90

"Get 1 Bonus Day of Unlimited Standard Talk and Text and 500mb of Data

When you activate choose '$2 Days 4G Ready'
Then you're good to go! And a bonus day of credit is yours when you connect before August 15"

Saw this on the $2 sims packs at Woolworths and Target yesterday in Brisbane CBD. Unsure if it applies to all optus $2 sim packs or just these promotionally covered ones.

So this deal is a saving of $2?

    • Yes (although you can normally only recharge a minimum of $10)

Good for those that need 500mb of data or unlimited calls just for a day, or for those wanting to just start out on Optus Prepaid. You could choose to activate on this offer than after using it recharge with another.

  • So 15GB and Unlimited Calls/SMS/MMS per month for $60

So 15GB and Unlimited Calls/SMS/MMS per month for $60

Not quite. Unused daily data does not carry over into the next day.

      • But if you buy a new sim every day then it works out

  • +1

The benefit of this is that the $2 deduction doesn't occur if you don't use data/make a call etc

Can't really see any other real benefit though.

    • +1

So if you turn your phone off for the whole day or don't leave your wifi comfort zone then you can avoid the $2 a day?

Wouldn't it be near on impossible to not use at least a few Kb in a day, unless you turn off network data on the phone, in which case why have a 4g smart phone?

      • Only reason would be if you're going camping for the weekend or a getaway without using tech.

        LOL, or for tourists…

  • +2

So, you get a day or 2 to check coverage in your home or office… cheap.

  • Only good for tourist?

I still am on the old 3 Dollar Days prepaid plan, where they charge me $3 every day except weekends (roughly $60 a month) & i get unlimited text, calls & data…yes unlimited data…if only they brought that plan back then that would be a deal…but i was told that the plan i am on wont work with 4G if i get a 4G phone, so ill wait till i buy the S5 & see if i can get 4G or not, or whether or not it is worth me changing plans to this

    • So lucky. Do you know where is still selling this plan?…

      • Sorry Bill, ive been on this plan for quite a few years now. Afaik Optus stopped this plan as soon as 4G was coming out. Its been stopped for atleast a year, maybe more. Back then they had both 2 Dollar Days & 3 Dollar Days plan…the difference being the 3 dollar days plan had the unlimited data whereas the 2 dollar days didnt have unlimited data but i think it was like 5GB or 10GB or so.

I doubt i will change to this new plan…i would only change if i really need the extra speed of 4G & cant live with 3G which so far i have no issues with as i basically live just outside the city so reception is great.

          Both $2 and $3 3G plans, unlimited.
When first introduced, the 3G $2 plan allowed tethering, but some people were abusing it. Optus introduced the $3 plan that allowed tethering.
          Optus re-introduced 3G $2 plan with changed T's & C's.
$3 3G plan closed to new signups not long after.
$2 3G plan closed to new signups late last year.

When first introduced, 4G $2 Days had a 1GB per day data cap - now 500MB.
You can access a single extra 500MB block in a 24hr period - but only for the loss of another $2 off prepaid credit balance.
Indications from people on the 4G plan are that Optus (likely because of the capping) are not even trying to police tethering, but you could still get a nasty surprise at some point.

Its ok but minimum recharge is $10 and you have 10 days to use it up with 5 days usage you pick the days. You cant just recharge with $10 and use any time in the next few weeks.

    • +1

Costs $1/day just to keep the credit current. Credit Rolls over if you recharge though

    • +1

I recharged with $5 through calling 555 and using credit card but its pointless because you have to recharge again to use the $1 left over.

      • +1

With recharging, you also have to keep in mind that while unused credit rolls over, days of network access do not. Access is always referenced to the last recharge, with each recharge value - max $100 - giving you a corresponding number of days access.

If you intend to use your $2 plan irregularly, the rollover credit situation vs days of access can see the credit build to a degree that is way at odds with days of access available - even with a high-value last recharge.

I also have the old $3 plan.. my record is 147gb download via hotspot without really trying. could go more… real handy when ur away from home or hotspot in car and let others or kids use youtube

this $2 is great. no absorbant bills. go over 500mb. u pay $2 for another 500mb unlike plans where u pay /mb. plus this is 4g unlike my 3g. my 3g is quick enough… this plan is good… mix of wifi and 4g 500mb. I think most people be fine. but yeh there are people out there that will disagree. but for most. it would ve rather hard to clock up a few hundred $$$ phone bill on this. plus if u spend all ur $$$ then u have to recharge as oppose to them keep deducting. woo kove this plan. done deal

    • i reckon the bill will chafe

  • Loving my $2 a day unlimited 3G :) Activated days before the offer ended and just kept throwing $5 credit on it every few months. $60 for unlimited phone/sms/data goes well between housemates!

  • Can I put this in my iPad and use it when I'm out. Most of the time I'm on wifi so won't be charged the $2. / day however when I fly I can smash the data at the airport and only pay $2,is this right?

Is there anything ales I need to be aware of? I.e sim will stop working if you don't top up every 30 days etc.

    • Use of $2 Days in anything other than an Android phone is against t's & c's.

Apple caved to telcos back in the day and allowed tethering-tracking to be baked into IOS, which allows easy device/tether detection by telcos of anybody who might be inclined to use - any given mobile plan - in, or it tethered from, an Apple device.

If Optus aren't policing tethering generally on the 4G plan (because of the 500MB cap), you could activate the SIM in, and tether data from, a cheap Android phone. As I said in a comment above, you could still get a nasty surprise at some point. It's up to you.

To answer your last question, Optus-SIM-death used to be stated as coming 6 months after last recharge-credit expiry.
I don't think that there are any t's/c's activity clauses that supercede that or specifically relate to the current $2 Days plan, but I might be wrong.

  • Worth clearing up, 4G tethering is fine/allowed on the current 4G Dollar Days, not mentioned at all on http://www.optus.com.au/prepaid/sim-card/plans/2-dollar-days… and confirmed allowed - https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=we…

    • Ok, that's confirmation. When they 'revised' the 4G plan (dropped daily cap from 1GB to 500MB) they must've just decided to allow it.
Allowing tethering, of course, also increases the likelihood that people will go past the 500MB cap and lose another $2 off their prepaid credit…

That's the Optus '$4 Days' plan.

  • In combination wirh my virgin 12gb for $40 I've been using this for about a year. I think its the best way to get 27gb wireless for under $100 unless anyone else has a better idea? Gotta say tho, it very rarely let's me go over 500gb (usually cuts me off at 500) and recently getting a of connection errors … Anyone else had any probs ?
