  • Samsung Ativ 9 seemed nice around that price range. $645

Pro: Thin and light, ultraportable, 13" screen
Con: Older model, not as good as the new Samsung Ativ 9 Plus

    • That's not the older model, that's the lower end Ativ Book 9 Lite. AMD processor and a plastic body, instead of Intel and aluminium.

14" Toshi Sat. with i5 4500u. Lightweight at 1.87KG. Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth 4.0, latest Haswell generation.

It's on the eBay site too, and with 20% discount coupon on Sunday it becomes $480, which is an absolute bargain for an i5 notebook.

  • thanks so how do I find dick smith on ebay?

    • By searching?…on eBay?

  • I'm gonna be on the lookout for this as well. Hope they don't jack up the price on Sunday…

That's the winner at the moment, especially if you can get in before the cashback ends.

    • Doesn't seem that cheap to me. I've got the same model minus the dedicated graphics (if you can even call 720M dedicated) for sale for $599. Also the toshiba linked by scrimshaw would be just as good, cheaper if you can get the discount on ebay.

      • Not after cashback

        • Urs is $678? whats the cashback $79? so $599 after cashback? Scrims is $599 already and expecting a 20% reduction on sunday thru ebay? Have I missed something or are we talking about a different one?

        • If the 20% off doesnt exclude laptops like it has in the past, sure.

But the HD4400 isnt very good of an onboard card, the 720M will play SOURCE games (TF2, dota2, Half life, etc) without drama.

It just depends how much he wants it as a general use laptop vs. for study only.

  • Ah, I'm going to look out for this on Sunday too: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-Satellite-14-L40-B00E-W8-…

Seems like it's the best you can get for the money.

  • I wonder how it compares with this one which will go on sale @ 8pm tomorrow. Really depends on how much more it will be discounted..

only real difference is 8gb ram vs 4gb

  • It would be nice if these had a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
