Briefly covered in the below two deals but I thought a separate post might still be useful to some

DATA SHARING PLANS

With a My Plan Plus mobile phone plan you can get the most out of your mobile plan's data by sharing it with up to 5 mobile broadband devices, like your SIM-ready tablet, pocket Wi-Fi or USB modem.

There are no ongoing costs, just a one-off $5 set-up fee per device.

Excess data usage attracts $10 per GB, charged in 1GB blocks

Available on contract and month-to-month plans

but I use my Optus sim to tether from my phone for free

  • I don't understand, how is this different to simply enabling tethering in the phone's settings?

    • +5

      It's a moron tax

      • +9

        how is it different?

2+ tablets on the same account used by different people
not having to carry all devices on you

        • -3

No dude, it's not different. That's my point. You should buy two.

        • Oh rhetorical… Ok :)

    • +10

Telstra charges $10 per month for the same thing.

Main difference is that your phone battery don't last very long when tetherin, being able to access the net straight away without setting up tethering is also a plus.

You get additional SIM cards which use data from the same plan, so you don't have to have your phone on, set up tethering/hotspot and burn your phone's battery life to use data on your other device. For $5 once off, I'd say the convenience is definitely worth it - much better than paying for a separate data plan for your tablet.

Because Optus does not allow tethering with iPhones.
      You must have Android/Windows/Blackberry/Sybian phones.

  • +3

Because you don't have to have all devices on you at the same time. If you have a gig on your wife's plan and you've burned through your gig but she's only used 200mb then you use her data.

  • Somebody has already made a report on this 'deal', by the looks of it. Deal posted now three times in less than a fortnight, might have someone to do with it…

  • I think the 1 GB block is even worst! Imagine only using a few megs over but getting charged $10.

    • +1

As opposed to over usage charges that would result in $100's for being a couple of megs over? :P

      • +3

should be your hit your limit and thats it you decide if you wish to pay the extra $10 for more data

        • That's available too, they call it pre paid.

        • they should have it for all of there services but they wouldnt do that they make too much on people going over and simply takeing the extra money insted of letting the consumers decice whether they want to spend another $10 or more on extra data.

    • We should worry more about the session "block" of 10MB than this 1GB "block".

    Amazing, very good
Finally this Asian company is taking the lead off Australians' privacy, step by step

  • +1

Not sure if you can have 2 phones with common pool of data.. they should bring a family plan 4-5 people share a pool of credit and data - that will be a winner!

    • +1 from me for Family Plans. If this was available I would sign up straight away. Having two smart phones and two 4G tablets in the family can get costly especially when it comes to data, let alone trying to keep up with prepaid/post paid expiry, data and credit limits on different carriers with different usage tools.
