    previously I had a 3rd gen i7 with a geforce 660m and a 768p screen
the games were not so good and at 1080p you would only really be happy with older games
i heard the 800m series is a massive improvement

this is 1080p and 765m so dont expect greatness with many games

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-765M.92907.0…

    Watchdogs 21fps
    Titanfall 35fps
    Ass Creed 4 18fps

Some games even quite poor at 768p

For $2000 you can buy a super pc and a ps4

thanks for the review of your old laptop and 1 component of this laptop….

other reviews available here from the end of 2013:

in summary, great performance but loud

      • the old laptop would be faster then this one at the res it ran
good laptop for source engine, ue3 and wc, lol etc but not so good for hc fps
basically i am just making people aware of the performance of the 765m
        the main component

      • Metro , 11 frames per second
        Great performance

I have this model, but with a 750gb hdd configuration.

I wouldn't say the graphics card would be the problem when playing graphics-demanding games, it's more the screen size.

At 1080p, it runs Dota 2 beautifully, on par with my R9270X gaming rig. On BF4, it can run it on medium details with decent fps, where as my gaming rig can do high-ultra.

True that the fan does get really loud, but I always game with headphones.

Don't expect this to be your primary gaming rig, but it makes a good portable option for those who like to play Dota, LoL, HoN, etc and enjoy lanning.

  • is the clevo one better in the other deal?

    • which deal?

      • I assume this one?

Main issue is the screen resolution, can't game on native with good performance, otherwise solid priced laptop.

        • The 860m is a beast of a card tho.

buy and ship from U.S. Its's much cheaper.

    • And then pay for shipping to/from the US, when these noise/heat monsters develop their associated issues….
No International warranty on this family of products.

      • +1

nope, you can get one year International warranty for Alienware.
and you can also change you service area from U.S to Australia on Dell website.

    • With Dell laptops I've had 1 from 2 fail. I want local warranty. Does Dell cover you internationally?

      • I have a friend that bought his Alienware from Malaysia and been getting warranty from local Dell but he bought his around 3 years back, not sure if they stopped international warranty.

      • +1

of course, dell offers one year basic international warranty. But if you want to purchase Complete Cover for your alienware, you have to change your service area from U.S to Australia on Dell official website. It's very simple.

For other people who are interested in getting nice and light gaming PC, Gigabyte and MSI have their new series out with 860m and 870m which is ultra slim and powerful for around the same price range. Not to mention MSI's steelseries keyboard. PUKE EM RAINBOW.

Gigabyte is cheaper while MSI is higher but both nicer and beefier. If you want nice portable gaming laptop I would suggest MSI. Ultra lightweight and great performance. You can checkout youtube unboxings to see how thin and light it is.

    • +1

      yes, I agreed.

I am planning to get the 17" MSI GT70 with i7-4800 GTX870M for around $1900.

MSI GE60 upgraded with another 8Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD is still cheaper, and its got a faster gfx card…

  • I saw the MSI GE60 on sale for $1500.
Great price for 4700 and GTx 860m.

Pity its now back to $1700

  • This laptop appears to have a slightly better CPU (i7-4710MQ) as well as a Blu-ray drive on the Dell website, only $250 off though, bringing the price to around $2,250.

Edit: This is actually the Alienware M14x, not the Alienware 14. The JB Hi-Fi website is misleading, it says M14x in store.
