  • This is a great price

  • If I was in the market for a new monitor I would snap this up at this price even though it's a TN panel.

No vesa mounts, which I need, otherwise I'd be sold as it's an amazing price.

    • +1

      No VESA? Wtf

You can't read text at 4K on a 28" inch screen unless you increase the DPI which is a broken work-around. I don't get why you need 4K on sub-30" inch monitors.

    • +10

That's always the argument until the new format gets some porn releases.

BANG! Before you know it, the market is saturated (or moistened).

      • +5

Yeah but watching it in 360P let's your imagination fill in the gaps caused by the terrible codec compression; you can visualise that incredibly hot co-worker that you don't have the courage to talk to, in place of Jenna Jameson.

Watching it in 1080P, it's pretty hard to escape the bleak reality that a barely conscious crack-ho is getting her back door sub-atomically rearranged by an escaped gorilla/ex-con on probation.

Some things are just better left opaque.

        • Couldn't have put it better. Sometimes less (pixels) is more.

      • Please don't bang & saturate my screen.

What it does is increases the definition making the text crisper and easier to read.

It also depends on how close you sit to the monitor.

    • Text zoom. OS font settings. Browser ctrl-scroll wheel. Make the text bigger, but still retain the super crispness 4k brings. Icons too small? Change your OS Icon size.

If you're changing your screen resolution to make things bigger, you're doing it wrong.

He's referring to DPI scaling, not changing screen resolution. He's right its fairly broken (as in its not supported widely) - an example that would affect a lot of people is chrome (without registry edits). The webpage zoom works, but theres elements that don't zoom and are difficult to read such as the menu bar etc. OS is generally not the problem either since DPI scaling works well with the OS/ microsoft applications.

        • Chrome has a default zoom within the settings. There is no need for registry edits. I've been using it for a year or so and don't have any complaints (to my surprise). With DPI, some apps (usually image intensive) are poorly designed and have scaling issues but I haven't found one that isn't usable. With higher resolution displays becoming more popular, DPI scaling will be less of an issue in the near future as developers incorporate it into their design.

    • What ? Increasing the DPI is the whole point. Have you ever looked at a Retina MacBook Pro, a Retina iPad or even a 2013 Nexus 7 ?

      • +4

It's more complicated than you think.

Note all those machines have OS system wide font scaling. Even then there are many applications for OSX that don't support it will have teeny tiny functionally unreadable text on something like a retina MBP 13". It's a common gripe with retina MBP users with programs like Adobe Photoshop that have UI elements which won't scale. It can get pretty bad with some people saying its a chore to even mouse over the icons due to their tiny size (the mouse cursor scales but the UI elements don't, so the cursor becomes the size of most the UI elements).

Try doing it with a Windows machine and you will be SOL any which way with individual programs controlling their own scaling most the time.

        • " It's a common gripe with retina MBP users with programs like Adobe Photoshop"

Retina support in photoshop on OSX was implemented late 2012 / Jan 2013…

"Even then there are many applications for OSX that don't support it will have teeny tiny functionally unreadable text on something like a retina MBP 13"."

…nope, the OS scales it. The app will just look slightly blurry rather than unreadable (e.g: the governments Tax application), I cannot think of a single app that I've encountered that has been unreadable, can't vouch for games though - don't game on a mac.

I'm finding less and less apps not having support from the get go nowadays. Same with newer websites. It's up to developers to bring support of resolution independence.

LG 34UM95 is a better alternative for some (myself included)

      • 21:9 Ultra Wide aspect ratio, loathed by some, appeals to others (can replace multiple monitors)
      • 3440 X 1440 - not quite 4K but far more refined compared to 1st gen 4K monitors
      • IPS, considered better by many
      • Not as demanding on graphic card requirements compared to 4K
      • The only negative is price ($1300) but considering the above, you get what you pay for

Agree. I have dual 24" for productivity but the bezels mess up (occasional) gaming…just use one screen. Large ultrawide is what I've been waiting for.

        • I also use dual 24" (16:10) which I assume is what you.

Am planning to buy the LG beast in 2-3 weeks time.

        • 5 Years down the track, and I still can't decide what I'd replace my dual setup with. Still the cheapest way, and it's simple for multi-tasking. But head-left, head-right, or staring at the bezels is crap. And many games crap-out when you ALT-TAB away from it.

Get a great big hi-res screen (for a LARGE cost), even ultra wide, and it'll be easy to have multiple windows… But gaming will probably spaz-out without some software tweak to black-bar the sides.

        Dear lord - it's beautiful: http://youtu.be/KnrxNfxRK_4

reaaaly good monitor for productivity. Not so much for media consumption or gaming - black bars and only a handful of games support that resolution.

        • Rather play games centred (with or without black sidebars) than on only one of two 24" (my current setup).

        • I'm with you. Rarely play games. I hear the 21:9 game support is improving, though to be fair this monitor was never targeting gamers.

      • That looks really, really nice.

..thinking about selling my Dell 30' for one.

    • +1

I can read text perfectly fine on a 13" 1080p screen without having to increase the DPI.

      4K with 28" would be amazing! :D

Crap!!!! I must have just missed it.. It said 10+ in Stock then 5 mins later all gone…
    No oooooooooo!!!!!

    OzBargained!!!!

    • when I bought mine it said 50% stock left. They must have realised that price might be a bit off.

$699 is the US rrp - most places doing it for about $750.

  • Need GFX cards to get a lot better before this becomes viable for most gamers. Still, that was a great price

  • Apparently back in stock

  • Omg!, I just by chance looked at my watch items on eBay and it had 3 more in Stock.. Just bought one about 1 hour ago.. All gone again after 2 mins

    Got it @ $559

    Yay!!!!!!
