  • What's a multicultural round?

    • +122

It's where they discriminate against everyone born in Australia.

      • +1

        Good call.

        • +15

Not saying it's a bad thing, but it is discrimination (singling out based on a difference). I don't see anyone harmed in this, but discrimination is discrimination. Apologies if you feel I'm just focusing on the symantics of it.

        • +10

@jonathonsunshine: I think you have a valid point in your post, but you're only seeing one side of the argument.

To call them human garbage is quite extreme.

        • +13

Chill out dude. Can't you see the irony of it? A multicultural round promoted in a way that by it's very nature discriminates against a cultural demographic of society. I say, free tickets for EVERYONE!

        • +9

It's obviously just a token aimed at getting some people who wouldn't normally go to Australian football to have a look. Standard marketing fare similar to incentives to new customers, nothing to do with "discrimination". The poster who talked about irony should acquaint him/herself with what the multicultural round is actually about.

        • @sasangeleus: Which makes you and your polyvinyl mate what precisely?

        • +2

          @jonathonsunshine:
I'm putting my username to the neg vote, you aggressive muppet. May you receive all the bad karma you deserve. That's why you don't "get all the breaks".

        • @Utopian:
Likewise, my name's on here for all to see… But he did have a valid point in his last comment about being down voted into non existence, hence the reason I actually up voted that comment!!! ;)

        • @jonathonsunshine: I neg'd you, so what? You act and sound like a dick and you know what they say… If it acts like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck.

        • @jonathonsunshine:

I wonder how much of you human garbage would down vote me if negative votes were public.

I'll neg you for being an obnoxious keyboard warrior. I wonder how you'd go on your high horse in front of someone rather than hanging anonymously off the end of a keyboard.

        • @jonathonsunshine: Negged. I'd happily neg you in person too :)

        • +1

          @jonathonsunshine:

Proudly repping my neg against you & your "white guilt". I pity you.

      • Exactly, and this is why people are becoming weary of "multiculturalism"

        • +2

Spot on! I work in human services, so unfortunately I get to see this kind of inequitable PC hypocrisy almost daily…"multiculturalism" is rapidly becoming the Aussie version of Affirmative Action! :/

Don't expect too much actual moderation on the topic around here either, I voiced an issue recently & not only did mods do a half-arsed job by only removing 1/2 identical offensive comments reported, they haven't even had the decency to respond to either of my attempts to contact them via TWAM…talk about a head in the sand approach!

      • -2

In contrast to so much discrimination against the foreign like me that come here, work hard and help build this country.

        • +13

Or the Aussie born non-white that cops racism and still doesn't get free tickets!

        • @Dominic:
Is that related to the reason for this promotion?

        • +2

          What are you building?

  • +2

how could they check where you are born??

  • +31

Might be a sting, like one of those American "you won a boat" scams by the FBI to arrest people with warrants. This govco dont like dem immigants…

    • +8

Cool, so it comes with free accommodation, meals, healthcare, broadband and dentistry.

      • +6

        You forgot the free fences.

      • +1

Did you know that the immigration detention center in villawood nsw charges you $135 for everyday you spent in there?

        • +2

So when you check in, a valid credit card must presented? Or the government calls your overseas family for a lump sum payment?

        • +1

@AllWins: Yeah, I am also curious how this could work.

        • @AllWins:when you check in you have to sign a document promising to pay the fee. If you don't it'll become a commonwealth debt and you're not able to be granted a new visa until the debt is paid off.

      • Really? Prison sounds awesome!
Wonder why more people don't visit.

        • +4

They do! In fact there's shiploads of people flocking to it!!!

  • I got the URL wrong but I can't change it. Admin or Mod please help.

    • Put the link here then if an admin sees it they can change it for you.

Edit: See you've already posted it.

  • Offer not available. Access denied.

    • I need to change the URL but OZBargain won't let me because its a different domain. :(

      • +1

        Just post the URL here
Then report the listing under OTHER to contact mod with correct URL

        • Done. Thanks for the pointer.

  • +7

EVERYONE .. please use this URL instead … http://www.afl.to/myaflpassport

  • +32

    i was born in tassie…that's overseas? ;)

    • +5

You don't have your own team so it might as well be.

    • +1

That was meant for a joke…i'm not actually from tassie but born in another country

      • +6

        Van Diemens Land?

  • +1

Did a dummy run, works for me. Shame no tickets available in Perth.

    • -1

      **** off we're full?

  • +1

How do they know you were born in Australia or not?

    • +1

      The stamp.

    • +3

There is an entitlement test at the front gate.

    • because you will hold an Australian passport? lol or under place of birth, it'd have Australia

    • IP filters at the turnstiles.

      there is a workaround: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/151402

  • +3

    Here is the ticket
    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/92970/23888/tikk.jpg
there is really no pointer that states to check if you're born o/s, nor do the lazy arses at the portress check anything

    • interesting name and barcode!

  • +21

If you were to offer free tickets to anyone who wasn't born overseas you would be taken to the Anti-Discrimination Commission. Not that it really matters though, they can't get anyone outside of Victoria interested in AFL anyway whether they are born in Australia or not.

    • +3

they can't get anyone outside of Victoria interested in AFL anyway

Apart from Tas, SA, WA, Qld, NT, NSW, and the ACT I think you're right.

      • -7

Tas, SA, WA, Qld, NT, NSW, and the ACT don't care about AFL

        • +1

Did you ask them all or just pull that out of your er hat?

        • +1

I know when I grew up in Tassie back in the 70's and 80's AFL (or VFL back then) was basically the only football code anyone in my circle of friends was interested in. No doubt its changed a bit since then but I cant imagine its dropped off the radar.

        • +4

Pretty sure everyone in SA, WA, NT & Tas are majority AFL. Crowd and membership numbers for rugby is a joke.

        • @Fincky:
          There's a reason for that!!!
Even outside of the towns with Rugby teams in QLD, AFL is very popular!

    • This should be taken to the High Court.

  • +1

OK got 4 free tickets :)

    • +3

I'm going to the footy baby! Wahoooo!

  • +2

YAY it worked I just got myself 2 tickets to port v Melbourne match .. thanks op…

    • +1

      See you there!

    • +1

I was about to say for your sake I hope your a Port fan… But I can now see that you're from Adelaide!!!

  • -1

A few questions, easy enough to fudge. Got some in my GF's name, about to get some tickets for my French 4th cousin, Race'cisse leur.

  • A friend of mine from Canadia's going: Gillon le Toole.

    • +3

      Is that somewhere near Candida?

      • +1

I don't know, but the questionnaire accepted 'Canadia' as my country of birth. LOL

  • +4

We should send this offer to a certain Brazilian soccer player - suggesting he change codes..

  • +1

Doesn't work for the Lions match for some reason. Anyone else with the same problem?

Edit: works with IE, not with Chrome…

  • Nothing in NSW :( No discount Macca's and now no free footy. It's time to move !

  • I can't buy 4 tickets at the same time, ended up having to buy them separately. I now have 4 tickets but all scatter around the Gabba … completely useless for me then!

  • promo code invalid? Tried IE too.

    • same here.

  • Good deal. Got 4 tickets. I'm a yank with a passport card so no worries if they check me.

  • +1

Got 4 tickets for the GWS GIANTS v Geelong game. Now will start to read about the game rules.

    • +1

      I can predict the future.
      The Geelong Cats will win.

  • -1

All they are missing is the free Boost Juice. More garbage marketing.

  • +23

It's going to look funny when they cross to the "multicultural" section of the crowd during the tv broadcast and it is all a bunch of Caucasian people wearing Ozbargain, Kinchrome and NewBalance shirts.

    • It's a bit cold to be wearing/displaying those shirts!

I wonder if they'll be checking our passports at the gate? (I don't even have one)

      • +8

No need to be a foreign passport holder, just born overseas. Eg. Tony Abbott or Julia Gillard.

      • Weather is lovely up here in Qld. Nights are a tad cool, but the days have been spectacular.

    • OzBargain is a culture of sorts.

      • +3

I don't think the majority of Ozbargain are Caucasian lol

I am an immigrant myself but these type of things really annoy me. I understand what they're trying to encourage a wider audience which is great but still….
Controversial comment Reminds me a lot of scholarships engineering for women only

        *oops,replied to the wrong comment

        • +7

          scholarship that discriminate against men

    • +1

also ecko united hoodies from thehut.co.uk

  • Unfortunately this offer is not available. To view all events for sale, click on the link below.

    Update: working again

  • +1

Got 4 free tiks to blues v north.. thanks OP :)

  • I can't see them booting people for not being born overseas. They do make you declare you were, but I can't see them actively practicing the discrimination.

  • +2

Got 4 tickets to Port v Melbourne Only option in Adelaide.

    Thx OP

  • Tickets says "entry subject to capacity". Is there a risk of not getting in?
