Free Coffee! Whooop whooop whooooooop whooop!

From the article published earlier this week:

"After four years of fieldwork in the coffee, tea and flower sectors in Ethiopia and Uganda, where they gathered 1,700 survey responses and conducted more than 100 interviews, the SOAS researchers found people living in ordinary rural communities enjoyed a higher standard of living than seasonal and casual agricultural workers who received an apparently subsidised wage for producing Fairtrade exports. Women’s wages were especially low among producers selling into Fairtrade markets, according to the researchers."

Its unfair trade coffee for me then (!)

    Damn, just got this email…

    Hi,

You should have received the following emails from us earlier today:
    - an email from faircoffeeshop confirming your order of a free coffee sample, as well as
    - an email from coffee campaign confirming your registration.
Unfortunately we have to cancel all orders received after 11.00 am EAST and will delete registration for the following reason:

Our web site was obviously spammed at the time of your order by a robot. We have made a few random enquiries and contacted or tried to contact people who ordered a free sample. Unfortunately, none of them seemed to be genuine which made us to decide to cancel all orders that were received since 11am today. If your enquiry / order was genuine, please accept our sincere apologies, and hopefully you understand our decision.

You can rest assured that your privacy is fully protected. We will be implementing a new spam protection system in the next few days and will let you know more details in due course. All your contact details will be deleted in our database.

We are an ethical business supporting Timorese coffee farmers and hope that you will be support us in our efforts to do so in the future. More info on our web site.

Again, our apologies for the cancellation. Orders received before 11.00 am EAST will not be affected.

    Cheers,
    Bernd

      Hmm, me too.
I think they are just trying to get out of supplying so many free samples.
      OzB is popular these days.

      • Yep. This happens way too often. Covering their asses.

    • +1

      I received the same email.

I sent a reply advising him my request was legitimate.

      Let's see what happens.

      • Don't hold your breath.

        • +1

I didn't hold my breath. 5 days without breathing and I'd have real problems.

But good news, the sample beans did arrive today in the mail. :)

      • Doing the same thing

      • SUCCESS!

        Hi,

Thanks for your feed back and my apologies again for what happened.

The web site got spammed before and we put measures in. After the incident yesterday, I randomly checked a few registrations by calling them: phone number disconnected, wrong number, hanging up. Plus a few registration emails bounced letting me think they were fake, too. Maybe I should have tried a few more.

I will post you a free sample of ground coffee.
Sorry again for the hick-up and thanks for your honest feed back.

        Best regards
        Bernd

        • I sent a direct email as well and received the exact same reply so will see if a sample arrives!

        • Haha, same here!

    • Sorry to hear that.

Don't be ridiculous. Why would a robot spam their page for coffee? Robots don't even drink coffee!

  • +3

Lol at "obviously spammed by a robot". They were not prepared…

  • Doh! My order was genuine also!!! Oh well…

    • Ok…so I got one of those emails sent to my company email which was genuinely fr the office to try…hmm, but I have not got one of those emails for my hotmail account…crossing fingers.

      • As in the email, it all depends on when you ordered.

        Edit:
        People still use Hotmail?

  • +2

I resent being called a robot, the coffee is probably as bitter as their email anyway.

  • I cal BS on the spam. Registration had a captcha gate.I was quite excited about some free whole beans. Fair coffee shop can go jam it up their [censored].

  • Received sample today :)

  • Me too!

    Hopefully tastes good.
Hopefully they live up to all their feel good buzz words.
