Is it really worth it? The most we can save from this is approx $20-25 by the time the card arrives, and we have to deposit $2k/month to avoid fees? I think ING reverts to 2% after the 5% rebate period ends, and is way easier to maintain, lasts longer and has no $12.50/week limit.

    • Agree! Even ING 2% rebate is a better choice when you consider all these hassles

Not a fan of Peoples Choice (in fact cancelled my membership) - their interest rates are crap compared to other credit unions, and if you don't meet certain criteria, they now charge $6 per month per account. Plus they charge an annual Visa card fee too of $40 if memory serves me correctly.

  • Hardly worth it. Better of going with me bank

Lol this has nothing on ing/mebank.

I don't know why anyone would go with a bank that charges fees on a basic transaction account.

it's never stopped the big four banks from getting customers before :)

And boy do they charge fees! Here are my favourites.

      • $0.30 for each declined transaction after the first one regardless of reason.
      • $0.25 extra per non-rediATM withdrawal (I thought those fees were illegal now but there you go)
      • A $5 cash advance fee if you press Credit when withdraw cash at any ATM because apparently even though it's your money it's a cash advance according to them.
      • $5 per transaction if you happen to lose your wallet and therefore have no card ID and need cash out over the counter.
      • $20\year if you leave your account inactive.

The only other bank I can think of that is worse is Bendigo who basically charge you for everything short of thinking about them. The strange thing is people continue to bank with both Bendigo and PCCU.

It doesn't help either that their cards are ugly - they're the same, uh, charming shade of vomit green that their website is.

tl;dr thoroughly advised against unless you like paying fees for no good reason.

sneaky edit: just saw it as I closed the window, $10 per replacement card unless the card was stolen. Fun!

      • Those are some dastardly fees!

  • i'm not sure if it worth the hassle to get an extra 0.5%, not to mention the cash back limit "2.5% cashback on payWave purchases until June 30 (up to a maximum of $12.50/week)*"

  • This has been around a few months now as it coincided with the launch of their Zip account. The only fee free criteria is to at least have $2000/month in credits to your account.

The visa card fee as mentioned above is for the credit visa, not debit from memory.

    • Nope - prior to cancelling my accounts, the bastards would charge me an annual VISA fee each year, and I only had a VISA Debit card linked to my account.

  • Looking worse and worse. Might even be worth a neg
