  • Can anyone vouch for the quality of these? I bought a cheap one a while ago from somewhere else and it stuffed up all the time. 2 things I'm looking for are decent quality video (Good enough to read the plates) and also that it's reliable.

Ive ordered 2 of these from 2 different places in the past week - yet to receive but the reviews of the G1W series are very good (for the price)

The G1WH is the 2014 version of the G1W.

There is also a G1W-C version for around $20 more than this price, that includes capacitor instead of battery. Batteries do not last as well in hot climates/cars. The battery/capacitor is there to save the video file properly without corruption when the power is lost (eg car turned off).

Good resources, which feature the G1W or G1WH:

      • Sounds good! Thanks for that mate I think I'll pick one up. :)

      • I have this exact model and it has performed extremely well for the price ($60 when I got it).
Picture quality is great (9/10), sound is average (7/10).
My only niggle is that the display screen HAS to turn on. The shortest timeout is 3 minutes, so for the first 3 minutes of any drive, you'll be a little distracted… Hopefully I can ignore it soon.

        • Agree with the screen timeout being annoying. Mine is 90% tucked behind my mirror so only the bottom of the screen is showing, during the day I don't seem to notice it but at night I do, would be nice if you could have it always off, or flick on for ~5sec just to see that it has powered up/started recording, then turn the screen off.

        • Use black duct tape to blank it out?

      • I have the G1W-C and cant fault it for the price. Would definitely recommend the camera.

        • How long took you to receive it from foxoffer?

          Assumed you bought from them.

        • I think it was like 3ish weeks. Very slow delivery.

        • About a month or so for mine to arrive from foxoffer.

        • Reviews are mixed on Amazon, what is your experience on the negative comments that were made?

          http://www.amazon.com/G1W-C-1080P-H-264-Capacitor-Model/dp/B…

        • My G1WH from FoxOffer arrived yesterday (ordered 19th, arrived 30th, so 11 days) which was much faster than I expected.

I have a G1WH, quality is excellent no problem reading plates during the day - night time the plates can be a bit hit and miss due to lighting - on a well lit road no dramas, but if you're only able to read them in your headlights then there will likely be too much glare to read them from the camera (if you're offset it seems better, and when stopped you can read the plates of a car right in front of you, but straight behind them and a couple of car lengths/moving doesn't seem to work).

Also note some people say the audio is crap - on mine it's nice and clear (if I don't have my music up you can hear the indicator click), I've also heard some people with crap audio have improved it by updating the firmware of the camera, so may be worth keeping in mind if you do get one that's not overly clear.

  • hi OP, which cmos sensor does this use?

    From the description:

" If you are a self-driving travelling lover, you can use it to record the process of conquering difficulties and obstacles, which is meaningful. "

It is very meaningful to be a travelling lover..

Thanks Greenie, I have just bought 1 from Gearbest with the coupon code.

    • Has anyone bought from GearBest before ? I couldnt find much info about them..

Their Facebook page only has 1300 likes - BangGood has 79,000 likes.

    Will not use Tmart again.

Bought 2 quadcopters from them during their last deal. Packaging was terrible, one arrived DOA. Sent them pictures, videos, proof it wasn't working. They were full of excuses, couldn't get my youtube link to work, etc etc. I kid you not we had close to 40 emails back and forth with them giving me the run around. Promised to reimburse shipping, then after sending it off they say whoops we can only pay part of it. Such a waste of time and horrible customer service. No problems with dx and banggood, would rather use them.

In the middle of a paypal dispute now. YMMV.

I was going to order one but I might see how this pans out first

      • Already PMed. Still waiting for a response…

  • Tmart.
I've had three orders with them. Two took over two months to arrive. The third didn't arrive at all (they at least refunded that one). And if you check past deals, users report similar experiences.

Prefer to spend $10 more from a reputable ebayer and get it within a respectable time.
Speaking as someone who loves their Hong Kong orders :D

Why max at 32Gb ? has anyone test it with 64GB ?

    • how much recording time will 32Gb give you?

      • not enough… i'm currently looking for one that to replace my abee v31 which wont take my sammy pro 64gb no matter how i partition and format it! btw - roughly 1 hour ~ 4gb

        • "Supports: SD Card (Up to 32GB)"

          Does it support 64GB?

        • Don't think it supports SDXC format.

        • Why isn't 8 hours of recording time enough (at 4GB per hr)? Doesn't it record in a loop anyway?

        • 4Gb per hour means 8 hours per full write cycle for a 32GB card. Normally Flash memory has about 10,000 write cycle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory). Meaning that is will record 80,000 hours before failing. If we drive/record 1 hour a day, that gives us 80,000 days = 219 years. By that time, we might be able to travel back in time to change the SD card.

Of course the larger the better. If I can, I would like to review the footage to know where I went last month.

      • I have a Kingston 32GB class10 card (cost $19 from uMart) in my G1WH and it says:

1080p = 5 hrs 24 mins recording time (fps not specified, guess 30fps)

        720p @ 60fps = 4 hrs 55 mins
        720p @ 30fps = 9 hrs 12 mins

For now I will leave mine set at 720p/30fps to get 9 hours which is most of my driving week.

I have 1080p driving tests from today - will compare with 720p (yet to test) and decide from there.

      from http://dashcamtalk.com/g1w/

" 64 GB Micro SDXC Cards

One of our members has successfully formatted a Samsung Micro SDXC Pro 64GB Class 10 Card with the G1W. You will need to use the Guiformat tool to format the card in FAT32."

dunno if that is proof positive :P

Thanks greenie424 got one & code worked, nice price at $46 AUS. Also thanks to highon2str & sasquire re the warnings about Tmart, I stayed well away.

  • FYI you can install various other model firmware onto the G1WH to get nicer looking menus or extra options.

    http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/g1wh-can-take-firmware-…

I just installed the "Shadow GT300W 1306180-SC-2" firmware as recommended in the thread, and it seems fine.
