Just went through the drive thru at HJ's Carseldine QLD to pick up my $2 bacon egg muffin this morning and noticed a banner up for 2 for 1 burgers on Tuesday.

    Which ones ?

It changes at the store's discretion I think. I've seen whooper, bacon deluxe and a range of chicken burgers on offer at no particular pattern.

        whooper

        • Whopper, yes I realised, but was too late to edit.

      • It changes monthly, they generally post the new one on their facebook page when it changes over.

Hasn't this been going on for at least a year now? Or am I to assume that it's different up north. Likewise for the post yesterday on the muffins.

Is this in every state or just selected stores?

  • +2

i think it stacks with the value meals too
so if you order a meal they'll throw in an extra burger

That's my experience. Some tuesdays I'll have a Hungry Jacks CBD lunch and give the second burger away to a person sleeping rough or begging.

      • Do they eat it?

        • +3

Mostly tuck in straight away. Haven't had any refusals, even though it is arguably presumptuous to presume they might need it…

They've had this going at my local HJ for ages too now. The banner is up every Tuesday morning bright and early.

Makes me wonder how many burgers they 'give away' every Tuesday per store.

Why can't healthy food be as ridiculously cheap as this lol. sigh.

Unfortunately, that would be too easy.

Hungry Jack's is healthy food, because the only unhealthy food is food that literally makes you unwell (ie poisonous, expired, contaminated). At about 650kcal/whopper, a moderately active man would need to eat more than 4-5/ day for it to be considered "unhealthy."

If you merely eat two whoppers, and you typically eat two or three meals per day, then you are more than likely to be within a healthy caloric range if you treat yourself to a Hungry Jack's lunch or dinner.

        Hungry Jack's is healthy food.

        Totally.

P.S. I agree with your last comment that 'treating oneself' to foods like these isn't really a big deal at all. My actual point (which was rather tongue in cheek anyway) is that all too often, the cheapest foods are those higher in calories per serve (or per 100g), often with high fats and sodium. They're also the types of foods that constitute part of a "meal" for most people. Ie. burger + fries + drink.

Having deals like this is great for those who have no health issues and have an otherwise balanced diet… but you cannot deny the fact that a great value BOGOF deal like this is promoting excess consumption to some people. It also makes it an even more viable food option to vulnerable, cash strapped people: school kids, for example.

I'm not hating on fast food (though I have complex opinions on the whole food industry lol), but come on… everywhere you look, the most nutritious, balanced, wholesome foods are invariably the most expensive. The more processed it becomes, the cheaper the eventual price.

To pretend that that doesn't have a negative effect on society is pretty whack, man.

Healthy food isn't that expensive either really. Your local fruit and vegies store will sell a lot of great produce at $1-4 a kilo.

A kilo of apples at $3-2 will fill you up more than a burger.

A kilo of chicken wings for $1.50-$2.00 again is heartier than a burger (depending on how its cooked).

I do agree with your sentiment that healthy food isn't as cheap AND ready as fast food. But I think there's a misconception that healthy food is expensive. I do agree that there is a lot more effort and time involved in purchasing healthy food and creating a MEAL. One of the things I enjoy is grocery shopping for fresh produce and creating decent, nutritious meals.

      • that was the problem with the 'super-size me' guy, you cannot eat this crap every meal, be lazy and expect no problems. Everything in moderation!!

PS you can get salad on your burgers at HJ's for free, I read that on here somewhere… And/or like carwashhair does, you can give away the free burger to someone else!

        mmm flame grilled

  • In particular the Carseldine I think is just Bacon Deluxes- not a bad deal though
