I used my existing account and linked the PayPal, and have got the 12 months trial promotion.

    • Non-Pro account?

      • +3

Not OP but worked on my existing account that had pro before albeit from a free promo code, never paid.

        • +5

Didn't work on my existing account that had pro from the Moj Telecom deal (even though it got cancelled after 2 days). I'm just gonna up on perplexity after this.

          • +2

@Markness05: Mine didn't even get cancelled, I was banned on arrival. But I still see the message:

You are already subscribed or have previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro.

    • -1

Didn't work on my existing, previously subscribed. Although that was via google account so maybe that's the difference.

  • +12

Got one with my existing account, never subscribed before. Thanks for share, it’s the best ai search engine now, love it

    • You're welcome, good to know about the existing account thing.

    • My free Pro subscription just finished & "You are already subscribed or have previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro" (PayPal & Perplexity are on the same gmail). I will just continue with the free DeepSeek/deepThink (great) /Qwen3 & basic Perplexity ;)

      • What can DeepSeek do that ChatGPT can't?

        • +4

Report everything you ask it to the CCP.

  • +6

Damn, I can't pre cancel our turn off renew.
Time to set calendar invite for 12 months time

    • +17

I just turned off the automatic payments from the PayPal automatic payment settings, won't be able to re-bill! :)

    • +59

Weird, you can disable PayPal auto payments here: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/.

      • +22

Wow, i just went through and canceled 24 autopays lol, only have 6 now

        • +7

          Not a king.

        • +1

Same but I didn't see Perplexity there!

      • +5

Thanks Bro - just got rid of about 50 subs i was not using !!!

      • Thanks. Had a few didn't use anymore.

      • +3

This is a major plus of using PayPal if you don’t keep and use a debit card with near zero balance for such purchases. Almost makes you remember a time when businesses were forced to ask before taking more of your money by default. Good times!

      • I went ahea and cancelled payments on PayPal, and it cancelled only the auto-payments.

    • +14

I could pre-cancel by managing the sub here:
      https://www.perplexity.ai/account/details

Better way to do it this way in addition to disabling Paypal autopay.

      • +1

If I "Cancel subscription", it just cancels auto renew but not the current subscription?

    • It let me do it on web.
It shows trial enda and renew subsriptuon will cancel on Paypal also

      • Ah thank you. I was on mobile browser. Forced the desktop view and could do it

  • +5

works. but can't get the android app to show results. it's blank, but if you click the copy button you can export results. works perfectly fine on the web

    • +2

      Same

    • Same

    • Anyone found a fix for this? I've tried clearing the cache and reinstalling. You can use the copy icon and read the answer on the clipboard, but still nothing in the app. I'm on a Pixel 6Pro.

      • +1

I've had it before a few times, it comes and goes, also happens in the web browser.

Maybe it's just the quality of AI coding ;-)

        • All these vibe coding must stop. >_<

  • cheers op

    • Useless for voice for me

So just because it's "useless" for you, that's a reason to neg the deal huh?

        @SBOB, @gentlekoala5906,

The challenge is for people to fact-check cloudflare & perplexity claims…'the truth is out there' 😇

In the age of MIS-informaton, do you believe everything you read?

        • only if it's penned under the guidance of Saint Rupert

          • -1

@M00Cow: Superb, this was what my morning needed - thankyou @M00Cow

        • +2

Let me ask Grok for a fact-check…

      • +17

The response from perplexity was sus af. Moreover, Cloudflare is a well regarded entity. I would trust them over the ai mob.

        • +9

Cloudflare is a well regarded entity

Yep, CloudFlare do plenty of impressive things
Though they aren't without actions that some are finding less than 'great'
          Eg
          https://www.techpolicy.press/cloudflares-troubling-shift-fro…

I was posting perplexity answer as there's two "sides" to the ai argument in this example, especially when it's ai bot access as a user agent compared to ai bot access for scraping (which chatgpt and Gemini both get freed passes on because the respective Bing and Google web search crawler bots get much less scrutiny and you'd be nieve to think that data isnt being ingested for training)

        • +3

Cloudflare is a well regarded entity

          Lol, lmao even.

          • +2

@DonkSettingsEnjoyer: First of all, cool username. Even if he did body Flyquest.

I'm curious, as someone who works in networking (admittedly not with a focus on security but with routing architecture) they are very well regarded, at least within the two organisations I've worked in that work with them. What issues do you have with them?

      • +5

Calling scraping by another name does not make it not scraping. Even if its from a user request, it is still scraping the website.

If a website blocks scrapers, one should respect that instead of DDOSing it. It is their right as a website owner to decide how it is accessed, especially when accessing it with a scraper means costing them compute while bypassing their revenue streams. Scraping everyone smothers the open web.

    • +2

Stealth crawling is a necessary evil to make competition open to everyone.

Without it, only Elon and Sam Altman will have exclusivity deals with all the big websites and their AI will form a monopoly.

Also consider that there are many ways to steal data and once that data is stolen, it can be trained into an AI and in most scenarios, it becomes untraceable.

    • found the woke guy

  • +2

can you use this with the referral code to get 13 months?

  • +3

Any way to stack this with an existing subscription?

    • -1

it worked from my free account upgrading.

  • +11

An honest question, what can Perplexity do that ChatGPT Plus or Gemini Pro can't?

    • +2

It supports both, along with itself and you change between them mid conversation

      • -1

I think I can do that with OpenRouter.

        • Yeah with a limit

        • +2

And you pay for those premium models. Here it is free

          • @santomaharaj: So with Perplexity subscription, it gives you access to Gemini and GPT-5, through its own Web UI/app?

            • +1

@uk3000: That is correct. The premium models keeps getting added/replaced and i have also seen grok4 and sonnet as well

    • +4

My thoughts….I mean what exactly is it?

      • +19

I’m a bit Perplexed as well.

      • Load perplexity.ai in your browser and ask it something. If you open it in an inprivate window you get a fresh start every session. If it prompts you without answering your question, look for the [close] button.

Generally perplexity is a very good search engine, however like all of them, it can occasionally come up with rubbish answers. So, check your sources (small grey box with numbers at the end or statements and 'sources' link. Obviously, downgrade sources that may be trying to sell you something (like the Google phone add pushing particular sunglasses).

"You are already subscribed or have previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro."
I think this might be due to this deal?
    Definitely not currently subscribed.

    • +4

Tried another google account, got "You've previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro. This promotion is only valid for first-time subscribers." I guess cause my PayPal is the same one as I used for the above deal.

    • I got blocked from progressing due to that deal also. I just used one of my other email addresses and it worked fine.

      • Did you use a different PayPal? Maybe I subscribed using that same PayPal address

        • +1

I only have one PayPal account and it worked.

          • @KangaDrew: Strange. Oh well.

            • +3

@theguyrules: I had the same issue as you - new account/email address for Perplexity, but then failed on the PayPal screen "accept offer" due to having subscribed previously

              • +1

                @Benjamin7711: Yep me too.
Different perplexity email, same paypal and it failed.

    • +1

didn't work for me. I used the telecom deal and it might see it as previously subscribed. Bummer

      • Tried registering with a new/different email address?

  • Awesome thank you OP

  • +11

Rumor has it that Apple is going to acquire it, soon it will be free to all. This may just be to increase user numbers to ask more money from Apple

  • +1

Thank you Op have always wanted to try the pro versions but didn't want to pay, now I'll be able to properly decide whether it's worth it or not

  • +1

    Çan you stack it?

    • Haha, I Ç what you did there!

    • +9

Huh? I asked an AI what the joke was.

The addition of the cedilla (Ç) in the context of a "Perplexity Pro promotion" is a clever visual pun.
In French and other languages, the cedilla is a diacritical mark added to the letter 'c' (ç) to change its pronunciation from a hard "k" sound to a soft "s" sound. Words like façade and garçon are classic examples.
The humor lies in the fact that the word "can" with a cedilla (Çan) is pronounced just like "san," which is short for "sand." The promotion is for Perplexity Pro, and the joke is that you can "stack" multiple subscriptions to get a discount, but what you end up with is "Çan" (sand). "Sand" can't be "stacked," so the whole thing is a funny double-pun.

We are probably safe from AI taking over the world for a little longer.

      • Did not even mean to do this. I also text in French so when I was typing it automatically used the cedilla :). I will say it again: Can we stack this to the existing perplexity epic bargain of 12 months using Samsung store in the US?

        • Clearly this is an example of AI hallucination. No human would have gone down such a rabbit-hole of finding meaning in noise!

No wait! i can thing of a few. Numerologists, stock market chartists , tea-leaf readers, art and literature academics.

  • +1

Amazing value but I feel like the scam is you will forget to cancel in 12 months time and get an annual charge

To put this in context I paid $340 for an Annual Claude Pro subscription the other day.

Perplexity gives you multiple models to choose from.

This is an insanely good deal

    • +8

Cancel immediately in PayPal. Too easy. FFS.

      • +2

Thank you, I wasn't sure if I would lose the deal but appears to let you cancel

        https://imgur.com/a/ZmhNQFi

      • +1

If you cancel immediately will your Perplexity membership continue normally until the 12 months renewal date?

    • can always use a card with no funds as well

      • +3

It's PayPal, they will pull money from any other linked account.

        • +1

totally forgot about that haha, gonna turn off autorenew now. cheers

    • +2

You can literally cancel from your perplexity AI account the moment you sign up, and it doesn't cut your 12 month period short

  • +3

Why is Perplexity giving out these for free so easily?

    • +15

When something is too good to be true, you are the product. Obviously they are collecting your data

    • +7

Apart from data collection, they can show future earnings for sale, loans, VC funding, IPO etc

      • +5

Yes, VC's want to see users. It's a fight for users now, figure out how to make money out of them later.

Perplexity gave free Pro access to everyone in India two months back.

    • +7

Trying to establish market share. It's a crowded competitive market and they will just be forgotten without users recommending it.
If people do pay, or forget to unsubscribe, then that's nice revenue. But like all web startups they are happy to run at a loss on investor capital aiming to become huge and valuable.

And users provide training data for improvement. And the usual selling of your interests to advertising databases.

    • Burning VC money on growth so that more VCs invest. They don't have a path to profitability so its the only way forward until one magically appears.

  • +4

Used a new email address but existing PayPal account that has the email same as previously used for Perplexity Pro, it detects and gives me this error that I've previously subscribed.

Looks like we need to use a different PayPal account that is not connected with email address already used for Perplexity Pro
