This mystery Victorian pinot noir seems to be St Huberts The Stag Pinot Noir 2012

92pts James Halliday (drink to 2020), Vinomofo had the standard pinot noir a few weeks ago

Expert Reviews + $22.79 @ Dan Murphy's

update: wine might alternatively be Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir

being relatively uncommon compared with other reds on vinomofo, mystery pinot noirs generally sell out, so be quick to buy if interested :)

  • Description says it's a super well known brand. Not sure st Hubert's is

  • +1

Innocent Bystander is quite well known I believe, selling at $25 on their website also. Could be the one?
    http://www.innocentbystander.com.au/wines/innocentbystander/…

    A few other possibilities:

    https://dromanaestate.com.au/product/mornington-peninsula-es…

    http://www.stumpygully.com.au/shop/stumpy-gully-pinot-noir-2…

  • I can tell you it's very likely NOT the St Huberts as mentioned by the OP (but I can't say why I know that).

    • so it's the Innocent Bystander then?

      • Don't think so.

        • any other suggestion?

        • It might be the Robert Oatley Signature Mornington Peninsular Pinot Noir 2012. The producer is certainly well known. The tasting notes match the alcohol content and drinking window. The price on the website is close enough? Plus Vinomofo did do the 2010 Robert Oatley Mornington?

        • The producer is certainly well known.

sorry but not compared with others

  • Hmm, I'm going to take back my recommendations for/against the wines mentioned. If it's the one I think it is, the text of "You've had this at a restaurant and if you haven't, you've bought it from a bottle shop and if you've not purchased this before, you have certainly been given a bottle as a gift, because this is a well known wine and I know that you know this producer." proves me wrong. Because that has to mean Rosemount, Penfolds, Peter Lehmann, etc etc.

    • so why you knew that it's very likely not st huberts is wrong and it could now be that?

      • Possibly, yes. Though I keep going back to their description - they make it sound like Rosemount, Penfolds, etc etc. St Hubert's wouldn't match that description.

Innocent Bystander seems to be the closest fit. It's 13.5%ABV, about the right price, reviews as "almost like an Oz translation of France's beaujolais cru style" (old world), and has similar characteristics.

The only thing that makes me wonder is the 2012 Innocent Bystander got 93 points from James Halliday, so you'd think they would have said that if it is this wine.

    • That's a good point, usually they like to advertise the rating given, particularly if Halliday.

    • i agree with you.

given vinomofo hark from melbourne.. i hear innocent bystander/giant steps is a very popular place to go in the past few years. so awareness high. the french style is a good sign too.

other places have also been sold other vintages/styles of innocent bystander for sub $10..

i also considered de bortoli estate pinot but doesnt match and I have not seen it heavily discounted before..

  • Could it be De Bortoli?

  • Maybe t'gallant?

  • Shipping is $5 instead of $9 today only for anyone interested.

  • It might be the Tarrawarra Estate Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

    http://www.tarrawarra.com.au/pinot

  • Six Foot Six, just had it delivered this morning….have to say I have never ever heard of it before.

  • +1

Yep, it is Six Foot Six. Have Vinomofo heard of Truth in Advertising (even in black market deals?) Profoundly misleading

    • +1

      Agreed. A big step backwards.

  • The 2011 vintage of this Pinot was rated 91 points but Vinomofo have sent the 2012.

  • I hear on the grapevine (sorry couldn't resist that pun) that in the new Halliday book (Wine Companion 2014), this 2012 Pinot, Six Foot Six, gets 94 points.

I stress that this is UNCONFIRMED. Watch this space.

    • I have the 2014 Halliday Wine Companion and it's not mentioned in there, just a 91 and reasonably favourable review for the 2011 vintage. Maybe you mean the 2015 edition? Anyway I took a punt on this today with free shipping, as it is still available, see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150271.

      • Well, well, well. Re-advertised today with 94 points from Halliday! Same price :)

  • I have 2 cracking cases of cooking wine now! saying that I am not sure I want to put this flavoured lolly water into my food.
