Crikey - that's a bit mental! Like you said.. worth buying just for the lens.

  • price error? its not listed anymore

  • Link not working

  • "Sorry, the product was not found."

    I'm betting it's a pricing error.

  • was adding cart and listed accessories to buy then gone! :(

  • +2

    hmmmmmm sumting fishy here………

  • +1

I'm about to click the confirmation button then… gone. Seriously, OZB is the great place to get free advertising.

It should be 12-50mm kit. There was an error.

    • Nope, i bought this kit there a couple of weeks ago for 1200 after cb. Price has come down again.

  • When I viewed it earlier, they'd added a message saying due to popular demand shipping would be delayed 24-48 hours whilst awaiting stock from Olympus. Maybe it was just a good deal and sold out quickly?

  • Dang it - hesitated, blinked and it was gone.

  • That was $200 cheaper than Ted's with $400 off. :\

    • +2

Ted's are the worst benchmark to use. I have seldom ever seen them offer any deal worth consideration.

  • As at 8:35am AWST it's back on the website

  • -1

Gone and sold out. That was no price error. Just a clever way of ditching the 2 year old and obsolete em5.

The em10 has everything the em5 has but is smaller. The em1 is the next step up.

Great bundle though with the lens makes em5 practically free after applying cashback.

    • What do you mean? it's still available though shipping is delayed by 3 to 4 days now.

    • +2

Not strictly true - EM5 has 5 axis stabilisation, weather proofing, and faster high speed shutter mode. But EM10 has some other features that the EM5 doesn't like the new processing engine, pop-up flash, inbuilt WiFi amongst other things.

      • You are correct. Just pointing out that very few people would choose the em5 today unless it would priced like in this deal. I'll give the em5 to my teenager who is an aspiring photographer and keep the lens for myself. Perfect buy for me.

    • em10 is doesnt have as good IBIS (3 axis vs 5). Is also isn't weather sealed.

edit: didnt notice the above reply before posting

    +2.5% for PayPal.
    +1.5% for visa.
    +17.50 shipping

    Still a good deal though.

    • +1

This morning it was 1% for Visa/Mastercard.

If your credit card supports BPay, then you can select BPay as the payment option (no surcharge), then go to your credit card website and enter the BPay details.

  • are they an approved retailer for the cashback? Can't find them in the drop down list on the cashback site?

    • +1

I think they are covered under "Other"

      T&C's only specify:

      4. To be eligible to claim the cash back, the Claimant must purchase, from an Australian or New Zealand registered business (a business holding a valid Australian or New Zealand Registered business number one or more of the following products during the Promotional Period…

      • Didn't see other, was in too much of a rush!..anyway purchased now so hope it comes through :) thanks for that!

      • Hmm, i put them under "camera house" as they call themselves gerry gibbs camera house (and camera warehouse confusingly)

        • So obviously you had no problems getting cashback from Olympus AU from this vendor?

        • Only put the CB in a week or 2 ago and it takes 6 weeks.

        • ok thanks.

        • +1

My EM1 and 12-40mm cashback was successfully paid a couple of weeks ago, purchased from here

        • What did you enter as the retailer?

        • +1

I just asked Gerry Gibbs and they said "Camera House" is correct.

        • I used Camera House. It's weird here in Perth because we have several "Camera House" stores with the same branding etc but they all appear to be independent of each other and with vastly different prices!

  • Holy crap! I mistook this for an EM1 and almost pressed the checkout button!

    • +1

If this was the EM1, this would be the deal of the century.

      • +2

This is still a good deal considering the lens alone cost that much, so it's a free camera essentially.

        • +3

You can think of this as:
-A $1200 rrp lens for at worst $400 after selling the em5
-A free EM5 after selling the lens.
-A $1200 lens for $900 and a free EM5. (which is an excellent camera btw)

  • For some reason this was only introduced in January 2014 to the market.

    • +1

This is the elite em5. It is a refresh of the original em5 that was out earlier.

  • GST and surcharge of $101 even with Bpay!

Still ordered one though too good to refuse

    • +1

Don't complain about GST since they don't keep it, I agree with the surcharge, but no surcharge on Bpay.

      • +1

My bad, the GST is included in the $1099, poor maths

    • Why is there gst? Is this imported/Grey market ?

    • What? Gst isn't extra on the $1100 pre cash back price.

  • +1

Awesome find OP. Thought it was too good to be true but since they relisted seems legit. Fantastic deal even though I already have the EM1. Can probably get around $600-650 for the camera(PM me) so the lens would probably cost $300.

    • Could you please PM me?

  • +2

For everyone who buys this, dont forget your cashback.

Link for Olympus cashback promotion: https://www.olympus.com.au/Learn-Explore/Promotions/Olympus-…

    • What serial number is used for cashback? is it the barcode on the box?

      • The serial number for the camera. It will be on the box and the body for the camera.

  • Anyone interested in the camera, PM me as I already have an E-M5 :)

  • Buying just for the Lens, if anyone wants the camera at a good price, PM ME

  • Riding on the other comments, PM me as well if you want the camera!

  • Likewise, PM me if you want the camera!
There will be hundreds of E-M5 on ebay and gumtree i bet!

  • Shiver me timbers!
This lens is what you want. Yes sir. Red-hot deal, OP. I don't know how these deals are found, but I always appreciate it. I (think) I'll be selling the camera also, though it be a fine thing with a fine sensor, I have way too many cameras and a general aversion to retro stylings.

PS. this deal is from yesterday (!). I'm still trying to work out how I missed this.
This has to rank somewhere in the OzBargain Hall Of Fame.

    • The new elite one doesn't look too retro. The silver old model though looks pretty crap IMO.

      • Yeah that two-tone scheme has run its course, IMO.

The designer(s) doing their Four Thirds DSLRs should be put back in, I think. Far more sensible grips in the past with less forced harsh edges. For my tastes there is still far too much retro at the expense of ergonomics in this unit. Compare & contrast the oldies http://asia.olympus-imaging.com/products/dslr/e620/

Of course not all things go backwards but I am not a fan of the basics here.

        • I have an e420 (almost the same as the 620) and now am EM5 and the EM5 is actually much nicer to hold. That isnt to say the old one was bad, i prefer it to most other entry level DSLRs but the strap attachment point get in the way and sticks into your right hand.

        • The older units were bigger for sure (being Four Thirds). I'll see when I get mine. I could be surprised and the grip might not be so bad. I am a big fan of the DMC-G5/DMC-G6 shape so that's closest to what I like as far as ergonomics goes. I have been drawn away from Olympus ever since they intro'd their Micro Four Thirds designs but maybe they'll surprise me when I actually pick one up..

        • Personally i prefer the more pistol grip shape of the e420/620 and the em5. I have pretty huge hands so the 'normal' dslr grip on anything other than the full size ones doesn't work. My fingernails hit the body of the front without any of the grip touching my palm if you get what i mean (the grip is too small to actually fit in my hand, pistol grip style where you fingers on the front point down works for more hand sizes.)
          Like this: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/6i2dlKvv170/0.jpg

You can get a grip for the em5 if you prefer the other style.

  • looks like the page is down again..
    <edit and its up again>

  • Sight I want to buy but I can't justify it to the Office of the Treasurer. I already have a D7000 with a f2.8 lens, S95 and a S120. Gave away my J1 to the Treasurer's sister.

Come on OzBargainers what story can I spin to justify.

    • You are going to sell the old kit for the new. (assuming you don't mind doing that)

    • +1

Because it is the most overlooked deal of the week on ozb.

    • Come on OzBargainers what story can I spin to justify.

Mental hardship will follow if you don't get the camera / lens. It could prove more expensive than making yourself happy. That will not be good for anyone. Once mental hardship sets in and the deal is gone, the only cure might be: http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-210101-18-35mm-Canon-APS-C/dp/B0… but it will be temporary and your status amongst your OzBargain peers would be tarnished forever. Nevermind the fact that there's virtually no risk picking this up and selling it if you don't like it. Which you will do of course. Unless of course…you know. Unless of course you fall in LOVE with the lens.

Thanks guys, after much deliberation I am gonna pass on this deal (as much as it pains me to do so). After weighing the pros and cons. There was one con that I couldn't overcome and that is selling my old kit. My D7000 with the lens that I have bought represents a significant investment and I have been very happy with the S95/S120 so far, so I am gonna leave this one to those that need it.

I really do love my Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC (OS) HSM lens and the D7000.

You guys enjoy the camera and lens and Duff5000 if you are the same duff on WP can't wait to see the photos you get out of it :P

      • There are a few duffs on there including a 'dufflover' iirc. I Have the same user name there as here so probably not the duff you are thinking.

  • Looking to buy the EM5 body off someone - PM me?

  • +2

Took the dive and just bought one. Why ozbargain why!

  • Looks like page is gone… :(

  • I want the lens, anyone want body?

  • For those who want to get rid of the EM5 body, PM me with your best price shipped.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the BPAY Details?
Edit: derp, didn't check my email.

  • +3

To the people that are keeping the body:

    http://www.dpreview.com/articles/9115179666/user-guide-getti…

Some changes you could/should make to the default setup.

  • The deal is there, just bit the bullet. Dammit ozbargain, keep making me spend money.

Anyone wants to buy a EM5 body? pm me.

    From the product page.
"Due to the Unprecendented Demand of this special shipping has been delayed by 5-7 days awaiting delivery of more units from Olympus Australia.
All Orders will be invoiced prior to the end of the financial year to accommodate the Cash Back Requirements"

    • Hmm they better get them shipped out no later than that:

"The Promoter will accept cash back claims received by the Claimant on or before 18th July 2014"

You cant complete the CB without the serial number. If you dont get he camera before the 18th then???

      • oh crap, didn't read the fine print. sigh.

        • Even at $1100 it is a bargain. Lets just hope they get them out in time. I ordered another yesterday. Sold the lens on the first one, now they have dropped the price ill sell the body on the next one and keep the lens.

      • +6

        Email from Gerry Gibbs:

"You will receive your camera well before the 18th and yes the invoice will be dated no later than the 30th June
ETA we estimate to you is the 4-7th July

        Regards

        Sales"

        • Thanks. This is a little reassuring. I was about to email them too.
          :o( -> :o)

    • I still can't see the deal…can you post a link?

  • Anybody don't want the lens??? (worth a shot)

    • I'll Sell you one for $898 :)

    • Hey I am looking to sell mine. Where you located?

  • +1

    Sold out!

Marquee banner : "Update!!!!! Due to unprecedented sales of the Olympus OMD E-M5 Only 12-50mm and twin lens Kit's available…………… Hurry…Limited stock…. This is a genuine sale…"

    • New banner:

Update!!!!! Due to unprecedented sales of the Olympus OMD E-M5 with 12-40 f2.8 SOLD OUT!!!! Only 12-50mm and twin lens Kit's available…………… Hurry…Limited stock…. This is a genuine sale…..

      very sad

  • Only wanted to upgrade my E-PM1 with Pana 20mm/1.7 combo to a better body but this deal was too good to pass. Fingers crossed for the $300 cashback and $100 TRS, for the total price of $816. OP FTW!

    • Only $200 cashback.

      • Right, my bad, $200 cashback and possibly $100 TRS.

        • I just upgraded from the pm1 as well. The new one is great. Much better at high iso and video. The IBIS is heaps better as well.

        • Yeah, I was thinking of upgrading to the E-PM2 since its form factor with the 20mm prime is fantastic. But with this E-M5 deal, I can keep the E-PM1 as a miniature backup camera for now and wait for the next PEN generation.

        • I was thinking the same. Then when I put the 2 side by side there is very little in it. The pen is only really smaller by not having the viewfinder hump. Can't see much point keeping the pen now personally.

        • How much could the old E-PM1 sell for? I still have the kit lens 14-42mm? in the box that I have barely used).

BTW, I saw people talk about how the E-M1 is not bigger than the E-M5, so I thought I would check the specs http://cameras.olympus.com/en-au/omd/em5/specifications and the E-M5 seems to be reasonably smaller and lighter (which may arguably be either good or bad).

  • Now all that's left is to get the rebate done on time.
    Hopefully Olympus/Gerry do good.

  • Gerry Gibbs just sent emails to those on a waiting list. Apparently, a few buyers didn't make payment, so there's a few stock left. I just got one!
