SCM - RRP $349 Blackstar HT1 1 Watt All Valve Guitar Amplifier 8″ Speaker - Only $248 Delivered Ozwide!
Blackstar HT1 - The ultimate bedroom jamming amp! Huge sound with a tiny price!

The Blackstar HT-1 guitar amplifier is based on the HT-5, just in a smaller footprint, lower output (heh!…a happy wife is a happy life..nudge, nudge…!) and with a reduced control set. From the front, the HT-1 looks like a scaled-down version of the HT5, with the virtually identical black cabinet and grille cloth, gold piping, and the bold, white block lettering proudley bearing the Blackstar logo. The HT-1 also features a custom designed 8" speaker and we would expect nothing less.

The Blackstar HT1 measures 308mm x 305mm x 172mm and is so compact that you have to look twice to realize it’s packing an 8" speaker making it a true, self-contained combo.

The amp itself features two channels, clean and overdrive. Overdrive is implimented via a pushbutton switch…simple. The other front panel controls consist of just three knobs: Gain, Volume and EQ/ISF (Infinite Shape Feature. There’s a single 6.3mm (1/4") phono input, plus two additional 6.3mm (1/4") phono jacks for Emulated Output & Headphones and MP3/Line Input. It's interesting that Blackstar went with the 6.3mm ( 1/4") jack here, rather than the more consumer-oriented 3.5mm (1/8") mini…it simply means that you can use the Blackstar HT-1 to accept other preamp outputs, from sources other than a guitar (such as a keyboard, drum machine, or vocal processor).

The power switch and indicator LED complete the top panel’s control scheme.

On the back is not only the expected 240V AC IEC power cable port, but also a pleasant surpris…for an amp in this price range at least…an extension speaker jack that accepts any cabinet with an impedance of 4 to 16 ohms. This is quite handy in a recording amp, as it allows the performer to keep the control panel close by (say, in the control room or in front of a computer) while the speaker of choice is placed in another location for optimal acoustics and mic'ing.

    Reviews seem solid:

For those unaware, Blackstar was founded by ex-Marshall engineers in the UK. Produces most of its stuff in Korea. Dimmu Borgir, Gus G & Opeth have endorsed their stuff.

I'm quite tempted to pair this with my Epiphone Les Paul Special II; as that came with a rubbish amp.

  • Are you sure this is only 1watt RMS? Usually amps this size are about 20 to 30watts rms

    • +1

It is 1W. Speaker size and wattage don't really correlate.

    • +3

Garbage amps are, yeah. But that's usually 20 to 30 watts of god-awful, distorted sound. Same principle mini-Hi Fi manufacturers use when marketing their products; impressive peak power, but atrocious THD and distortion.

This is a valve amp and it's very clean.

It's not a boom box, it's for faithfully reproducing guitar notes, which is what counts when you're practicing. An amp of this size you don't lug to gigs or anything like that.

    • yeah what amar said. thats why you see most valve amps around 300ish watts, and solid states around 600, sometimes even over the 1000s, yet the valve amps still keep up/surpass them.

Hello Jackson, Yes it certainly is but it is all valve so quality amplification and powerful for 1 watt:

    Specs:

    Innovative 1 Watt valve combo
    1xECC83 and 1xECC82
    Unique push-pull power amp design
    Based on award winning HT-5
    Two channels
    8" speaker

    Some background on BLACKSTAR:

"Two electronic design engineers (who happened to also be musicians) decided that they would leave the relatively secure environs of Marshall Amplification and strike out on their own…which they did. Fast forward a few short years later and you have the surprise (not surprisingly) success story of Blackstar Amplification. The secret of course is that the two chaps designing Blackstar's range of amplifiers and pedals had also designed some of the most popular professional valve guitar amplifiers of the last twenty years."

  • Any deal on the 1R Reverb version?

    • +2

      Hello,

Yes - To keep our Ozbargain followers happy I have lowered the price on the HT1R Reverb model too, to a runout clearance price also. I must stress that stocks are very limited on both amps. You can view the Blackstar HT-1R Reverb model at our clearance price here:

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

God I want this….but I'm trying to save money :(

  • just bought, good deal!

  • i used to have one of these, it can almost keep up with a (metal) drummer.
it is hearable along with the drum player but drums just overpower it slightly.
    but awesome sounding amp.

  • i bought the HT1R combo last year for $270 when the aus dollar was lower than it is today. Id go the reverb unit if you can stretch it. Shop around

  • D'oh… i caved to temptation and ordered the HT-1 earlier this arvo thinking i can just use a pedal for reverb. the HT-1R would be sweet, hopefully they let me swap the order.

    • Hello,
You can private msg me or email me through the store website email and I can arrange the reverb for you no problems.

      Cheers

      • Thanks Rep, i've sent an email through the website and it's being arranged… thanks

        • good move. you wont regret it. The small blackstars generally dont take too well on individual pedals i found. They're ok on mutli-FX however. Might be something to do with the better impedance input levels on the mutli-fx unit.
