Laptop for photoshop

HI guys,

I wanted to upgrade my laptop(5years) to something to work on photoshop.

Something with i7, hybrid drives, IPS screen, screen >=15inches, RAM >=8 GB.

I have heard a lot about ASUS but anything below $1500 would be preferable.

Every help is appreciated.

Thanks!

    Has all you want

    IPS display at 1080p
    240GB MSATA SSD
    15 inch matte display

    good storage options.

comes to about $1,147.00 when you add in the Corei7-4700MQ and Windows 8.

    • Thanks scrimshaw, but this doesnt have hybrid I believe?

You get Hybrid in the 3rd option.

☐ No Hard Disk [Blank Bracket]
        ☐ 750GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive [Add $149.00]
☐ 1000GB Seagate Solid State Hybrid Drive [Add $149.00]
        ☐ Intel 120GB 530 Series SSD 550/480 Mbs Read/Write [Add $179.00]
        ☐ Intel 180GB 530 Series SSD 550/480 Mbs Read/Write [Add $219.00]

But why do you want hybrid when it has a 240GB SSD? Hybrid drives are crap compared vs SSD.

The laptop is preconfigured with a 240GB MSATA and has a spare hard drive slot, which you can fill with an ordinary drive or another SSD (SSD's are very cheap nowadays, see Shopping Express deal).
Usually what most people would do is install Windows on the SSD as well as any programs and keep less-accessed files on the HDD.

As for hybrid, that is only for people whose laptops cannot have both SSD's and HDD's and would like the best of both worlds. It's basically a two-in-one purchase, but you don't need a half arsed option when you could just add in a real SSD.

        • scrimshaw, Apologies.

I meant I need a ssd and hdd slot available in the laptop.
Exactly how u described. Install windows in ssd and hdd to store.

My bad for mentioning this as hybrid.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Series-HD-L…

with 20% off on ebay on Sunday should come under $1100

    ebay 20%: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150374

I purchased the same laptop from Dell Website. I use Photoshop and Lightroom and they both work seamlessly.

    • I'm thinking I shall be purchasing this on Sunday.

    • Thanks cdhiren for your comment.

I was wondering if you have added an ssd to your rig? and screen solution is 1920x1080 but is it bright compared to say the ASUS models if you have had a chance to look at them.

      Cheers

Get yourself to JB-Hi - they have the Dell 7000, you can try the keyboard and check the screen i think it is alright.

  • You cannot go past a Macbook Pro for Photoshop,Lightroom and the Bridge. Every serious photographer that I know uses a Mac, just for the screen resolution. Also there is a good deal on Creative Cloud, where you can get Adobe Photoshop etc, for $9.99 a month, and all of the updates.

Would be hard to get a 15" Retina MacBook Pro for under $1.5k.

  • The best are

    Dell XPS 15
    Dell M3800

    • price point is more dearer than what I am looking for but Thanks for your input.

      • refurbished + ebay.com and you can get under $1500
        warranty is international

  • Build a desktop with a 27" screen. A laptop is always too limiting. If you did go laptop make sure its custom so you can upgrade at will, especially if something breaks unless you want to overpay Apple for the privilege.
