  • The ipod dock that is not a ipod dock, no wonder it's 1/2 price

  • Sonice,

It is not advertised as an Ipod dock - however it has a USB port (not a mini USB) that enables the carging of Ipods and most MP3's if the unit is operating on Mains power.

The sound - out of such a small unit is really quite awesome!

    • I was referring to the concept that, design some thing small and compact with an amazing sound but completely missing a key market but this is why you have it for sale. Do you think Bose would ever sold one of their $500 ipod docks if it didn't have a little plastic holder in the front to stick in my iphone/ipod. Sure I can plug my iphone into just as I can plug my iphone into any other hifi/Xbox360/PS3/Mediatank in my place but none of these are purpose build for this just as this isnt it's too universal. I love JBL and would love to buy one but what the crap would I do with it, its not like I can take it on picnics, Unless it comes with a 5km extension cord, or a clock radio maybe - fail, or wear it on my head like headphones. it's just a example of a fantastic product with no key market

        It can be battery powered.

Slightly agree with you on the dock side…it would have been good to see an iphone/ipod dock on this or at least a slot but if you just set your music to play and have the ipod/iphone sitting beside it, it would be fine. Plus, not everyone has an iphone/ipod so being too universal is better than being too product specific.

Limited bass but the output is loud.

Great price though…cheapest on staticice is $234!

Are there are any other portable sound systems that can compete with this for $139 (+$17 shipping to QLD)??

        Very tempted to get it.

  • Sonice,

Whilst i agree regarding the concept - as Stix said - it can be battery powered.

JBL do also produce another unit (and I personally own this - and it has exceeded my expectations) called an "On Stage" that does as you say - it is an ipod dock - however the price is substatially more (than this price anyway:) ) and it cant be battery powered!

I guess you have to choose what you want!
