  • better get android box.

  • How does this compare to the WD Media player?

    • +3

      It doesnt.

  • Pardon my ignorance, but I do not understand what these devices do that a similarly priced blu-ray player with a USB port does not. What am I missing?

    • +2

I haven't used one of these, but some media players allow network connectivity, access to various media sites like youtube, netflix etc. or superior file compatibility. Some may have communities build around them with customised firmware allowing a self-tailored/customisable media player experience. Some people may have bluray players with these features already and some might not. To those that do not, it might make sense to buy a media player rather than a brand new high-end bluray player if the cost difference is high enough. shrugs

    • +1

These are usually networkable, either through wireless or ethernet meaning if you have central storage in your home like a desktop or NAS they can play movies direct which is great. On top of they they are usually more likely to receive updates and play a wider variety of file formats. Last but not least on average the interface is usually a bit nicer and the remote less complex which makes them better for those who are confused easily.. ie parents.

    • +1

you're missing RMVB format. not an issue if you don't use RM files.

    • I have a small media player that fits behind the TV mounted on avail in the bedroom. Size of a portable HDDtucked away and not seen. Blueray player would not be suitable.

  • Please Note: Since posting this deal I have discovered that this Media Player does NOT have WiFi,please be aware before buying.

    • that's crap..

get an android one, must better
