  • Nice price, is this available in store as well?

  • No stock online

  • damn, just tried buying this and out of stock FFS. wasa bout to hit palce order too

  • Out of stock online. See if you can find a store and pick it up.

  • just did that and it worked. ysyyyers thanks1

    • Maxwell & Williams is okay. It is not a cheap chinese crap that you can find in kmart, but I would not call it a top quality cookware either.

      • +2

Not anymore, Maxwell & Williams was only manufactured in the UK back in the day. Over the last decade or two, they have moved to making a majority of their lines around the same quality as budget stores, maybe marginally better, but earn a massive profit because of their brand.

        • +2

I agree with Davo93 - The majority of my friends friends bought M&W crap or were given it at their weddings, and it lasted only a few months if that. I was given six M&W mugs and only two survive, the others all suffered handles that fell off, or severe chipping, even with careful use. Yet I have many cups made by other brands that are older than I am that never chipped, despite being mistreated.

My wife was given a colourful M&W tea set at the end of last year and EVERY piece broke within two weeks. The handle fell off one mug the second time she used it, nearly spilling hot tea all over her lap.

I wouldn't even say it's marginally better than budget stores. We've been given two sets of Corelle dinnerware that I believe was sold at Big W, and it's been dropped, microwaved, dishwashered, left outside for a week by accident, and none of the pieces are damaged. Yet even with careful use, M&W stuff breaks or chips.

meh, better than your target/kmart things

    • But not $8/set either

    • +1

@r3ckless - it might LOOK nicer, but it's not better. It won't last nearly as long.

  • +2

Good deal, but (omg, I am really going to say that) I don't really need it.

  • If they don't have it, you could try http://www.kitchenstyle.com.au/p219.html?utm_source=myshoppi… but not quite as cheap & plus postage.

  • +2

If you don't need the coffee cups, the 16 piece set is still available online.

$38.97 for one or $54.56 for 2 with free delivery.

  • Thanks OP!

    ordered for in store pickup

Any idea if these plates are heavy or light ?
Those who not want to buy 2 sets, they can add 3 of the "Maxwell & Williams White Basics Rice Bowl 10cm" which is $2.10 each, and that will take the total to $50 to get aditional 30%.

    • significantly heavier than corelle obviously, lighter and way better than crap stuff from target kmart etc that I have wasted similar money on before.

      I would just buy

      http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/white-basics…

with the mugs, unless you really use cups and saucers - don't remember the last time I was served tea in cup and saucers.

  • +3

I'd rather buy the Corelle dinner sets from big w.

    • +4

Totally agree with you there. I've had M&W plates and cups shatter and break in my hand. Yet I've seen Corelle plates fall off a table onto concrete and bounce, and they're fine after.

      • how much are corelle sets?

        • -1

Unfortunately it would seem Big W don't stock them anymore. End of last year they had a few sets you could still buy online only, but now they only have three fairly random pieces left. Pity.

        • any recommendations for sets or places to find them?

i think I remember seeing corelle at the outlets like at birkenhead point

        • +1

Um I bought 2 sets last weekend in doncaster. $49 to $79 depending on design.

        • Yep,

I bought the plates and bowls I needed, corelle brand, from Kmart.

The good thing is they sell individual pieces, so you only buy what you need.

    Double that for Corelle

    http://forums.vogue.com.au/showthread.php?t=349213

I just found this thread where a DJs employee admits that many M&W sets have problems - I'll copy and paste the explanation:
"The MW rep was telling me that it occurs because the factory is in China in a rural area near a big city (either Beijing or Shanghai) and when the city runs low of electricity the govt simply shuts down power to anyone in that area as it is not in the actual city. So if this happens when the plates in the kiln and the power shuts down the temp drops and affects the quality of the glazing on some of the plates. Unfortunately they produce so many plates in one go and because not all are effected they still export all the stock. Hope this makes sense!"

So maybe Davo93 and I had similar experiences, and our friends all received faulty stock. Others who are quite happy with M&W stuff probably received stock that was properly fired in the kiln to the correct temperature for the correct time, so it would of course last much longer. Unfortunately having a piece or two replaced under warranty would no doubt have been replaced with the same faulty stock, as they would deliver hundreds of thousands of pieces in each batch and only make more when numbers are low.

I'll still steer clear of it.

Looks like special pricing has expired though 30% off over $50 is still valid though it still ends up being twice as expensive.

  • +3

I have a few M&W plates and glasses….while not a bad deal at all for $45 for 20-pieces, Corelle still has the edge when it comes to the quality of the glazing.

  • Because it's "tempered glass"?!

  • so is this set worth getting or better to find a corelle deal?

Literally just saw a TV ad on channel GEM for CORELLE. if you google the name a lot of online stores stock this brand so does eBay.

Just picked the last two from Parramatta Westfields. The lady charged me $90 so not sure what's going on there. Will go back tomorrow to confirm.

EDIT: Just checked the David Jones website again and the 30% ribbon ad thing is no longer there so it looks like they just removed that promotion a few hours ago today

  • +1

better value to buy dinner sets with coffee mugs and plates instead of cup and saucer which you can quite often get for $20 a set rather than pay $45 for a set that you will only half use

  • +1

I purchased but my wife did not like it, now thinking of returning it

  • Went to the Sydney CBD DJ store and the lady was like, so many pp lare picking up this exact same set…. hehehe

  • i have an order ready to pickup at parramatta but i'll be cancelling it as I'm going to go with corelle instead,

realised we already have corelle at home

  • china or italy made ?

Ordered Sunday night. Got a call from local DJ yesterday saying that they ran out of stock, even though the website said in stock for that store. Not happy… Are stock levels for click and collect not live?
