    Ok unless I can be proven wrong, I'm going to say that

    This ELM327 is a clone/fake

    Did a bit of digging around and found that there is no v1.5 as stated in the newfrog item description.

    That'll teach me to do research only after buying something.. :/

    Early days I know, but has anyone received a notification of their item being posted. All I received was a Paypal receipt and not sure if there was meant to be any other order confirmation?

    The newfrog image of the device does tend to match the appearance of the genuine/working item (or the one in that particular video at least), however what we receive may not match the image. Apparantly the clones are using an older version 1.0 of the firmware and simply spoofing a new version code onto it, but still operating with the limitations and bugs of V1.0

    Fingers crossed that it at least works when it arrives.

          Well I received a PM on OZBargain from store rep telling me it had been shipped, however its a little bit generic and doesn't really tell me exactly when, just that it has been shipped within 48 hours of payment. Its now 3 days since ordering and no actual "order shipped" email from Newfrog so will wait a few more days and then see if there is any movement.

    I've just looked into this after seeing gerard48 saying they had received theirs. I only ever received an email from PayPal confirming the payment, nothing more. Were there shipment notifications or anything?

      Received mine today as well, pretty good shipping time really. I also only received the paypal receipt initially and had to get them to check that it had actually been shipped. I reckon yours will turn up soon.

      Mine seems to work ok with my 2008 T31 Xtrail petrol. Used it with Torque app on Android about 5 mins ago as a test and connected fine. Handy little tool to keep in the glovebox in case I need to check fault codes on the road or something. I dont think I'll leave it plugged in all the time just in case somebody decided to hack it in a carpark or something (although I dont think it can really connect if car is switched off).

      Will also be a nice little cheap addon to help sell the car when we decide to do so "You're telling me you can check diagnostics via your phone??? That's frikken awesome… like laserrrs awesome…. SOLD."

    I've used this on a Ford FG, good wee unit that works well but note that you cant leave it plugged in all the time because you have to remove a cover and when the OBD is plugged in the cover doesnt fit

    For whoever is worried about this not being the genuine ELM chip… it is not.

    In one of the earlier versions of the original device the PIC microcontroller fuses were mistakenly left unlocked. This meant that the firmware could be read and programmed to an identical chip. All cheap copies use this old firmware. I can't remember exactly but I think it was version 1.0.
    Often the firmware numbers are modified to match the real ELM firmware or even to a higher number that was never released by ELM. Someone already mentioned that this is v1.5 which was never released by ELM.

    Mr Rep, at what point do you consider an item lost and either re-send or refund? I know there's still a chance it will show and believe me, this is the outcome I want but I also think it's time to start considering what to do if it doesn't show up.

    Hi. Received mine earlier in the week and tried to connect tonight.
    It seems to be dead. There are no lights blinking on the unit and the Android Bluetooth does not detect the unit.
    It is for a 03 Toyota Landcruiser V8. The ELM327 workS on this vehicle as other people I know use them on the same make, model and year.
    I have also tried it on a Mazda6 2006, same result. No lights on the unit or detection by bluetooth
    Any ideas?

          Sorry for this matter.

          Normally all Android phone's users just need to copy the "TOPQUE of android"(the software on the CD Drive)to the phone,then open this app on your phone for connection.

          After that,all the LED lights will be lit up at the first time of usage.Then the green LED will flash once,red light will also flash once.The red led will flash once and turn off,the green LED will light up all the time when the device starts working.

          If you have installed the "TOPQUE of android",and doesn't have any lights,it is most likely that the item itself is not working.Thus we will issue full refund to you.

          The app is Torque, not Topque which from what I can see above, you already have.

          The free version has some limitations one of which is that it won't work with diesels from what I understand. There's several apps out there but I believe that Torque is the one the rep is referring to and the one most people use.

          I'd tell you more but my device still hasn't arrived so I have to go by what I've read and what others have said thus far.

          One last thing, make sure you have bluetooth enabled on your phone, probably sounds silly but if you don't use BT for anything else you may well have it switched off to save a bit of battery or the phone may be running a power saving plan and has it disabled or something like that, worth checking.

          I suppose that's Torque as well, bluetooth is on and is it also says on torque application that "OBD OK" or sort of indication, but no indication of any readings or lights from OBD is observed.

          Hi
          Thank you for the information. I have loaded the Android version of Torque from the supplied CD but it has made no difference. There is no Bluetooth connection. I have BBluetooth turned on as well as having the phone set to discoverable. The phone does not pick up any signal from the OBD device. I have the car running as well.
          I tried to connect via the settings page in the app but that made no difference
