Lacie 320GB Black Pocket Hard Drive - $99 @ Officeworks plus one free year of Carbonite

230

In addition to this being a good deal on a portable hard drive, LaCie also includes a free one year subscription to Carbonite, one of the best online backup services around. It's worth almost $99.00 on its own. You can upload and store as much as you want, giving you a safe offsite storage for photos, music, videos, documents, etc. Carbonite is recommended by all the tech experts.

  • First time I've heard the term "worth almost $99.00". Usually people say $100.00 haha

  • Good deal, but once you get hooked on your online backups you'll be paying it for years to come. This may or may not be a good thing!

    • Yeah that's what i thought at first. But that other thread has no mention of the free Carbonite backup subscription, so i guess this counts as a new deal.
Although he could have just mentioned the free Carbonite in a post on the other thread. Nevermind.

  • Can you get a few year's subscription by buying a few drives?

  • The LG XD1 320GB USB + eSATA Portable HDD at Computer Alliance (Brisbane) is back up to $99 now, but still a good buy for BrisVegians.

I noticed that this is also available at Harris Technology as well at the same price

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but this unit appears to have a DC power socket. Can anyone confirm if this requires a power adaptor, because if so, it defeats the portability of a 2.5" external drive. I ask because I'm looking to upgrade from a WD 2.5" drive which requires 2 usb plugs (1-pwr, 1-data), and just want a drive that requires one cable only.

    • We bought this and it uses the usb to power the drive. It also contains another usb connector in case the usb on the laptop is a 1.0 and needs more power, but if the laptop usb connnectors are 2.0 it won't need the extra cord.

      • Hey thanks for the reply. My current drive is the same, only uses the second connector for USB hubs that cannot supply enough power on one port. I didn't think this would be an issue when I bought it, but I haven't had a PC yet that can power the thing off one connector. Also, my current one is Seagate, not WD.
