Cheaper than previous deal! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/132978.

Cost me A$354 to ship to Sydney using the $25 discount coupon (located on the product page below the price - thanks to tif1607 and bsbozzy). Nice!

Description copied from previous deal.

The Neato is arguably the best robot vacuum along with the LG Roboking. Unlike the Roomba (aka ping pong), they plot a cleaning pattern. They do however sometimes suffer from build quality issues, but parts are readily available and there is a massive Whirlpool thread for support. Apparently a laptop charger will solve the US to AU power issue.

The Amazon cart price is US$352.88 (updated as per 2nd June 2014) including delivery and I used XE to convert to AU$

Neato XV-21 Pet and allergy automatic vacuum, charging base, boundary marker
Features: Powerful cleaning system specially designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers
High performance vacuum removes all kinds of dirt and cleans all floors: carpets, rugs, hardwood, laminates, tile, and stone
Schedule automatic cleanings while you're away via simple user interface
Automatically returns to charging base when vacuuming is concluded

This is a brilliant product. I got the refurb from another US online store with freight forwarding for about $300. This is a steal for a brand new one.

    • Should i need to buy a 'us to au adapter' for the vacuum?

      • +1

Yeah, just a $2 one is fine. You don't need anything that converts voltage.

      • You can also just use an Australian cord to the power brick (a three pointed laptop one).

  • +7

This is my the best investment so far… Saves a lot of time.. Excellent product.

    • +2

Can second that. Bought it from aimtofind.com when this model was launched in June 2012. Best investment ever!

      Very good price!

  • Bargain price for this powerful vacuum, helped me reduce my manual vacuuming time.

  • If you picked "AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping (averages 9-12 days)", total comes down to $US 332.88

  • Love my Neato!!

  • Thanks OP.

  • I would suggest to read the 3 stars reviews before buying. The stuck wheel problem could be an issue when buying from US

Change to $US and standard shipping and use your 28 degrees mastercard/equivalent for $354 AU shipped.

      Ozbargainer #NEVERSETTLE

      • +2

Damn, I should have done that. I even used the 28 degrees card anyway - I was assuming it'd come off the card as $US anyway - even though it displayed as $AUD.
I'll do better next time Ozbargain..

  • So, for all the Neato users out there, how well do these handle indoor Pet issues like wet fur balls, the occasional pile of vomit and the even less occasional poo? Most importantly, how do these handle long, super lightweight cat fur?

We have two indoor Norwegian Forest Cats that have very long, luxuriously soft 'cotton wool' type fur that even the best designed vacuum head can't handle too long before having to spend 30 minutes pulling apart to chop the fur out of the wheel bearings. We have been very cautious of jumping into buying a 'high quality' (read: high priced) robotic vacuum and have tried a mid-range cheapo just to see how it can cope and it worked OK but after only running for 10-15 minutes the bearings were bound up.

If this Neato is in fact designed for pets then how does it combat the fur problem and how does it know to dodge the nasty parcels of goop that are part of having pets indoors?! I still have grave fears of recreating the obviously fake yet not-so-far-from-the-truth video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRzHaD5bg2s

    • +1

You didn't find the original link to the REAL version:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbOqsp3oUQI

      • +1

I've seen that too… but the production values in the 'fake' one are far better :P

… but seriously, can these so-called 'Pet' versions deal with the issues mentioned above? Anyone?!

        • I have one of these… pet hair is fine - I use it with two dogs (both short haired) and a cat.

I certainly wouldn't be using it to clean up poo or vomit or anything wet though.

    • +1

It works just as well as the dyson animal vacs. Depends whether you want systematic smearing (Neato), random smearing (roomba) or design your own (dyson/Miele).

Seriously, if this is a problem, either train your dog to poop outdoors or eat up after itself.

    • Been looking at getting a robo-vacuum…hadn't considered the vomit-smearing aspect at all. I wonder if they can detect a "pile" of goop and just think "too big for me" and skirt around it???

      • Yeah, a big concern for us and from what others are saying I don't think any of these can handle goopy piles of 'whatever'. Hmmm, maybe I should crowd-fund the design & manufacture of a true pet-capable robotic vacuum…

  • +1

I thought it was some kind of retro game console from the picture.

  • +2

    http://i2.minus.com/iHLAXOkQoIeRW.jpg

I can definitely see the resemblance of this to NES console (note: this is called the "Micro Genius" which is a clone of the Famicom)

    • +1

The US model of the SNES had the exact same colours too: grey and purple

      • Maybe it's just a case-mod?

        • I think so. Someone had a whole container load of SNES's lying around and figured "let's attach friggin' lasers to SNES's!".
          Neato was born.

  • So if I don't have pets, would the LG Roboking be a better buy? not taking into account the price differences

    • +1

Roboking is smart too, unlike Roomba, Hoover, etc. Roboking is also very quiet whereas the Neato is quite loud. The Roboking has lithium batteries. The Roboking can get confused by black rugs/carpet - it thinks it's falling off a cliff. Neato suffers from a wheel issue and you may need to buy some compressed air to regularly clean the sensors.

      • buy? I suspect my air compressor will do the trick. Or in true OZB style, if you don't have one, use the free one down at the local servo.

    • +1

I don't think either model is a satisfactory substitute for the rewarding experience of a loving dog or cat.

      • Pets are over-rated and neither of these will cr@p on you floor either. In fact they will do the opposite. ;-)

  • +1

Love my Neato, we've even named him…
Worked well on our carpets and floorboards.. however we just got a new rug for the living room and he struggles to get around on it. So I have to block off that area now before starting him up which is a bit of a pain. So if you have thick rugs around the place it might not be worth it.

  • get the pro version, thats what I did! came up to 400+ (inc shipping) direct from amazon (and make sure you use your 28 degrees card)

You're being ripped off if you buy it here, they are for sale for 600+ (roombas, etc.)

  • Is it me or this unit looks bit fugly? I'm still using my navi bot samsung and still think nothing beats using the regular vacuum, better invest on a dyson for slightly more cause these robots will always miss spots a d get stuck.

  • +1

Do you need seemless floors for this or can it handle strips, bumps, height differences of more than a few mm?

    • It climbs over wooden sticks of 1 inch diameter with ease. It has the ability to raise itself.

    • It's pretty good - if you have rugs and things it will find it's way up.

      • +1

        Tassels are an issue.

        • shoe-laces too I imagine

        • So are micro-usb cables.

  • Also parts are expensive to maintain, the filters, bristles and brushes need to be change which arnt cheap if the robot is used everyday, they wear out very quick. Also battery will obviously die faster and wont charge as fast.

The Neato XV-21 is a great robot, just don't over use him like any other robotic vacuum.
There are always newer models which come out every 1-2 years which have extended battery, better suction, bette movement, more silent and better sensors. There is not much point in purchasing a newer unit which costs almost an extra quarter of the older model. You won't find a dramatic difference, best to purchase 2 models over a previous model.

    • I have had mine set to clean the house 3 times a week for the last 12 months. The only maintenance I have done is a recently purchased battery and filter pack from ebay for $100. Now it goes for over an hour a charge (was falling off to around 20).

Not sure I could put a dollar value on the vacuuming effort neato has saved me, but it would be a sh1tload more than I have spend on buying and maintaining it. Well worth it in my opinion.

  • These things are awesome, we call ours Jed.

  • Just ordered. US$327.88 - total. Great deal. Thanks, trump3.

  • thanks bought 1

  • Thanks got one for the wife.

    • +3

Do you mean "Thanks got one to replace the wife"?

      • "Thanks got one to replace the wife"?

does this fall under rule 34 or 41?

  • Nice deal! Bought it on 21st of May for 349(377 including shipping), still in transit but just contacted Amazon and they replied that they'll refund the price difference, yay!

  • Nice find. Just ordered one. #368AUD inc. delivery to Melbourne. 12:41AM 3-6-2014.

  • wow finally managed to snag one!

  • Great robovac at a bargain. They are a touch noisy and as previously mentioned there is a huge thread about how great this robovac is on Whirlpool Forums

  • Thanks OP! I've been vacillating between this and the RoboKing, but I thought I'd try my luck with the cheaper (but well reviewed) Neato…

    Price has gone back up.

  • -1

Price didn't go up much…and still way cheaper than what it costs in Oz…so I bought one anyway and paid the expedited delivery which was only $70 more than standard…so I get to play with it this weekend.

    • Hate to break the news to you, but last time when I ordered it they sent it by express (about 3 days) despite me paying normal shipping.

      • Yeah…but I only bought one…nearly bought 2…could do with 3 (currently living in a 3 storey house).

        • Just wait for the model with rocket boosters like R2D2. You will only need 1.

        • +1

was only $70 more than standard

$70 to receive it around 3 working days earlier. not sure thats money well spent.

    • +2

Wow 70 more than regular? That's like a 20% price hike!

  • Is that a SNES?

  • Item just arrived, so Friday, as promised. Customs label says it is a "trunk, purse"??? huh?
Anyway…box inside a box inside a box…sure is heavy and the US cable runs into the charging unit which has an easily (push a button) removable cover that exposes the laptop charger inside - so off to the IT dept to see how many spare laptop charger cables they have lying around.

  • +1

mine arrived today, if your anything like me and madly pull it out of the box and set it up before reading any of the provided guides…. protip: take out the dust bin and turn the little switch to "on" or you get battery errors :$

was a little worrying first thing to think you got a dead neato till i stopped to read the guides :) #imadumbarse

  • Mine has been running around the house doing a great job. However it gets stuck trying to climb over the base of my Ikea Poang chair. It's fun to watch…but it's now set up to run when we're out of the house and it's a case of where do we find it stuck next time we're home? So far the Poang and the corner of an exercise mat have provided sticking points…and to its credit it seems to intelligently dislocate itself from its predicaments but sometimes it cant…maybe a software upgrade…or simply lay some of the "avoid" tape down as required.
