couldn't they give that half inch extra to make it 55"

My first thought was what happened to the other 1/2 inch?

        It's cold today.

      • that's what she said

    • Even better, thanks!

  • Looks / specs the same as the dse branded one for $698??

    Very cheap!

  • Id saty this is actually a pricing error so I'd be quick.

It still shows $898 on the product listing page, only the product page shows $498, and has no "hot" or"special" labelling on the price

edit - looks like it shows both prices depending whether you search or browse for it.. Still likely an error IMO

    • No it wouldn't be a pricing error. It's on part of today's hour of power clearance sale.

  • Is this 50 or 100hz?

    • I'd say it's either a 50 or 60hz TV.

    • +1

if it was 100Hz they would specify it

anyways, it's interesting that it has composite video output (no component input though)

    • What's the difference?
I mainly watch FTA, so will it matter.

As always, be aware that Dick Smith is happy to sell "full high definition" TVs that are only capable of 1080i, not 1080p, depending on the input. For example, I have a DSE branded 42" LCD that is only able to do 1080p over VGA, not HDMI. Note that this TV is not advertised as supporting 1080p, so anyone buying this TV should check in-store what it is capable of.

Secondly, some of the cheaper TVs are not capable of 1:1 pixel mapping i.e. you cannot disable overscan. This is a significant issue if you are plugging in a computer, and you might need a range of workarounds (EDID override, DTD calculator) to get a decent image. This is also something that you should check in-store. Although this is 2014, they still sell TVs with these shortcomings…

  • Well, I just bought one. Not expecting too much on the quality front.

Was tossing up between this and the 55" Kogan (Has 3D & Smart TV functionality) for $690 here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147848

It's going to be used with a HTPC 99% of the time. Figured if I don't like it, I can sell it on gumtree for what I paid for it.

  • Tempting… Perfect for the holiday house (if only I have a holiday house…)
Looks like it is still available at this price with the clock ticking down for another hour.

  • Anyone's orders been posted? My status still says "awaiting fulfillment".

    • On Friday mine changed to sent, have a tracking code which says it should be delivered today.

  • Mine just arrived. No time to play with it yet so I'll wait for others to comment on how good/bad etc…. For $493 delivered though?

  • Mine was delivered a few days after purchase. Good value and no regrets on purchase. I only needed a basic tv so can't comment on connecting a pc etc. The only minor issue is that the sound has a weird echo at times. Super light tv so very easy to set up and move around.
