If kids in our Australian climate aren't getting enough vitamin D there's something wrong.

    • I think it's wearing sunscreen and also dependant on skin colour.

      • Its the UVB rays around midday that after 10 mins of exposure start producing vitamin D. Its easy to be deficient, especially in regards to optimal daily amounts compared to meagre RDA, 5000 to 10000+ IU versus 400 IU day for adults respectively.

    • It seems more than half the population is vitamin D deficient -

  • In AU we get ripped off for Vitamin D. Purchase gel tabs for adults from the US. Less than one tenth the price here.

      how about liquid form?

I spend a lot of time out in the sun, don't smother sunscreen all over, yet my vitamin D level was way down when checked a few years ago, went on Ostelin Vitamin D for 12 months, worked a treat, been off them for over 12 months now and have my vitamin D level continually checked. Turns out, early indication of vitamin D drop for me was one of the signs of arthritis setting in, bugger. Dietician said can get a once a year injection of vitamin D. My mum had a big drop in her vitamin D level a couple of years ago also, (in her 70s), she has now been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Vitamin D level should be one of the annual blood tests carried out.
