    Breville Quiet Kettle 1.7L

The don't stay quiet for long unfortunately…

    • Mine died after 3 years… Not sure I'd buy another one.

We got the Breville Smart Kettle about 3-4 years ago…

It's still working but is very noisy… It was quiet for about 6 months then gradually got louder and louder.

Lid keeps popping up by itself now randomly, and sometimes doesn't turn off after boiling, turning our kitchen into a sauna…

      • Mine died after 3 years

mine still works after 3yrs :)

though my 1st had to be replaced within a few months :(

    • 'It's whisper quiet'
I couldn't find the Troy McClure one.

    • The don't stay quiet for long unfortunately…

they should for at least 1yr - or 2yrs with extended warranty :)

    • but they look sexy.

    • huh? I bought mine from HN about 18 months ago. Still working strong and quiet (only the bubbling noise and a ding when finished). Very good kettle. Recommend it to all.

  • This Breville kettle sounds like a jumbo jet about to take off…

(the guy making the video must be deaf)

    • that's the old ikon, not the moda which won an australian design award mark and is the basis for the quiet kettles :)

That's the model I had. The light stopped working very quickly, too.
As for jumbo jet noise-level: I live ~4 km from Perth International Airport, directly under the approach route of landing planes. Planes nearly scrape my tv antenna. In terms of noise levels I can comment:
        Boeing 747 Jumbo < Breville Ikon Quiet Boil < Soviet-built IL-76 plane

    • is that justin bieber ?

      • lionel richie's daughter, if I'm not mistaken

        • No… freaking… way! I meant that as a joke, and then I googled it….
          I am without words.

        • lionel richie's daughter, if I'm not mistaken

          You ARE mistaken

At the age of three, her parents agreed to let her move in with Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey because they could not afford to provide for her financially.

          Whaaaa?

          Michael Jackson was Richie's godfather.

          Whaaaaaaaaa??

she studied Arts and Media. Richie did not have a definitive study plan in Arizona, and eventually dropped out after two years and returned to California.

This could not get any more surreal.
But I digress; I'm supposed to be talking about kettles…. :-P

  • can anyone comment on the telstra dect phone?

    • +1

One would hope so, otherwise it would not be very fit for purpose ;)

Seriously though, I have not had this model, but some years ago I bought a Telstra DECT phone for a very similar price. It was very poorly built, always creaked while holding it, and the LCD display leaked causing the buttons not to respond because of orange goo getting between the contacts. Telstra buys cheap OEM phones and rebadges them with their brand. I do not recommend it, and would not buy again.

If you want a quality phone, get yourself a Gigaset (formerly by Siemens, now a brand on its own; very good reputation in Europe since late '90s). Spectacular sound quality even on a bad line (noise reduction) and great battery life. But they're <=$70 (eBay).
