Pyrex Glassware 30% off at Coles

590

Pyrex glass containers 30% off at Coles. Coles prices for these are pretty good anyway, so this makes them a great deal.

Much better than the plastic crap. Looks like plenty of stock as well (in Coles Southern River)

Favorite thing is the glass roaster.

Everything else I've purchased can be difficult to clean. I just put this in the dishwasher and a year later it still looks brand new.

      Time for a faster dishwasher!

Wouldn't cook in anything else! If your worried about crap leaching into your food, pyrex is brilliant!

    • Is there any evidence that "crap" leaches into your food?

Costco has a better deal if you buy in bulk although they are Pyrex glass and Snapware lids (which are 10x better anyway), think it was $40 for 18pc from memory.

    • +1

Depends - i'm not a fan of the snapware lids. Also - the packs usually have some small ones and no big ones etc. This way I got to pick exactly what I wanted.

      • +1

This is very true, I hate the small ones

    • +2

No Costco in Perth unfortunately :(

      • Why Perth is sooo isolated….

    • +2

      its 18pc
      http://www.amazon.com/Snapware-Total-Solution-Keeper-Featuri…

      39.50 or something like that
      definitely under 40

i quite like the small ones actually for the small things i use them as air tights since i found out sistema werent =\

Also 30% off at Woolworths. (I was there today. Sorry, I didn't take pictures.)

  • Is this nationwide? Can't seem to find it in this week's catalogue.

Beware when buying the 'no leak lid' range glass as shown on the upper section of OP's pic. I bought two of those, the Pyrex glass body is wonderful as always, but the quality of those lids is absolutely crap. They are cheaply made plastics that don't withstand couple washes in the dishwasher, after two months of usage, I now have one lid that has a 'nice' long crack and the other one with a vent that does not close properly.

    • +2

I ended up having to buy a whole new set because the lids were more expensive to replace! Like I mentioned above, having a much better time with the Snapware lids and Pyrex bottoms.

    • Great :( I spent a while deliberating whether to get the no leak or the regular. Bought some no leak but mostly regular. Guess i'll just have to keep them out of the diswhasher - should hopefully be ok then.

    • You could probably argue that you had a reasonable expectation that they'd last longer and get them replaced or refunded (and Woolies/Coles will usually do that just by you going to the counter with proof of purchase with no need to go to Consumer Affairs).

  • +4

looking at the prices from the pic, the recent Big W 50% sale on Pyrex seem to have better prices. iirc Big W had the pack of 3 big round containers + leak proof lids for ~$17, or the 3 big rect containers + normal lids for ~ $15

  • +2

the 'no leak lid' is made in china while the glass container is made in usa.
Agree the lid is terrible in quality. Mine is cracked after a few use in microwave and the rubber sealant becomes loose.

    • Same.

    • -1

You're not supposed to put lids in the microwave, smartass.

      • +1

        What are you on about?

        10-pc No-Leak Lid Set includes 1 each: …
        • Vents for microwaving
        • Microwave and dishwasher safe

Pyrex 6 Piece No-Leak Lids Storage Set

Keep food fresh with this Pyrex 6 Piece No-Leak Lids Storage Set. The manual vent on top of the lid allows for proper air circulation during microwave use including the safe release of steam and pressure

  • Does metal cutlery scratch the glass?

    • Not really, I've scratched mine a few with a knife but its not noticeable.

    • +3

Meh, they are cheap enough to replace every so often. Besides, you cook in it, clean it, put it away :) It's not an ornamental vase or anything. I notice very fine scratches but I wouldn't cook in anything else.

      • +2

Just my OCD that gets to me.

  • +4

I think Pyrex Glassware was 50% off in Big W 2 weeks back.

    • You are correct. 40% off and it is still on.

      • I am sure it was 50%.

  • +2

    These are better: https://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/Shop/ProductDetails?Sto…

They go on sale at half price every three months or so.

Listed on big w but sold out it seems: https://www.bigw.com.au/home-garden/kitchen/cookware/oven-to…

    Way better lids.

    • Thats assuming they want that specific product

      • The ones looking at the 'no leak' boxes certainly do! These are definitely no leak, I have all three sizes.

  • How does it compare to the Ikea ones?

Never put pyrex lids in the microwaves or dishwashers. They just dont last long.

    • +2

I second that motion… I never put my lids in the microwave or dishwasher and they still work like new. Heat destroys plastic no matter what they say.

Love the glass though… makes reheating a curry safer because you know there isn't any plastics leaching into that vindaloo.

  • +1

This will come in handy with my flybuys spend $40 save $10 vouchers. I never use flybuys, I only got it to get cheaper insurance. Cases like this are an exception :)

  • +1

Pyrex glass may contain lead though, there are reasons why glass aren't always the best idea. I know lead(in wine bottles) often leak into wine.

So leaching is still an issue. Even in ceramic cookware.

  • Lead is expensive to put in glass… hence why the most expensive crystal glassware is high-lead content… it's very heavy.

Pyrex won't have lead content enough to be a problem, plus wouldn't stand the heat torture of an oven anyway.

  • +1

David Jones has 40% off Pyrex at the moment too.

  • The only thing in Pyrex that concerns me is aluminium, but it's about 1%? of the content, very minor.

    • +1

so now is has aluminium and lead….

Every single type of bake/cookware seems to have some kind of cancer causing element to it.

      • +2

Correction. Everything seems to cause cancer.

        • and we are going to die from something anyway. at least by using pyrex we are better off than using any sort of plastics out there.

      • Where did I say it had lead?

        Soda-lime glass general industry composition:

        74 SiO2, 13 Na2O,
        10.5 CaO, 1.3 Al2O3,
        0.3 K2O, 0.2 SO3,
        0.2 MgO, 0.04 Fe2O3,
        0.01 TiO2

        • You didn't say it but someone else did.

    • +1

Man I am gonna run out of things to cook my food in and also things to hold and reheat my food in.

  • +1

picked 1 from big W cbd , they were in half price , there are still few left mixing salad bowls, containers and casseroles left …

  • Picked up a 7 cup round one today. Noticed plenty of defects on the other ones though. Lids being cut, edges serrated (looks like it was hacked along the ground). The vent cap was missing on a number of those too.

So to those who are going to get one, check it though before heading to the cash registers.
