20% off Parallels Desktop 9: Upgrade $43.96 (Was $54.95), $34.34 with a VMware key

50

Parallels Desktop 9 is 20% off, which is the first discount since their sale in February.

Version 9 brings compatibility with OS X 10.9 (host + guest) and Windows 8.1 (guest) plus the usual speed increases and marketing fluff. This also comes with six months complimentary access to Parallels Access for iPad and a licence for Snagit for Mac and Windows (which is allegedly worth $64).

Offer expires June 23, 2014

.* Couldn't check if it applies to the $39.99 student deal.

[Edit 1 - it looks like the full licence price was an error. Originally advertised as $55.44 down from $67.46, but now it is "BUY NOW FOR 89,95 AUD 67,46 AUD"]
[Edit 2 - incorporated Battler's comments]

  • Seems to be upgrades only. Full License is AU$ 67.46 (save $55.44 with the default bundle of other stuff..)

    • Bugger. I got that price off their front page and I suspect they've fixed an error. Not nearly as good a deal now.

FWIW, I have a way old VMware licence and most times I'm forced to upgrade when a new OS comes out I use it to get the swap discount. I really dislike how Parallels deliberately cripples their software from working with future OSes.

      • Ah well, I won't bother then. I'd set a reminder to buy a separate new licence on the weekend, given the $10 difference is worth it.

I only have the one MacBook Pro, and it already has Parallels 8 which seems to be fine, so I don't know whether I'd get $44 worth of utility or value out of upgrading, but with a separate licence I could've handed one off to a friend who is new to Macs.

        • so I don't know whether I'd get $44 worth of utility or value out of upgrading

I agree on this point, but AFAIK Parallels 8 is incompatible with Mavericks. I hate how often upgrades are required when a new OS comes out.

        • I've been using OS X 10.9 for a while now and Parallels 8 works fine. In fact, I did a clean install of Mavericks on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro, and Parallels 8 never give me any trouble either accessing my Windows 8 Boot Camp partition or running Windows 7 virtual machine images that live on the OSx partition.

        • My bad. Turns out the version I own was 7, not 8 (Which explains why I couldn't get it to work on my Mavericks machine).

No worries. Thanks for posting the deal anyhow, I ended up getting the Complete version for A$34.34 thanks to you and battler.

By the way, I bought Parallels 7 when Parallels 8 was just about to be released, and they promised a free upgrade. Glad to hear that the latter was what made working with Mavericks possible; I wasn't paying much attention at the time (and of course Mavericks wasn't out yet).

        • Cheers. I need one for a new desktop anyhow, but I can't help but feel I'm going to be a version out when Yosemite comes around :|

  • SnagIt does not appear to be included in this upgrade. It appears on the checkout page as an up-sell. It is, however 20% off down to AU$54.99 from $64.99.

    Poaching offer is currently AU$34.34

This is a great find. I'd only looked at the page and the discount doesn't come up til you enter the key. I've amended the posting.

I also was going to buy this evening as I wasn't near my home computer when I posted the deal. Thanks for saving me another ten bucks.

You guys are legends! Thanks so much for this, especially the tip re using an old VMware key for an even bigger discount. I noticed it allowed me to buy more than one so I bought two : )

The deal expires very soon. Glad you got in on time alphaomega. At various times I've needed to use VMware or Parallels specifically and the discounts I've got from each of their poacher offers have more than made up for the inconvenience.

    • I wanted to upgrade so it worked out perfectly. Thanks again.
