XBox 360 controller for PC

Hi,

I want to get a 360 wireless controller for my pc.
So I need a usb receiver, charge and play kit and controller.

Any suggestions on what to get or avoid?

How crappy are the 3rd party charge kits and receivers? I want an official Microsoft controller.

Thanks

  • I use the official Microsoft one and it works well .. if you go this option, don't forget: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145801

  • From my experiences, 3rd party wireless receivers are fine, set up might be a bit iffy though (through some internet research I had to go through device manager and install drivers from that list). You should get an original controller though, the non official ones just don't feel right.

I do recommend that you actually buy an authentic wired one, everything will just work and it will be easier not to worry about the receiver and battery.

You can always be a pioneer and try using one of the new gen controllers and let us know how it goes :)

  • I ended up buying a 3rd party one off ebay and it was malfunctioning, and "Device cannot start (Code 10)" error on it, and the place I bought it from would not accept a refund because I was using Windows 8 (even though I tested it on Windows 7 with the same issue, and tried alternatives which worked immediately).

I ended up getting an official wireless 360 PC controller (with receiver) from Centrecom during their sales for $36. If you are close by to a store, wait until they have their next sale (seems to be pretty often) and see what price they have it for. They currently have it for $44, but watch out for shipping costs - http://www.centrecom.com.au/microsoft-xbox-360-wireless-cont…

  • Thanks for the feedback. The PC is sitting on my TV cabinet so the controller has to be wireless to reach.
I think the box marked as jr9-00012 includes a Microsoft USB receiver and wireless controller.

I'm thinking this one for $35 at megabuy plus $10 shipping:

    Any suggestions for powering it?

  • EB Games is having their 'Biggest Sale Ever', which in other words is EOFY stocktake sale. I found two packs of Xbox 360 controller + dongle bundle, for $47ea. Considering an official 360 pad costs $47 by itself, this is a great deal.

Also, I have been going to the EB Games in this city since 2009 and I purchased the last pack they had. Never seen them again. So no idea where they grabbed two from, but chances are that your local EB will have em too.

  • I bought a 360 controller from EB Games for $12. It was second hand but it worked perfectly and I still use it today for PC gaming. Note that it was wired (less hassle I feel)
