  • good deal…

especially from office works, boz you can use credit card ^^

  • The hard disk is a samsung btw.

    • which is good.. i have been using multiple samsung HD for many years without problems.

    • +2

mine is Hitachi, I just cracked it open as soon as I bought it.

  • good price… plus OW offers free delivery (same day delivery if ordered before 11:30am metro/regional)…

    might just get this…

other option was the Iomega Prestige 2.5" 320gb for $106 at msy… but dont have time to go there…

    • iomega is a steal - I'll go for that

      • What brand HD does the Iomega Prestige 2.5” 320gb use?

    • +1

not really free delivery, you pay $5 postage & handling, but still very reasonable though. Bought one, thanks a lot for sharing.

  • hmmm can never have enough pocket hard drives… might go pick one up!

  • good deal

  • Does anyone know if there's stock left at Officeworks Victoria Park (WA)?

    • The website says online only for this item.

Update - seems it is available in stores.

  • Online only. Kind of blows that basically the whole of Tasmania is classed as 'country'. ~$30 postage, what a rip

    • Are there OfficeWorks stores in Tasmania, just out of curiosity?

      • Yep, one in Hobart and one in Launceston.

    • Don't be silly, Tasmania isn't part of Australia.

    • +1

These drives are available at the Launceston store. Still plenty left when I was there this morning

  • Bought one, was going to spend $170 for 500GB, but realised I don't need that much :)

  • +3

This isn't an online only offer, I was in both of the Melbourne QV store and they had it in store, labelled at the $99 price.

  • +1

they had a pile of these in the coburg store yesterday, definitely not online only

    • yep it is not an "Online only" offer. Just bought one from Elizabeth Street outlet here in Melbourne.
They had about 8 to 10 units left on display.

Normally I prefer to get my own case, e.g. Vantec 2.5" Nexstar 3 (with eSATA) and get a 7200rpm hdd of my own (if I use it for usb only, I will just get a 5400rpm one). But the price is no way matching this.

    • Just did something similar :-)
      Got a 320GB, 7200RPM, 16MB cache drive for $109.
      Going to upgrade my laptop.

  • 1 Year limited warranty.

I think normally they provide 3-5 years warranty!

  • 7 available in OW Osborne Park WA - confirmed $99 price : )

    • Thanks, I brought one from Osborne park today, there are 9 available, I guess they have more in stock :-)

not that good… wow have a 500gb maxtor for the same money.

    https://shop.1wow.com.au/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcatego…

    • maxtor is no good

    • +1

that is a 3.5" hdd. you need to carry a power adapter with you. the OW one is portable, 2.5", and is powered through USB.

    • +1

Do you realise that you are comparing apple vs orange? USB-powered vs AC power? 2.5" vs 3.5" HD? Portable and power-brick?

      • +1

Agreed. I believe Dave303 has missed the point due to his comparison with a different product.

        • +1

ah- my bad. didn't see 2.5" advertised, which I guess is covered by pocket hard drive :|

    • I am not sure if it happened to anyone: I have a fujisu external 2.5" case with a 5400rpm hdd in it. For the first year of usage, it can be powered by USB alone. After that, it refused to power up on some computer unless there are external power. Another year later, it constantly requires external power. Here, the external power is referring to another USB connection on the Y cable (one USB mini B to two USB A connectors).

no esata? there was a deal up for $10 less for a 320GB drive that has esata.

    • +1

Do you actually have an eSata port? Does anyone?

More importantly, do you envision yourself ever owning a computer with an eSata port? Not exactly a technology that took off.

      • +1

No need to exaggerate - of course some people have eSATA ports.

I do and have used it with an external HDD. Beats the **** out of USB2.

      • +2

lol wtf? esata is just an external sata port.

Yes I have two ports and yes any computer could get an adapter and have esata.

why bother with a USB only drive that costs more? seems like a poor/average deal to me.

    • The LG XD1 320GB USB + eSATA Portable HDD at Computer Alliance (Brisbane) is back up to $99 now, but still a good buy.

  • got one at nth sydney OW… $99… there are none on shelf as they have been put in a big bundle near the counters… plenty left…

  • Bought mine from Sydney CBD OW and there were quite a few on the shelves there.. they also had 1T for $139. Only 1yr warranty but they offer to sell you more at the counter.. tricky OW! :)

    • 1tb which model ?? Lacie

  • Yeh Melbourne QV has quite a few on the shelf in the Technology section @ $99. Picked one up, will check it out tonight.

  • There are about 30+ of them at Bankstown OW.

  • There was a quarter page advert in the Age today regarding this special. I would expect stocks to diminish rather quickly given the advert.

    • Ditto for Daily Telegraph in Sydney.

  • Was at OW Milton in Brisbane today, and they had at least 1/2 dozen on the shelf at $99.

  • I've still got an old Lacie 120Gb drive, it's a keeper. Never had any issues, it's robust, doesn't need power and very portable. I paid $120 2 years ago and that was a bargain then. Recommended!

I bought one of these just now at Artarmon, don't be fooled though. I wanted to use the HDD in my PVR which requires IDE drives, the drive is a Hitachi SATA drive.

I busted it wide open and realised it was the wrong drive, I'm just going to keep it and use it for something else.

I can take pics of the hitachi and all insides if needed. It's just four screws, pry the cover off then another 4 screws (one is hidden under the white sticky tape)

    • Which Hitachi drive is it?

      • Hitachi 5400rpm 5K500 B-320

        if that helps. 5v 700mA DC SATA 3.00gb/s June 09 it's dated.

        • can i use it for ps3 ??
          it's 2.5" right ?

  • I just returned this drive, hadn't hooked it up to my PC however I cracked the cover open only to find is a SATA Hitachi. I was after an IDE drive, Office Works had no issues with me returning it.

    • +1

Geez, where'd you get the idea it would be IDE? That's extinct tech now, it's all Sata. Lucky you were able to return it.

    • Probably the only place you are going to get an IDE drive is secondhand. Could be the odd old stock of new Ide, but if they exist they would be lower capacity than this.
