worst case scenario maybe we will get a refund and a voucher or free book

  • It's the book you're going to get.

    • +2

check the EAN listed for each item, it refers to the actual consoles

    • Why would a seller with high ratings and good feeback and a ton of items for sale would resort to this sort of tactics?

Surely it will kill off their account for alot of buyers giving negative feedback for being tricked.

It just doesn't make sense if its a book

    Ps4 at $500 is a better deal

Are there any coupons available to make it a bit cheaper?

omg it worked - i was able to order a xbox/ps4 console for ~$10! lol

  • Just noticed that they are selling PS4's for $10.50 as well - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Playstation-4-Console-GAME/141331…

    • 12m too late..

      • I'm sorry mate, didn't realize that school was more important than ozbargain

          my what? :)

  • +1

Don't sook when they send you a book about xBox One.

  • +6

surprisingly the ps4 on book world website is @ OUR PRICE $1.95

    http://www.bookworld.com.au/game/playstation-4-console/47604…

certainly looks like a pricing error.

    • +3

      Only fools pay $10.50!

    • and the XBox One is also $1.95…

      • the Nintento 2DS, PS4 is also 1.95

  • -3

    I've bought some. Worst case - I lose $50. Best case, I get 5 x consoles as gifts / re-sell.
I won't believe it's real til I see them arrive though!

  • +3

I do think the Bookworld pricing database has gone beserk. No way they will honour Xbox One and PS4 consoles for $10.50. You'd be an idiot to order on the just in case thing because you're wasting your time. No company will give you them for that price.

    • +3

I'm really not concerned if I have wasted 3 minutes of my life on that … :-)

  • +2

Well the seller account has really dug itself into a big giant hole.

Giving a refund = counts as defect for eBay.

Canceling order because of mistake = Counts as a defect for eBay.

Item not as describe = count (1,2,3 star rating) = counts as a defect for eBay

Negative/neatral rating = counts as a defect for eBay.

This account is screwed for the August update if no one receives the actual product as stated above and if its a book, there will be alot of "item not as describe" feedback just for this.

  • +1

Makes me wonder why would a bookstore have 239 Xbox One's in stock?. Isn't that overkill for a simple bookstore. I wonder if they were hacked.

  • +19

It really makes me wonder the intelligence level of people using this site. We have seen more than enough pricing errors to know that this is one. Yet 500 people still order and will all cry tears, then grab their torch and pitchforks when they don't get their $10.50 console. Cue the threats of ACCC and angry entitled emails.

Maybe deals should go through a basic moderation process before they get posted to avoid stuff like this?

    • -2

but the customer is always right?

    • +10

everyone should be ordering in the off chance they honor it, no harm in trying. But yeah, when they do cancel all the orders and give money back, everyone should accept it and move on, no hard feelings.

    • Maybe you should move along if you don't like the way ozbargainers operate…

That said, it's a pricing error and will end up with a 'sorry..' email.. I'm just in it for the possibility of a coupon which might be useful..

      • And what are you going to do when you get no coupon, accept that you didn't get it.

      • +9

Maybe you should move along if you don't like the way ozbargainers operate…

So no one should be able to post criticism, ever? If you don't like it, then leave? How juvenile. Why do you think that the prevailing opinion is above reproach? If I don't like the shitty way some OzBargainers operate, I'm going to say it.

I'm just in it for the possibility of a coupon which might be useful..

Why do you think you're entitled to cash in on a business's honest mistake? You know full well what this is, but you're just taking advantage. Vultures. More and more OzBargainers seem to have a complete lack of empathy in the face of the possibility of self-benefit.

        • -2

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.. But opinions are like a$$holes, especially around this place.. I don't have any empathy whatsoever when it comes to business decisions.. Why was there a pricing mistake in the first place..? Perhaps if they get their ebay account banned then maybe it might send a wake up call to improve their processes.. How did a PS4/XBone/DS/Vita end up on ebay & their webstore for $10? That's not my problem, nor do I care.. if some idiot is going to ship me a $10 ps4 then so be it..

That said, anyone who has been around ozbargain long enough will realise that pricing errors come and go, and those that are quick can benefit from such mistakes.. I'm not going to scream blah blah blah about when it doesn't arrive, nor do I expect any vouchers etc, but, such mistakes can be quite lucrative.. I don't expect you to understand any of this, nor do I care what you think.. so.. let's all just move along..

        • +5

Why was their a pricing mistake in the first place..?

Because shit happens. The business doesn't intend for these things to happen, that's they're called mistakes.

And you're right, that's not your problem at all; it doesn't matter one bit how or why it happened. It was obviously a mistake, and you're just plain exploiting it. Everything else is a cop-out.

        • But that one time when it isn't a mistake, when a company is doing some absolutely crazy promo, wouldn't you prefer to be part of it?

        • +2

Sure. But that obviously wasn't the case here. They usually make quite a big deal out of sale (that's what a promotion is for, after all), especially if they have a couple of hundred, recently-released consoles for ~$400 off. No business is going to quietly list a console on eBay for less than 2.5% of the price and make a heap of losses in the process. There was no way this was a legitimate sale - even the OP noted that in the description upon posting.

        • +1

There is tight-arse, and then there is a <censored> (rhymes with runt). There are a quite a few of the latter on OzB who seem to have sold their moral compass for a ha'penny.

I am in complete agreement with ProspectiveDarkness on this one. Profiting from the misery of others is not something laudable.

I have the really nasty feeling that quite a few OzBers from this thread will shaft the seller's account with negs when the item is not dispatched.

      • +1

Will they refund each order manually? Because if they cancel/refund, it counts as a defect. Too much defects = account pernamently banned..

eBay new August update and it will still count this month since it needs at least 3 months to calculate feedback.

So for the seller, unless they can get eBay to do it for them and negate any feedback for this item, then the seller is going to be boned either way if they don't honor it..

Yes eBay policies sucks because of reasons like this. but heck i bought some :)

      • Will do.

  • A solution that might make people happy is if they refund everyone except 3 people who will receive the product, I'd be happy with a chance to win one for $10

    • +7

Then all the others will feel entitled that they should have received one also. The world is full of sooking entitled feeling whingers.

  • +12

I think they should give the first order on the ebay page the Xbox One. I'm not bias that it happens to be me, but yeah

  • +3

they should just send everyone that ordered a photo of an xboxone or ps4.

  • +1

Imagine the seller's surprise when he realises theres an extra $6000 in his Paypal all within an hour

  • +4

defo is an error of some sort caused by an auto updating script somehow
their website is showing pricing errors on all four of the items that are wrongly priced,

I feel sorry for their support teams now who'll have to put up with a bunch of REAL abusive idiots very soon

    • they did a ps4, xbox 1, and 2ds for same price.. doubt they will make the same mistake 3 times in a day. Probably got hacked or someone at work doing a revenge on the company.

Refunding all orders will cost alot of defect (perhaps enough to get banned for being below standard)

  • +14

I like ozbargain for the ability to share actual bargains, not exploiting someone's careless error, hoping for compensation when they realise they stuffed up.

A while ago someone posted in the forums asking if this site facilitates people to become greedy and I had no idea why someone would ask such a question… until today.

    • +8

Greedy if people buy a lot but opportunistic to put in a single order and hope for the best. I don't expect to get anything, but the thought of getting a PS4 for $10.50 is quite exhilirating even though it's not going to happen.

Don't call people greedy because they put in an order and are hoping for the best, but realise that there's 99.999999999% chance that the money will be refunded and no fuss will be given.

      • -2

And you made extra work for the seller having to cancel your order and arrange a refund all for nothing and are you going to give the seller a nice positive feedback. Imagine if thousands of people did the same thing with the intention of hoping for the best to try to rip off the seller through a blatant error to make it a nightmare for the seller. Oh that's what happened. The seller will be there all day and night putting through cancellations all because opportunist and greedy people thought they'd try score a $10.50 game console at a huge loss for the seller.

        • +5

I have no sympathy whatsoever for companies that like to waste my time, and theirs.. How did it end up on both ebay and their webstore in the first place.. Perhaps this is a good way for them to sharpen up their own internal processes..

        • -1

if it wasnt us, someone else would have done the same thing, here most ppl put 1 order each, others might have bought 10-20 units each.
as soon as something like that hit FB its all over anyway

        • +4

Hey no reason to complain you could have saved your time and the sellers time from the beginning by not ordering a blatant pricing error. Blaiming a company for wasting your time when it was you who purposely wasted your own time is a cop-out. It's simple see a blatant pricing error, pass, move on, time saved.

        • +1

I didn't because i knew it was a blatant pricing error so i'd thought i'd save the seller some less issues and time. If every one did that then the seller wouldn't be boned from all these not received disputes. But this is ozbargain where people don't care about the issues they might be causing a seller through an accidental pricing error. But hey i do have morals.

        • +3

          Hahaha

        • +1

They didn't waste your time. People make a choice to exercise common sense and decide if it's an error or legit. Then, they make a second choice whether to try buy it knowing it's most likely an error.

        • Copy, click, paste, enter.

          Huge waste of time :/

        • There's a bit more to that to cancel an order.

        • Yeah, and there's a bit more to placing an order in the first place than just wanting to waste the sellers time.

        • +1

Then use common sense next time. Most people here realise that they have a very slim chance of actually getting it, so don't complain about wasting your time when it was completely up to you.

        • Common sense says it's 1 minute of my time to place an order and what ever happens, happens. It's also common sense to compliment the OP on a good find rather than lament him for posting an almost definite price error.

It's as ridiculous to tell people to not place an order because you will waste someones time as it is to expect to get the console or kick up a fuss if it doesn't arrive.

  • +7

So much moral posturing and strawmanning in one thread

Y-you'll all be complaining to ACCC!

You're wasting your time! No one ever honours price errors.

Well I have morals unlike you lot

  • +1

Maybe all the profit they're making from 3DSXL sales is offsetting these deals? :-p

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-3ds-Xl-Console-Blue-GAME…

  • +4

I couldn't care less either way, I bought a total of 40 assorted items and if I get them, great. If I don't, who cares. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It is however the end of the financial year and it is possible that tax writeoffs are needed by this company. Not to say it is real, but if it is, KUDOS to the OP, majorly.

The items were posted at two different prices on two different sites, both being officially owned by Bookworld. These items were listed amongst other items being listed at the same time on eBay and as an experienced eBay seller, I can tell you that it is next to impossible to list such a complex item WITH price listing by mistake. This process is a thorough process and is not a simple miss-press of a key.

To all the knockers who are whinging at people who took advantage of this offer: Just because people are showing some initiative by participating in what you condone as a mistake is not going to harm you in any way, so please keep your opinions to yourself. If it turns out to be an error, how does this affect your life? It doesn't, so seriously, troll somewhere else. This is how this site operates, if you don't agree with it, leave.

    • +10

      40? holy hell

  • +3

    imho —>

Bargains at crazy price did happen, taking-your-chance does not equal to being-greedy…taking more than your need is greedy. I'm sure you would have missed out many great bargains when you thought the crazy prices are all pricing errors. Unless you're the business owners, you would never know exactly their motives behind. Usually, bargains go quickly and you have to react fast.

People make mistakes and they must learn from the mistakes to prevent other far more serious problems in the future…that's in fact a good thing for a business to address their own operational issues.

Please do not criticize others for trying to take their chances and you never know, the shop owners or representatives might be among the OzBargain community.

Good luck to everyone who tried, whether you'll receive it or not at the end. The bottom line is that you should get your full refund if the business cannot fulfill the order and business owes the customer an apology.

  • you would think they would realise by now and have sent an email or refund. I notice they are leaving feedbacks for other buyers still.

    • +1

They'd have an automated feedback to buyer system.

  • +3

Refunded for a $1.95 vita 2000 from the official site

    Hi,

You were probably thinking a console for less than $20 was too good to be a true. Well we're sorry to say you were right. Earlier today a technical error occurred on the price of the consoles, meaning a ridiculously cheap price was displayed for a few hours. We are working with our platform provider to work out how this issue occurred but in the meantime we have cancelled your order and are in the process of providing you with a complete refund. This will be completed by end of day Monday.

We really appreciate that you placed an order though so would like to offer you a 20% discount code to use on any book or CD on the site. We've made this active until the end of the weekend so you have a few days to find something you would like. It's the biggest discount we offer and combined with our Citizen discounts you can get some pretty amazing savings. Hopefully this helps alleviate the fact that all your gaming Christmases haven't just come at once.

    • Would you please tell me the compensation code?
I want to buy something in the website.Thanks.

  • Wondering if it could be something the seller did intentionally for tax purpose? It's the very end of this Financial Year and they can claim a huge capital loss from this "mistake".

  • +2

Clearly and end of financial year sell off. Looking forward to my $10 Xbone, May eBay it for small profit.

    • In your dreams. Why would they sell some thing at like a $490 loss on each item. Not even Dick Smith is doing that.

      • -3

Dick Smith is owned by Woolworths, so if Dick Smith was going to do that, it would REALLY be Woolworths doing that. The loss would be exactly $384.20, plus shipping cost. If you are going to troll this post, at least do it with the correct facts under your belt.

        • +3

I thought Woolworths sold dick Smith…months and months ago

        • -1

Yes, it did, to Anchorage whose board directors are, by majority, ex and current woolworths executives. So, essentially a Woolworths shelf company.

        • Actually i was going by general retail sell price of about $500 for Xbox One + Forza bundle.

        • Woolworths sold Dick Smith a long time ago. Now who's the troll.

  • 239 sold holy shit hahahahaha

  • Just got my $1.95 refunded by Bookworld. He he, it was fun. Going to drink beer now. Goodnight all. Stay happy 8 )

  • Definitely a case of too good to be true

  • Well, I just received this email.

    Hi,
Earlier today a technical error occurred on the price of consoles on the Bookworld eBay site, meaning the incorrect price was displayed for a few hours. We are working with our platform provider to work out how this issue occurred but in the meantime we have cancelled your order and are in the process of providing you with a complete refund. This will be completed by end of day Monday. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our customer service team if you have any questions.
    Many thanks,
    The Bookworld Team

    • yep got the same thing, not even a voucher :(

      • Hmmm, I haven't received an email yet.

  • +3

Waiting for few angry buyers to start a new thread to boycott eBay :)

    • +1

not ebay, that would be stupid, just bookworld! lol

    • +1

You don't even need to be angry.. eBay already implemented a stupid system that will punish sellers that cancels transaction too many times. It favours the buyers way too much

  • +5

The PS4 listing for $10.90 ended but then was relisted at the same price!

    • +4

and u can still get xbox one for $10.50..lolol this error seems to be lasting many hours….

  • +7

And yet the seller re-lists the Xbox One at $10.50 again?. Incompetene much?.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xbox-One-Console-kinect-Titanfall…

Hey not to mention the PS4 at $10.50 but the PS3 is also $10.50

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Playstation-3-12gb-Console-GAME-P…

I'd accept mistake once in a day but twice is just a joke.

    • yeah seems a bit ridiculous to me. and to happen to so many items as well.

    • -1

Just bought 5 separate items, will be more than happy to leave 5 negs this time.

      • +3

only 1 neg will count to push down the feedback rating if from the same account.. Unless you give each negative 1 week apart from each other

        • +1

Didn't know that. Thought it was 1 transaction = 1 vote. Thanks for the heads up!

  • +1

    gogogogogo lol

  • +5

PS4 for 95 cents -_- how hard is it to fix the website/ebay site ? makes me think there is a reason for this.

    http://www.bookworld.com.au/game/playstation-4-console/47604…

    • According to that page they beat Amazon by 10%, obviously Amazon are also having a sale :P

EDIT: They also claim to have "Millions of products at the best price", well maybe not millions, but they are sure living up to their claims!
