Johnnie Walker Gold Label $59.90 @ Dan Murphy's

210

Also available at 1st Choice for $0.10 more ($60) if that's easier to get.

Link to a previous deal that is now marked as expired for the $60 1st Choice offer.

Usual price is around $75 with some stores charging even more. Not a bad drop for $60, perhaps jv could find a coke special to go with it.

    is coke and johnnie gold slightly nouveau riche?

    pepsi next and johnnie red close enough for the avg. ozbb person?

  • Op.. I dont think there are any oz bargainers out there who need any more mixers… we all stockef up on the last blue label deal…

    Was just down at my local DM, they had a bottle of Johnny Blue out for tasting. $149 seems to be a regular price right now for the JW Blue.

    I think the only Johnny really worth the money is a JB Black, which you can regularly get for $40. It's great for a mixer, or neat over ice. Any more, and you are in single malt territory. There is a world of nice single malts between $45-100.

      Double black is way better for only a bit more.

        Eh, it's a different whisky altogether. I like the double black, but for a few dollars more I will go with a Tallisker. Today I picked up a bottle of Glen Moray 12 and Blantons Private Barrel Single Reserve for $90, due to a pricing error on the Blantons.

          that a single malt though? Isn't it?

        • @jv:

          Yes it is. I don't like many blends. JW XR, Gold, Black, double black, green are all nic enough, but only thr black is decent value for me.

          You have a funny definition of value, the double black is only 96 cents more and way better than the black…

          @jv:

          They show a difference of $5 for me (Brisbane). Still prefer double over black for $5 more.

          @jv:

          Better is subjective. I enjoy the black more than the double black. I only buy the black when it is $40, I don't want to pay more than that for a blend.

    I concur.. dbl black is definitely worth the extra few $.. would be buying this but just went to 1st Choice and got a bottle of Lagavulin 16 y.o. for $85.. :P

    • Lagavulin could very well be the best thing $85 can buy.

      • Lagavulin is a nice drop. I prefer the Ardbeg 10 for a standard Islay. There's quite a few nice single malts in the $90 and under bracket, it really makes it hard for me to justify buying anything by JW, particularly given it takes me quite a while to get through a bottle.
