Jordans Crispy Oat Clusters or Granola Cereal 500g $3.50

Damn, thought it was going to be for shoes.

  • I wanna know - when a box of cereal is $7 at Coles, presumably Coles is making approximately 50% on that. So Coles makes $3.50, and "Jordans" makes $3.50.

If there is a 50% off sale, and it sells retail for $3.50, do both Coles and Jordans take a cut, or just one of them?

I know it's in Jordans' interest to take a (small?) cut on profits and they sell more (and maybe get some new customers to try it), and it's in Coles interest to take a profit hit and get more people through their turnstiles, but are Coles and Woolies big and bad enough to bully the company like Jordans into a MUCH lower profit share just for exposure to more customers?

PS - I bought a couple of varieties to try them out!

One of my past clients was a rep for a multinational selling to Coles etc. To get catalog & sales exposure, the distributer, definitely not the supermarket, took the cut. End of shelf exposure etc cost extra. Coles was said to be the most difficult to deal with - extracting the most from distributors. (My task was teaching the client skills used in negotiating the best deal for her company.)

      • Maybe the best skill you could have taught them was to bend over and take it from the supermarket?

        (Pretty difficult to "negotiate" with)

  • Fat: 13.4% (Raisin), 15.6% (Raspberry, Strawberry) 22.9% (Nut) which is quite high!
