Slightly cheaper on aliexpress, but nice and small.

      • +5

it can't fry your ECU. It sits on the CAN bus which is fully protected from over-voltages and short circuits.

I've got one that looks exactly like the one in the pic, but I paid closer to $20 because I bought it locally :)

The only bad thing about it is there's no power button, so it draws power all the time (in other words, I wouldn't recommend leaving it in your car 24/7, especially if you leave the car off for a week… or you'll probably end up with a flat battery).

I use mine with the Torque app on Android. Works with my FG Mk2 G6 and my girlfriend's holden barina spark.

From what I've been told if you have an iPhone you need the wifi version of this, not the bluetooth one.

    • +1 to this, handy tool, but unplug it when you turn your car off (+1 for Torque as well).

  • +3

Bought this one from aliexpress. It did not last long enough for me to pair it with my android phablet. I tool it off the obd port and could smell fried components. Complained and got full refund. Bought another one (waiting on delivery) with on/off button. See how that goes.

    • so does that mean you would need to turn if off/on everytime you get out of/into the car???? Is there anything that would auto turn on/off?

  • +13

Wow - it comes with a CD Drive!

  • Had mine plugged in for months now. (No battery problems, as yet)
I access it every now and then to turn off the "Engine Check Light"…
And check that nothing else is wrong with the car.
(Apart from something that is not worth fixing)

    • +5

Hi, I would be a bit wary of leaving it plugged in all the time, not because of any battery drain, but it leaves your car a bit prone to hacking attempts via bluetooth, especially if a default bluetooth pairing code was used. I could be wrong on this, but I think it is actually possible to change car settings via the OBD port (as they do in some engine remap chips, or some fault code clearing software).

      • They're all password 0000 by default I think. Now get scanning!

      • really what are the odds?

  • +1

There was some mad demand for this kind of device on Kickstarter:
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obdsol/obdlink-mx-wifi-a…

Kickstarter probably has slightly more features. Glad i didn't get one tho.

    • +5

Just check the price $99 bucks for that kickstarter OBD module…!

A lot of the China sourced ones are knockoffs of ELM and not subject to the same rigorous quality control. I got stung when my purchase of one from eBay for a 2004 X-Trail turned out to be incompatible despite being on the list of compatible vehicles

For the record the seller ceedlim wouldn't offer a new unit and got into feedback extortion territory when after 6 messages he offered a 30% refund only if I left positive feedback. Needless to say I didn't, and in reply to my feedback alleged I'd never got in contact.

    • +2

Same. Didn't buy from this seller, but did buy this exact unit for an X-Trail after it was listed as compatible, however support seems to be limited to engine error codes and that's it.

    • +3

why didn't you escalate it to a paypal claim, that's what I do with all those dodgy chinese sellers

      • Couldn't be bothered for how little I'd spent on it. I did report the feedback extortion to eBay and drop their name in the mud whenever appropriate.

  • Have this exact unit from eBay. Works great with Torque Pro app on Android. Just wouldn't leave it plugged in unless you're actually using it.

  • +1

I bought a standard one a couple years ago but it was too long and touched my leg while driving. This small one should fit well.

Yes,We ship to India. And it will take about 20-30 days for the package to arrive to India.:)

  • any issue with bluetooth on this item to pair with iOS device (iPhone/iPad)?
also what is the recommended iOS app(s) to use with this?

    • +1

iOS requires WiFi ELMs, except for Go Point's BT1 and Dash Boss will work via BT. In both cases they are far more expensive than these generic ELM WiFi modles you can get of ebay etc…
Just search OBD in the app store to see what you can get. Plenty of free ones to try. Dash Command is very popular.

      • thanks heaps.

  • Works very well with the smartphone app Torque and/or Torque Pro. Unfortunately not available from Amazon App Store so you will have to use your coins elsewhere.

Has saved me more than once when Check Engine light came on and car stuck in limp mode.

  • +3

needed one of these things last year, but opted for local due to time constraints
grabbed one of these for $15 locally, next day shipping: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/390787993335
    also grapped torque app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torq…
(note there is a feature limited free version also). Used on Sammy S3.
Resolved engine management light issue - bought required part on Amazon for $170 when local auto mobs wanted $500 for part + fitting (which was about as simple as changing a spark plug).

if delivery speed is not your issue, then this deal is a goer.

    • Geez what part is that? Makes me want to buy one just so I know what is wrong and that the mechanics can't pull a fast one over my eyes.

I am sure if you point out what is wrong and then point out the price differential they would come to the party. Who says no to money hopefully not those guys.

Knowledge is power when it comes to repairs I always found. If you know what you are talking about they can't just shaft you around.

Edit: You get a vote for that comment and making me buy one of these.

  • just order one. thanks op ! hope it will work with my 2005 Jeep Cherokee Renegade.

  • Does it support:

    Ford Falcon AU Forte (1999)?
    Honda Jazz 2003?

    Can anyone please confirm?
    Thanks

    • +5

Google “Ford Falcon AU Forte obd” & “Honda Jazz 2003 obd” says yes.
Sometimes it’s the simplest things that work.

    • +1

Yeah, snuke is right.I have confirmed it for you.It supports Ford Falcon AU Forte (1999) and Honda Jazz 2003.:)

    • +1

I bought a similar one from ebay and it did NOT work for my au2 falcon. Worked fine in my fiesta. Pretty sure au falcon is not supported. Note this is obd2 not obd.

      • Bad news!
Already ordered for AU falcon :-(

    • Careful. AU come in 3 different series. Understand that Series 3 works, and maybe series 2!

  • Does anyone know if this will this work on a 2003 BMW Z4.

Trying to do some quick research before I miss the sale.

    • +1

These ELM OBD2 scanners worked fine on any post 2000 BMW's I've tested on.
I'm sure the Z4 would be the same.

      • pity about my classic e30 tho - who thought the massive 20pin port in the center of the engine bay was a good idea??
I set up a lead with gator clips - the 20 pin port is stupidly pricey.

      • Thanks guys. Ordered. Can't wait to start tinkering!

    • Every car sold in the US after 1996 has one, so if it is an international car, after 1996 you're safe.

      • +1

every car sold after 1996 have the port. but may or may not work with this device.
does not work on my 2001 Nissan 200sx. (aus stock not grey import.)

        • I did edit my comment to reflect it was US after 1996, so if it was sold in the US after 96 then all good. Not sure why my edited version doesn’t show.

        • Hi five for having the same car as me Rusty!

      • My fiancee has a 1997 Hyundai (she has been offered newer cars, just loves her car) and it has the 12 pin Mitsubishi OBD port, so no, thats not true at all. I found out the hard way that this is a myth. That said its still compatible with an adapter.

    • This item will definitely work on a 2003 BMW Z4.:)

      • Thanks rep. I will be learning how to use this while I wait for delivery.

        • Yeah!You are so wise.:)

  • +2

It's been a standard in all cards made in the US since 1999 but it wasn't law in Australia until 2006 so any card made before 2006 may not have it. That is to say, they may have the connector but the connector may not be activated.

    • Hi zeto87,

I'm happy to know everything goes well with your order. Please enjoy!:)

  • This is probably a stupid question but what does this little monster do in a car?

    • Diagnostic tool - sends OBDii data to a device over bluetooth, such as an Android phone, so that you can see the data in real time, or log it. Great for everyday tinkering and great for the common man to know what his car is saying (when it flashes error codes) before taking it to a mechanic and hearing their interpretation.

Reminds me of a certain whirlpool entertaining thread about a used 1996 Mercedes c200…

    Ahh wait here it is:

Wonder what car the OP drives now though.

  • Support for 06 Subaru forester Xt (turbo)??

    • Hi 1968,

Do you have a OBD2 interface in your car? This item works with all OBD-II compliant vehicles.

    • This will work for your model - i own an 06 wrx and 09 XTP and this works fine.
      might just show less.

HOWEVER if you ever get the CEL displaying due to the secondary air pump on everything 06 and up, this wont remove the CEL for that reason.

    • Hey 1968,

I have confirmed it with our professional staff. It supports for 06 Subaru forester Xt (turbo).:)

For those with RACV it may be interesting to compare this to their new OBD device:

    http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/racv/internet/primary…

It is $20 for those with Total Care Roadside assist. If you are on anything less it costs more and you could pay an annual fee, but the subscription is more for the app which syncs with the device and has traffic updates etc.

Probably the most useful thing about the app is that it shows the fuel prices at all of the petrol stations within a 10 km radius of your location.

    • I'm guessing this is a better choice for iPhone users?

  • Essential for anyone who owns a WRX. Notorious for "Check Engine" light

  • Does it work on a BMW X5 2006 E53 and a HSV R8 2001?

    • While waiting for the answer, just bought one anyway. Thanks. A plus from me.

    • Hi jd,

      Yes,both will work.:)

  • Does any one know if this will work with either Toyota Prius C (2012) or Corolla hatchback (2006)?
