save money. If i spent the amount of time spent at ozbargain on other things like working or investment skills, I think I would probably have been a lot richer.

  • Whatttttttt what what what what?? Ozbargain CHANGED MY LIFE!! Literally. I was so however grateful when I was sitting on the 27th floor of Novotel Hotel courtesy of the LeAccor Club Platinum deal. Or grab a bargain that none of my friend could believe. I do spend some money on ozbargain but I don't just buy something just because its cheap, but because 'some time down the track I might need it'. lol.
