Anyone considering the 20m mechpro water hose reel in this catalogue - beware its total rubbish.

    • strange that ive seen people on OzB say that before about both there water and air reels. i have an air real that i couldnt be happier about and around the same time i happened to pop into an autotune and they had something like 6 of them mounted to the roof in different parts of there workshop and were using them at the time (so obviously none were "broken") and they were all very dusty/dirty giving the impression they had been up there quite some time.

can you explain the problem with yours? i wonder if its people not understanding how the ratchets inside them work and stripping them because of improper use

      • I don't know about the air hose, I have only had the water reel.

I just threw the third one they have given me in the bin, I can't be bothered taking it back anymore. Basically it reels in whenever you don't want it to then other times it jams so you can't use it.

        • youve had 100% failure rate for 3? were they like this straight out of the box or did it take a little time between failures?

i find it very hard to believe you have had so many issues unless it was a batch problem.

        • 100%.. sort of.

No 1 was broken when I received it, no 2 lasted a month or two, no 3 lasted the longest. No 3 was broken for a while but still usable until just recently when it wouldn't reel out so I ripped it off the wall and threw it in the bin.

    • Thanks for the advice, I'll keep saving for a hoselink one…

5 pce finger ratchet is a good price (first page, $10)

  • For anyone wondering, the Repco branded socket sets or tools in general are pretty damn good quality. Best bang for buck tools. I know a few mechanics who if they don't use Snap-on, they will use the Repco tools.

    • Are they better or equivalent to Sidchrome?

      Too bad they don't have a set with 1/4, 3/8, & 1/2 sized drivers.
That would have sealed the deal for me

      • They seem like a better build quality, I was in the same dilemma and was convinced Repco by far was better. They also should still have a Lifetime Warranty on the Repco tools.

        • Yup, lifetime warranty was what did it for me when I purchased my set of tools.

      • IMO the same league as Sidchrome. Someone told me once, but I don't know how true it is - that Sidchrome and Repco tools are made in the same factory in Taiwan. Just that Repco won't give you the run around if you break a tool

        • Sidchrome and Repco tools are made in the same factory in Taiwan

thats one of the worst sales pitches they use unfortunately. dont believe everything you hear and dont buy into the lie and certainly dont spread something unless you have some better foundation than "i heard this thing once somewhere"

as for sidchrome v repco branded tools, sidchrome are crap these days. its quite easy to break even there bigger sized sockets so ive found out a few times the hard way just by using them normally. repco is certainly (at least) one up these days.

  • Is the 'Fits All' socket set useful? Good price, but I already have a good selection of sockets and spanners.

    • Whats the difference between the fits all and a normal socket set?

  • These mathematics don't make sense to me.

    "Save up to 50% … $29.99 SET (Save $81)" ???????

    "$159 (Save $193 / 50%)" ?????

That said, I'm thinking of getting the $159 socket and spanner set today. Anyone give me a reason not to?

    • I know its weird, not sure if misprint, I just cut and pasted from their website.
